Updated Favorite Disney Hollywood Studios Attractions!

Hollywood Studios

No longer here, but still a favorite to me!

Hello everyone, and thank you for stopping by today!  Nearly four years ago, we ran a post about our favorite attractions at Disney’s Hollywood Studios — and today, with all of the changes that are under way at the park, we decided it was time for an update!  So, without further ado, here is our updated favorite Hollywood Studios attractions!  Keep in mind, I don’t have Fantasmic listed because I think of that as a show, not as an attraction.  Personally, while I haven’t seen Fantasmic at Walt Disney World, I have seen it at Disneyland, and it is at the top of all sorts of lists in my book!

Updated Top 5 Disney’s Hollywood Studios Attractions!

#1: Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith

Hollywood Studios Coming in at number one on our list — the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith attraction. This is one of my favorite roller coasters in all of Disney, and at Hollywood Studios, it is a must ride attraction for me every time! About the only thing I wish was different about it is the length — at just 1:22 of actual roller coaster time, that’s not very long at all!  The pre-show length is 3:12.

#2: Star Tours – The Adventure Continues

Hollywood Studios Before this attraction was redone, it wasn’t even a blip on my radar.  But with the way that they redid the attraction and re-opened it on May 20, 2011, this attraction shot up my wow factor, landing here at number two on the list.  What really did this for me I think is the fact that in each ride, one person from the group riding is chosen as the Rebel Spy — and on my very first ride, I was selected!

When you factor in the possibility of getting one of up to 54 different settings for the attraction, (although, to me, I think I’ve only seen maybe three or four different versions) and that just makes for a great adventure!

#3: Toy Story Midway Mania

Hollywood Studios Coming in at number three on our list is Toy Story Midway Mania, that crazy, wacky, carnival games ride where you are immersed into the carnival games of Andy’s world!

For me, it’s really a toss-up (pun somewhat intended) between this attraction and Star Tours as to which is number two, and which is number three on the list.  About the only reason I put Toy Story at number three is because the attraction — even with a FastPass — is often quite slow to load.  So, for that reason, and probably that reason alone, I have it listed at number three on our list. What are your thoughts regarding this attraction? Let us know in the comments!

#4: The Great Movie Ride

Hollywood Studios At number four in our countdown is The Great Movie Ride.  While this attraction doesn’t have the glitz and the glamour of the high thrill ride attractions, it is truly a really neat attraction, and features distinct looks at some of the great classic movies from the 20th Century.

One of the things I’ve been reading about lately, though, is the rumor that the attraction will be closing in 2018.  Will this be happening, and what does that mean to you?  Will you miss it, be glad to see it go, or something in between?  Let us know in the comments, and thanks!

#5: The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

Hollywood Studios Rounding out our top five is the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.  In our previous ranking, it wasn’t in my top five, but did make the honorable mention list.  This time, it’s number five.  Why is that?  Well, I will tell you right out that I do NOT like the drop sequences of the attraction.  It is among the things I least like at Walt Disney World — and ranks up there with such horrible attractions as “It’s Tough to be a Bug” over at Animal Kingdom.

But, what I do really enjoy, though, is the backstory.  I also really enjoy the theming.  And, I really, really do enjoy the anticipation.  So, because of all of that, I have decided to include the attraction on my list, and here it is at number five.

What are your thoughts on the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror? Do you like it or hate it?  Let us know in the comments below!

Honorable Mention: Muppet*Vision 3D

Hollywood Studios Muppet*Vision 3D was originally on our list at number four, but I’ve dropped it down to our list of Honorable Mentions this go around.  The primary reason for this is simply because it just isn’t as good for me as it used to be.  In days gone by, the corniness of the humor, the dated fashion, all of that “charm” that made the attraction one of my favorites, that was awesome.

Now, though, I think that my brain has shifted a bit, and what I used to think of as neat and quaint and all that, well, now it just seems old and dated and run down.  I’ll admit that this somewhat saddens me.  Still, on any given day at Hollywood Studios, I think the attraction will be given a visit, even if it’s just to get some photos of the props and stuff at the attraction, and it’s less about the show. What are your thoughts on it? Let us know in the comments!

Honorable Mention: One Man’s Dream

Hollywood Studios As I mentioned in my previous version of this post, One Man’s Dream is more museum than attraction, but it still holds a place in my heart.  The rumors are rampant that this attraction is getting ready to close.  Word is that the Archivists for Disney are heading to Florida to pack up the exhibits and take them to San Francisco, to the Walt Disney Family Museum.  I don’t know if this is true or not, but it wouldn’t surprise me.  Sadly, attractions like this are just not as popular as they used to be, and if it does close, it’ll be one more thing that changes Hollywood Studios from being a Theme Park and just making it like any other run of the mill Amusement Park.

What are your thoughts on this? Let me know, and thanks!

So, how did we do in our updated list of our favorite attractions at Disney’s Hollywood Studios?  Did we hit a home run, strike out, or somewhere in between? Let us know in the comments below, and thanks for stopping by!

Sophie’s Favorite Attraction – Splash Mountain!

Welcome to the first stop aboard Magical Blogorail. Enjoy the ride as we share Disney attractions reviews from our kids.

The 52' Drop from the top of Splash Mountain!

The 52′ Drop from the top of Splash Mountain!

Hello Disney Fans!!! Today, I’m writing about my favorite attraction: Splash Mountain!!! Would you believe that for a long time, I was utterly, terrified of that drop?  If you’ve been with us in an earlier time, then you know that story. If this is the first post you’ve read, kick back and let me type a story for you.

