Wordless Wednesday – Christmas is Approaching

The Downtown Disney store Days of Christmas is a great place to celebrate year round!

The Downtown Disney store Days of Christmas is a great place to celebrate year round!

Hello everyone, and welcome to the Wordless Wednesday post for this week!  As always, special thanks goes out to my friend Deb from Focused on the Magic, who is responsible for hosting this series each week.  Thanks Deb!  To be honest, I’m not even sure what the theme is this week, but I’ve decided to go off the board — at least, I think I am — and share some Christmas photos that I took at the Days of Christmas store in Downtown Disney a few years back.  I hope you enjoy them!  The way I see it, you can go to that store and enjoy the feeling of Christmas year round!  Now, enough talk, please enjoy the photos!

This photo shows some of the incredible displays they have in the store!

Sterling Holloway Visits Andy of Mayberry

Disney-influences-Television

While watching yet another great old TV show, this time The Andy Griffith Show, I was delighted to see one of my favorite voice actors from the Disney animated films. His name should be known to all but it is undeniably his voice that is instantly recognizable, especially if you like Winnie the Pooh.

If you’re like me, then you’ll get a kick out of seeing this versatile man in a non-Disney role:

Sterling Holloway 1

Andy meets… Bert Miller?

Sterling Holloway 2

Naw, it’s Sterling Holloway!

I also have the entire series of The Andy Griffith Show (are you detecting a pattern here?) and found this cameo in the season two episode entitled The Merchant of Mayberry (03-05-62). But I also found something else of interest. Take a look at the grocery store window behind the boys: A 10 lb bag of potatoes for only… 29 cents! Must be 1962.

Sterling Holloway 3

A face only millions of Disney fans could love! And do!

Before I go, take one more look into 1962 and note the price of 5 lbs of bacon: just 99 cents! Mmmmmm… bacon.

So which character voiced by Sterling Holloway is your favorite?

  • Winnie the Pooh
  • Kaa (from The Jungle Book)
  • The Cheshire Cat
  • or another?

As always, please share your answer with everyone in the comments below!

Disney Dining Review: The Crystal Palace!

The Crystal Palace is a character dining location located over at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World!

As the sign indicates, The Crystal Palace is “A Buffet With Character” — in this case, Winnie the Pooh and all his friends!  Piglet, Tigger, and Eeyore (as well as Pooh) all come by to see you, and you can get your picture taken with them, get autographs, and even march in the parade with them!

Sophie has been drawn to the Crystal Palace since her early trips.  This restaurant is more often than not a mainstay in our Disney Dining planning.  We didn’t eat there on our last major trip, but something tells me we will eat there in June when we are on our vacation with our great friends!

While the Crystal Palace is just your standard buffet, there’s something about the restaurant that keeps drawing us back time and time again.  For starters, it is one of the few places to meet and get pictures with the gang from the Hundred Acre Woods.  Another thing that it’s got going for it is the incredible charm of the restaurant.  Take a look at some of these pictures and tell me what you think!

I think Pooh is always going to be Sophie’s favorite — the look says it all!

These pictures are from 2007, the first year that we stayed on property at Disney World.  We have also eaten there in 2008, 2009, and 2010 before taking a break in 2011.  For us, we love the Crystal Palace for so many more reasons than just the food.  For me, the beauty of the Crystal Palace is how we all are able to just spend a little time with our favorite childhood friends, and share a hug like the ones that Sophie has done in these pictures.  If you have never eaten at the Crystal Palace, I highly recommend that you give it a try!
