Missing the Magic Series: Wishes

Wishes

May 11, 2017 was the last time that Wishes was seen at the Magic Kingdom park at Walt Disney World. Removed so that the Happily Ever After Fireworks show could be presented, the closing of Wishes was hard for many Disney fans to take. In the last week or so, I’ve been hit with the nostalgia bug while walking our dog River, and we’ve been listening to our music for Wishes in the morning. That reminiscing is what led to the idea of writing about the things that we are missing at Walt Disney World. We’re calling this series “Missing the Magic”.

For the longest time, I was not a fan of fireworks of any sort. Wishes, Illuminations, your local 4th of July fireworks, the fireworks at the State Fair in Raleigh, NC, I wasn’t having it for any of them. But then, one day my wife Cindy suggested that Sophie and I get earplugs for when the fireworks were going on, and a love for the fireworks was born.

I have a lot of great memories of Wishes from over the years. Sadly, though, my fireworks picture taking skills are limited, so I have very few good pictures. One of my favorite experiences, though was the day that we saw and heard Wishes while having dinner at Cinderella’s Royal Table!

Are you missing Wishes today? If you are, have a look at the Magic Kingdom 40th Anniversary Wishes, courtesy of YouTube and the fine folks over at WDWMagic!

What are you missing from Walt Disney World? Let me know in the comments below, or reach out to me our social media sites to let me know. Lastly, if all you are missing is being at Walt Disney World, shoot me an email and let’s talk about how we can make that wish come true for you and your family! Friday Flashback – The Skyway

The Skyway - a bygone attraction from a bygone age at Disney...

The Skyway – a bygone attraction from a bygone age at Disney…

You know, to be honest with you all — and with myself, I might add — the early visits to Walt Disney World when I was a kid all those years ago are somewhat a fuzzy memory to me.  For example, in my first trip, when I was 11 years old, I remember the feelings I experienced more than the attractions I rode.  However, there is something from those early visits that I really do remember quite well, and today, I’m going to talk about it in Friday Flashback.  That attraction is the old Skyway attraction.

For those that are younger than I and don’t know what the Skyway was, I’ll tell you.  The Skyway was a special one-way transportation attraction that would take you from Fantasyland to Tomorrowland — or from Tomorrowland to Fantasyland.  When you rode to either destination, you couldn’t continue back without getting back in line for a second trip.  The Skyway was a suspended gondola type ride, where you were lifted into the air and suspended from a steel cable as your car was taken from one part of the Magic Kingdom to another.  It was a whole level of freedom that you just didn’t get any other way, because you were able to look at the Magic Kingdom from a whole different dimension than you would normally get, and I LOVED the Skyway.

At it’s least, the Skyway was a nice, relaxing way to journey to another part of the park without tiring your feet any more than they already were.  At it’s best, the Skyway was a way of seeing parts of the Magic Kingdom you never see anymore — a way to be above it all and reflect on the beauty of the park, how blessed you are to be able to experience it — and if you are a kid like I was — perhaps a way to tell your parents or grandparents thanks for taking you there!

The Skyway was an original opening day attraction at the Magic Kingdom, and had identical rides at Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland.  The Magic Kingdom version of the Skyway attraction lasted the longest, being open until November 5, 1999 — over 28 years!  Now, for your enjoyment, here’s a YouTube video of the attraction for you to enjoy!

Disney Music on #YouTube – Frozen

Frozen
Over the years, Disney movies have brought out some incredible Disney Music to the public — to the point that in many cases the Disney Music may be, in some cases, be more of a draw than the movie! In this short series, I’ve decided to take a look at the Disney Music that you can find on YouTube — and share some of it with you as embedded YouTube videos! Today, since this movie has captivated most of us, I’m starting with the Disney Movie Frozen. Enjoy!

Do You Want to Build a Snowman?

As I wrote about in my post about Anna, the words “Do you want to build a snowman?” certainly have multiple connotations, from fun, to remembering when they played together, to wanting to turn back time so their parents are back in their lives.  Personally, I think that this song is my favorite in the whole soundtrack, and I truly enjoy seeing it online.

Let It Go

Let It Go is Elsa’s song — her song about how she embraces her magic and makes it her own!  I love so much about this song — the music, of course.  Then there is how Elsa turns her circumstances around and embraces her magic.  Lastly, I love the hope she has when she sings this song.  I hope you enjoy it also!

For good measure, here is Demi Lovato’s music video of the song Let It Go:

In  Summer

Olaf, the incredibly warmhearted snowman, in many ways stole the show.  He was comic relief when things were a little too heavy in the movie, but he also had one of the best lines of the whole movie, when he said “Some people are worth melting for.”  However, he also had his own show tune number, when he sung about what it would be like for him In Summer:

This is just a sampling of the incredible music that you can find in the blockbuster hit Frozen.  Tell me, which is your favorite song from the movie?  Please let me know in the comments, and thanks!

Anxiety

Prayers for the Week – Anxiety

Anxiety

Welcome to this week’s Prayers for the Week post!  Over the past week, I’ve seen examples of people being scared and angry, and I think that it best that I let our Lord and Savior Jesus tell us about anxiety in His own words:

22And he said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. 23For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. 24Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! 25And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? 26If then you are not able to do as small a thing as that, why are you anxious about the rest? 27Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 28But if God so clothes the grass, which is alive in the field today, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! 29And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be worried. 30For all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31Instead, seek hiskingdom, and these things will be added to you. 32“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. 33Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. 34For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

Prayer Requests and Praises…

  • Please pray for my friends Monica and Doug, and their daughter Maddie. Monica and Doug have two separate business trips this week, so will both be away from home, and Maddie will be staying with friends and family for a couple of nights. Please pray for safe journeys, happy reunions, and no anxiety or stress for Maddie. Thanks everyone!
  • My friend Alan has a prayer request. Here is what he wrote on Facebook:Heading to Florida. Mom is in intensive care and on a ventilator.
Should arrive in Jupiter, FL by late afternoon tomorrow.
Thanks in advance for prayers and thoughts. Please pray for his Mom’s health, for safe journeys for him, for Peace and Strength for all of them. Thanks everyone!
  • Praise and congratulations are in order for my friend Pete, who recently got married to his wife Mimi! Congratulations to the two of them, please pray for them that they would have a lifetime of great memories together!
  • My friend Stephan wrote a prayer request on Facebook.  Here is what he wrote:

Hey friends please pray for our friend Rob Frolk. He had a heart attack and is at Wake Med tonight. They put a stint in today and he’s doing well. Many of you know him as he’s blessed many.

Now, please join us in praying the prayer that Jesus taught His Disciples to pray:

Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed by thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done,
On earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory forever and ever.