It was in the trip of 2012. My parents and I were with a friend who loved Splash Mountain. One thing lead to another, and somehow, they convinced me to go and ride with them. It was the scariest thing for me! I was so paranoid that we would actually go into the briar patch! About half way through “the laughing place,” Daddy’s hat fell down and touched me. I. WAS. SO. SCARED!!! I thought it was an oversized queen bee about to sting me or something! I was screaming like bloody murder! The funniest part was when we were going up to the top. My mom was next to me, and she said that I was holding on so tightly, I was cutting off circulation. As we were going down the drop, I prepared for a lot of thorns. But, we didn’t go into the briar patch. I was like “AHHHHH!!!…. oh.” I saw that we went through a small tunnel. I was actually going under the briar patch! So now that i’m not afraid of the briars, I really like the ride, as you can tell from this picture of a group of us going on Splash Mountain (I’m in the pink Minnie Ears in the front on the right).

Toy Story Mania

Wildest Shots of Toy Story Mania!

Toy Story Mania

Toy Story Mania is great because it is like being a part of Andy’s Toy Box!

Hello everyone!  As we continue our look today at Toy Story Mania, today I’ve got some great Facts and Figures that you may not have known about.  I hope you enjoy!

Toy Story Facts and Figures!

  • Toy Story Mania is the first attraction that Walt Disney Imagineering designed for two parks at the same time — Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s California Adventure!
  • This is the first attraction that Walt Disney Imagineering designed where the Imagineers had to wear 3-D glasses to art direct all the black-light paint elements.
  • In Toy Story Mania, every person experiences life the size of a toy.  So, a 5 1/2 foot tall person is seeing the room the size of a 14 inch toy!
  • Each ride vehicle weighs as much as 8,580 Woody dolls.
  • In each of the Toy Story Mania! games, there is at least one “easter egg” — targets that can trigger the appearance of bonus high-value targets and other changes in the scene.

This is a lot of great information, but there are even more things for you to discover.  Did you know about the easter eggs?  I know that I didn’t!  While I imagine that I may have hit one at some point, I don’t know which one was it, or even if it still exists.  What about you?  Thanks for stopping by today for our #DisneyTrivia post!  Don’t forget to see my friend Jodi’s post at Magical Mouse Schoolhouse and my friend Heidi’s post at Heidi’s Head!  They always have great trivia that is so much better than mine!

6 Days: Toy Story Mania

Toy Story Mania

Toy Story Mania is our choice for #Day6 in our #DisneyWorldCountdown!

We are really getting down to the wire, and on this great Monday, we are taking a look at Toy Story Mania for our Disney World Countdown post!  This is one of the best attractions in all of Disney, but it suffers — or, at least, it used to suffer — from such popularity that it ran out of FastPass selections really early, so if you didn’t get there early, you were likely to miss out on it and just have to wait 60 minutes or longer for a FastPass.  With the new FastPass+ system, I wonder if that has improved any.  I would think it has, at least for those that take the time to plan their FastPass+ selections online, but I’m not sure.  If any of you have experience with this and have an opinion one way or another, I’d love to hear it, so let me know please.

Toy Story Mania is great from the queue on in.  Here is a picture of Sophie with Mr. Potato Head in the line at Hollywood Studios!

Toy Story Mania

Toy Story Mania is an attraction where you play a whole bunch of different Midway Games!

The Midway Games are how you get your score, and you will ride in special vehicles that take you through and allow you to play the games.

Toy Story Mania

Toy Story Mania is great because it is like being a part of Andy’s Toy Box!

Other than the line issues, which is hard, Toy Story Mania is one of my favorite attractions.  Do you like it?  Let me know in the comments, and thanks for stopping by!

Studio Backlot Tour

40 Days: Studio Backlot Tour

Studio Backlot Tour

I wonder if this “volunteer” knows what he’s getting into on the Studio Backlot Tour…

Hello everyone, and welcome to our look at the Studio Backlot Tour, part of our #DisneyWorldCountdown!  Can you believe that we are now sitting at #Day40 in our countdown?  That means that I’ve already shared with you 60 things that we are interested in, and I hope that you are enjoying our look at some things you might not think about taking a look at in either your Disney planning or when you are there at the parks.  Today’s attraction is one that we’ve only seen once, so it isn’t one that I have a whole lot of history with, but I do remember enjoying it — enough that I liked it, but not enough that it became a must do every year.  I do like the way that the “volunteers” — are they really volunteers you think? — play their roles.  As I said in the caption, do you think this one knew what he was getting himself into?  I don’t, as the pictures will show…

Studio Backlot Tour

I’m guessing that he doesn’t…

Oh, oh, better watch out and hope your buckled in properly!

Studio Backlot Tour

Throughout it all, though, he was a great trooper!

Despite getting doused with water, though, at the end, he still has a smile on his face for his 15 minutes of fame!  His partner, though, not so much…

Studio Backlot Tour

While this “volunteer” now wishes he hadn’t…

What do you think will happen with this tanker, though?  Any thoughts?

Studio Backlot Tour

What do you think will happen with this tanker?

I liked the Studio Backlot Tour.  It is kind of loud, though, so if you have youngsters, you may want to bring ear plugs for them — I know that Sophie and I can’t experience this without them because of the somewhat loud explosions.  I don’t know that I need to do this one again, but still, if you have never seen it, go take it in and tell me what you think.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you have a great day!
