Kids Corner Preview

{Editor’s Note: My daughter Sophie joins us today with a preview of an idea that’s been bouncing around for a while — the Kids Corner.  Here’s her preview, I hope you enjoy! ~ Mike}

Hey Kids! I’m assuming you haven’t seen the “Kid’s Corner” yet. So here’s the scoop. My name is Sophie. My Dad, Mike, runs the blog. He’s also a travel agent, so if your ‘rents want to plan a WDW trip, he’s the guy to call. ;)

My big, happy, Disney Family!!!

As for me, you can probably tell that I’m a kid too. So if you have any questions about Disney for me, I can probably answer them. Questions like:

  • “How many times have you been to Disney?” I can answer that one off the top of my head. The answer is: I have gone to Disney 12 times, the tradition started in 2005.
  • “How many hidden Mickeys are in Walt Disney World?” That one may take some research… by the way, the answer is: over 1,000 (I Googled it).

But, yes. Ask me any Question, and when you get your answer, just call me “Miss Disney-know-it-all.” Just kidding, don’t call me that. That, you might say is “part one” of my Kids Corner intro. And it is! So check back later.

The new My Dreams of Disney!

Welcome to the new look for My Dreams of Disney!  I spent some time last night looking over a few themes from the Elegant Themes line of themes, and this one was the one that I kept coming back to.  The name of the theme is Envisioned, and has a lot of features that I like, especially the featured slider at the top!

Among the other things that I like, though, include the following options:

  • Being able to define three pages for below the slider.
  • Being able to create a gallery page that pulls in the images from multiple posts — so that you can easily find the most recent posts.  I’ve got it set to go back and pull 50 images in.
  • Being able to put in a quote and a link that describes more about the quote.
  • Having the ability to create an easy sitemap page.
  • And more!

So please, take a few minutes, look around, and tell me what you think in the comments below.  I appreciate it, and hope you are as excited by the theme as I am!  Thanks for stopping by and checking out the new look to My Dreams of Disney, and have a great day!

Magical Blogorail – Disney Online Planning Resources!

MBRed Logo 2013

Welcome to those of you joining me from Growing Up Disney and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the 3rd stop on our Magical Blogorail.

Today’s topic is about our online planning resources.  Other than our own sites or those of the Magical Blogorail Red line, what are some of our favorite social media or other online planning resources for planning our Disney vacations?

You know, it’s kind of funny to me, when I really sat down and started thinking about my online planning resources, it was kind of hard to come up with a concrete list.  I have a TON of Disney sites I read — including my teammates here on the Red line — but generally speaking, I’m reading their sites more for their trip reports, incredible pictures, and unique stories that they tell us than I am for planning tips.  In fact, and I’m sure that I’m being short-sighted in my trip planning — but I can probably narrow my online planning resources down to three sites — or less!

Online Planning Resources

Walt Disney World’s main website

I’ve been using the Walt Disney World website for several years now, really ever since we first started staying on Disney property way back in 2007.  This site, while it does have it’s technology hiccups — and being a TA and and IT guy, I know all about them — also has a wealth of information about so many things related to the Walt Disney World resort. Here are just a few of the things you can find there:

  1. Detailed information on the resorts, the parks, and the dining options.
  2. Incredible customized maps that you can have printed on special paper and mailed to your house — and they are free!
  3. The park schedules for knowing when they are open and when they close, and what time some of the shows are going on.
  4. The new My Disney Experience section — which, while it is still quite buggy and full of hiccups, will get better in time.

Touring Plans

I recently started using the Touring Plans website to create customized touring plans for my clients.  This is one of the free services that I provide for my clients.  It is a useful tool in helping you see as many attractions as possible while spending as little time as possible in lines.  As a site goes, it feels a little wonky to navigate, but it is stocked with many touring plans that you can customize for you and your family, and there are plans for all situations, all times of the year, and more, so I highly recommend you check them out if you are interested!

The Podcast

There really aren’t a whole lot of podcasts that I listen too — but one that I really do listen to, in many cases just for the sheer entertainment I get out of it — is the Podcast.  I listened to it before I started my endeavors as a travel agent, and I listen to it now as well.  The gang of Chris, Steve, Lisa, Lauren, and Bob never fail to make me smile and crack me up when I listen to them!

That about wraps it up for me — not that many things to research, right?  But somehow, we seem to be doing okay none-the-less!

Thank you for joining me today. Your next stop on the Magical Blogorail Loop is Disney Donna Kay.

Happy Birthday Cindy!

40th Anniversary

Today is the birthday of my lovely wife Cindy!  Those of you that have been reading for a while know that Cindy and Sophie are instrumental in helping plan the Disney trips that we love so much!  I can safely say without hesitation that if Cindy and I hadn’t gotten met, I would likely not be anywhere near the Disney fan that I am today.

She has seen me at my best, and she has seen me at my worst, and through thick and thin, regardless, she continues to love me to this day.  If that was all I had in this life, then I would still be the most blessed man in the world.

As it is, with Cindy we have had our wonderful daughter Sophie, whom we have shown love and compassion for nearly 12 years now.  We have bought our first home together, we have cried over losing loved ones, and prayed over others that were nearly lost to us.

We have witnessed the joy of seeing how compassionate our baby is towards her fellow human beings, and we have cried at the fear that the word Autism carries when we learned of her ASD.

We cried together when Sophie was born seven weeks early, and some of those tears were for Cindy knowing that her Mom and Dad were watching from Heaven, and would not be able to hold Sophie in their arms.

In August Cindy and I will celebrate our 13th Wedding Anniversary.  Just prior to that, we will take Sophie (shh, it’s sort of a secret!) to Walt Disney World when Pixie Vacations has a big Pixie get together for fun and relaxation and a chance to meet your fellow Travel Agents.  When we get there, we will be staying at the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa — the signature place to stay, where Cindy and I plan on staying for our 25th Wedding Anniversary.  Suffice it to say, neither one of us thought we would be staying there prior to that, so staying there in 1/2 the time we thought it would take is a special treat for us!

I know that this post has been all over the place, but that’s because my love for Cindy knows no boundaries, has no limits, and expands day by day.  There are so many things that I look forward to doing with Cindy in the years to come, I can’t wait to grow old together on our life journey.

Happy Birthday Cindy!  I love you honey!
