Disney In Pictures Theme: Thankful Things!

Hello everyone, thanks for stopping by!  It’s Thanksgiving week here in the United States, I hope you all have a wonderful, safe holiday, and remember all of the things that you are thankful for!  I am thankful for (among other things) all of you stopping by and visiting on a daily basis!  On that thought, our Disney In Pictures theme for this week is “Thankful Things!”  Much like we did for Veterans Day, this theme is opened up to all of you for whatever you are thankful for!  If it’s at Disney related, that’s just a bonus, but it doesn’t have to be!

  1. Dig through your photos, and find a few pictures that epitomize what you are thankful for.
  2. Email them to me at mickey@mydreamsofdisney.com, and include your name, why the picture is special to you, and your blog if you have one!
  3. Then, check back on Sunday to see your photos proudly displayed!

As a side note, I’ll have plenty of things to talk about this week, including a special Thanksgiving post for Thursday, so I hope you’ll stick around in between turkey eating and Christmas shopping to see what great things we have for you!  Who knows, you may even find a thing or two here on the site that you may want to turn into Christmas presents for this year!

Lastly, on Friday I’ll be part of a special Black Friday Contest, so look for more details about that this week as well!  The host is my friend Jonathan from Mousekejournals and Mouse and Memos, if you haven’t seen those sites yet, go check them out!  They are well designed and full of great Disney information!

Once again, I hope you all have a wonderful, safe Thanksgiving!  Send in those photos, and thanks for stopping by!

Saluting our Veterans on Veterans Day!

Far too often, our men and women in service to our country are forgotten while they put themselves in harms way to keep America safe from the likes of terrorists and other people that would do us harm.  Today is Veterans Day, and here at My Dreams of Disney, we remember that so many people have given of themselves — and sometimes paid the ultimate price — so that the rest of us could enjoy the freedoms that our great country has provided to us.  So for today, we are remembering all of you — the men and women of our armed forces, and their parents, brothers, sisters, sons, and daughters that have paid such a heavy price in service to our country. Sit back, enjoy the pictures, and remember the sacrifice that our troops — and their families — give of themselves day in and day out, to keep their loved ones and all of us safe in America. Veterans Day at Disney In Pictures!

Hello everyone, it is Veterans Day at Disney In Pictures!  At least, it will be on Sunday, November 11, 2012!  As you all know, Disney in Pictures is my way of saying thank you to each and every one of you that take the time to stop by and visit.  Here’s how it works:

  1. The theme this week is Veterans Day.  Please check your photos and send your favorite photos of Veterans — either at Disney or not — and email them to me!  My email address is mickey@mydreamsofdisney.com.
  2. In the email, attach your photos, and include your name, why the picture is special to you, and the name of your blog if you have one.
  3. Then, on Sunday, November 11, 2012, come back to the site to see your pictures in my post as we proudly say thank you to each and every one of the Veterans of our armed forces!

Since we weren’t able to serve in the military, Cindy & I have always done my best to make sure that I reached out to the members of our armed services, no matter where I saw them, and thanked them for their service.  To top it off, it always touches me to see Sophie stop as we are walking and thank a Veteran.  We are proud when she does that!

What better way to thank our troops then to share the photos that you send in to us of your loved ones for them to look at when they are away, or even see if they are home now?  I’ll spread out some pictures as well that tie into this week’s post — maybe even include some from Disney!

I hope that you all take the time to contribute this week!  Let’s do our troops proud!  Thanks!

The influence of Walt Disney!

Disney, Beauty, Beast, Russian, My Dreams of Disney

Special thanks to my friend Bonnie for sharing this with me!

The influence of Walt Disney has been seen all across the world, as you all know.  Disneyland opened in 1955.  The Magic Kingdom followed in 1971.  There are Disney theme parks in Paris, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and soon even Shanghai!  Then there is all of the Disney Cruise Line ports of call, including even Galveston, Texas, where my friend Brenda is enjoying a cruise right now!

All of us that are Disney fans know that the influence of Walt has been phenomenal, and the Disney name is one that is known across the globe.  In fact, Mickey Mouse has even been seen in space!

So I shouldn’t have been surprised when my friend Bonnie at work showed me a book she found when she was studying abroad.  I looked at it, and I was instantly fascinated!  It was Beauty and the Beast as we all know and love — but the typeface was in Cyrillic, the official language of Russia!

I immediately stopped what I was doing and asked if I could look at it.  The artwork is incredible; it may be that there is even more artwork in the Russian version of the book then there is in the American version!

At this point in my life, I shouldn’t really be surprised at the worldwide influence that Walt Disney has had on all of us.  Greatness such as his only comes once in a lifetime I think, and once it is exposed for part of us to experience, it is only natural that it be shared across the globe.

My friend Bonnie also purchased the Russian version of The Jungle Book, and she is going to let me take a look at it also!  As she explained it, in Russia, when you see something you realize is special, you have to get it right then because the market in Russia is so vastly different from that in the United States.  There won’t be 20 or 30 copies of something when you are looking to purchase — the one you see is likely the only one they have, so jump at the chance!  As for this book, the price tag indicated it was either 9500 Rubles, or maybe it is 95.00 Rubles, so either about $300 or $3.  I’ll get clarification from Bonnie tomorrow!  Still, at either price, a piece of Disney that you don’t see very often!

I hope you have enjoyed this journey into the exploration of how broad an influence Walt Disney has had on all of the world!  Thanks for stopping by!

HostelWorld Language

{Editor’s Note: We interrupt our regularly scheduled Disney site to talk about a travel service that you may find interesting or helpful.  My Dreams of Disney has never used this service, so your mileage may vary, however, if you are looking for travel booking options in Europe or other areas of the world, this may prove to be useful to you.}

Are you a young college age student who is looking to travel for a while between semesters?  Or, is your conference budget small where you work, and you don’t have as much of a room budget as you would like?  If either of these questions apply to you, then HostelWorld Language is a site that you might want to check out before your next travel date!

I have never used HostelWorld Language before, but after exploring the site for a while, it kind of reminds me of many of the travel websites you can find here in the States.  The site is tailored to allow you to search many different countries for Hostels, Bed & Breakfasts, Hotels, Apartments, and even Campsites to help you find the right lodging for your needs and budget!

When I did a quick search for lodging in May, 2013, in Rome, Italy, I discovered that I could stay in a private room for three nights for two people from as low as $15.83 per night!  If I was more adventurous it might be something I considered!

If you are looking for an “Off the beaten trail” sort of experience in your travel, and you are going overseas, you might want to take a look at what HostelWorld Language has to offer!  Good luck!

{Editor’s Note: My Dreams of Disney has never used HostelWorld Language, and is not endorsing the service, just offering it up as an option for you if it fits your travel needs.}
