Magic Kingdom Attraction Guide – Astro Orbiter

Astro Orbiter

In our Magic Kingdom Attraction Guide series, we’ve covered Main Street, U.S.A. and Fantasyland, and now we’re switching our attention to the futuristic land, Tomorrowland.  It is purely by coincidence that we are looking at this land today, the day that the Tomorrowland movie is released, but it is very appropriate nonetheless.  Astro Orbiter is first in our list, here are the details for this ride that is nearly out of this world:

Attraction Name: Astro Orbiter
Attraction Type: Slow Rides, Spinning
Height Requirements: None
Location: Tomorrowland
Hours of Operation: All Day
FastPass+: Not Available

I like this attraction, but it does have some drawbacks, so I thought I would share the pros and cons for this attraction with you:

Pros:

  • It is situated above the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, so you can get some good views of the park because of the height.
  • It isn’t so fast that you are going to make yourself sick, and you can get good pictures because the speed isn’t so great that your camera can’t focus.

Cons:

  • Being so high up, you get to the attraction by elevator, and the loading process is very slow, which leads to long waits.
  • The rockets are not very big, so for people like myself, it’s a tight fit.
  • The ride doesn’t last very long, so it seems like a long wait for little reward.

While I do like the attraction, it isn’t my favorite, and I’ll gladly choose the TTA over the Astro Orbiter any day, and twice on Sunday!  Do you and your family like the Astro Orbiter?  Let me know in the comments, and thanks!

TTA

The Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover is our choice for #Day65 of our #DisneyWorldCountdown!

Hello everyone, and welcome to #Day65 in our #DisneyWorldCountdown!  Today’s featured post is, of course, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover (also known as the TTA for short)!  This is one of my favorite attractions to ride at Walt Disney World simply because it takes you on an exploration of Tomorrowland, showing you sites and scenes that you can’t see any other way!  Best of all, if your feet are tired, riding on the TTA and it’s 10 minute, 3 second duration are a great way to relax your feet and rejuvenate for a strong finish!  The best way to talk about the TTA, though, is by sharing with you some of my pictures!  Sadly, my night pictures of the scenes around the TTA are not very good, so I’ll be limiting myself to some daytime shots, but I hope you enjoy them nonetheless!

What I like is the overhead shots you can get of Tomorrowland. Here you see Space Mountain in the distance.

The TTA winds it’s way around several Tomorrowland attractions, including Astro Orbiter.

So much of our trips to the Magic Kingdom revolve for me around relaxing and taking in all that the World has to share with us, and for me, one of my favorite ways to see Tomorrowland is via the TTA.  Do you like the attraction?  Let me know in the comments, and thanks for stopping by!

93 Days: Astro Orbiter

Astro Orbiter

The Astro Orbiter rides high above Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom.

Hello everyone, and welcome to day 93 in our #DisneyWorldCountdown!  Today is Friday, and we are officially sitting at 14 weeks and 2 days until we arrive at our destination: Walt Disney World!  For today’s post, we are going to take a look at the Astro Orbiter, one of those rides that is really cool to see, but for me, it’s kind of annoying to ride because the line to ride it is so long and so slow moving!  So, as a result, we don’t ride it very much, but we do ride it sometimes, and I think this year I might ride it once at night to get a different perspective on it all.

Astro Orbiter

The Astro Orbiter beckons you to experience it and blast into outer space!

Visually, the Astro Orbiter is quite appealing to look at, with it’s multi-colored planets and moons staring at you, and it also provides a great perspective for you to see many of the sites around Tomorrowland.  It is similar to it’s neighboring attraction the Tomorrowland Transit Authority in that both of those attractions provide very unique views of much of Tomorrowland, and it’s those unique views that really provide a great opportunity for you to enjoy a different side of the Magic Kingdom.

I don’t have very good on-ride pictures, but here are what I’ve got — as you can see, one shot provides a view all the way over to the Grand Floridian!

Sophie’s Favorite Disney Attractions!

Splash Mountain

Hello everyone, this is Mike from My Dreams of Disney, and starting today, I’ve got a unique treat for you!  I’ll be interviewing my daughter Sophie to find out her favorites on a wide variety of Disney topics!  This week, to kick us off, we are going to find out Sophie’s Favorite Disney Attractions!  The lineup so far is like this:

  • Today, Sophie’s Favorite Disney Attractions!
  • Next week, Sophie’s Favorite Disney Characters!
  • The following week, Sophie’s Favorite Disney Reservation Dinners!
  • Lastly, Sophie’s Favorite Disney Memories!

So, without further ado, here is Sophie’s top 10 list of her favorite Disney attractions!

  1. Splash Mountain
    1. Sophie likes this most of all because it’s like going through the whole story of Song of the South, which is what the ride is based off of.
  2. Mickey’s PhilharMagic
    1. Like her old man, Sophie loves the scenes of Donald passing through the different classic Disney movies.  She especially likes Luminare singing “Be our Guest” because she loves the smell of the food!
  3. Haunted Mansion
    1. This attraction up on the list is great because it’s so much fun!  In the audio recording there is a story Sophie told about how her and her cousin’s heads were switched around by the Hitchhiking Ghosts!
  4. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin!
    1. Help defeat the evil Zurg!
  5. Tomorrowland Transit Authority (TTA) PeopleMover!
    1. I like it because it gives you a full tour of Tomorrowland, even though it goes through Space Mountain, an attraction I don’t like!
  6. Jungle Cruise
    1. I like it because it really feels like you’re seeing the jungles of Africa, and the world famous “backside of water!”
  7. Enchanted Tiki Room
    1. Sophie loves the singing birds!  Also, she loves it as the old style better then when it was Under New Management!
  8. Dumbo the Flying Elephant!
    1. I like it because you get to see Timothy up in the center and you get to control how it’s flying!
  9. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh!
    1. It’s cute seeing Pooh, and you can actually smell the honey when he’s collecting it!  I also like the Hephalump room, although one time she got a bloody nose in this room.
  10. The Hall of Presidents
    1. Sophie likes this, but there is one President she doesn’t like — but she’ll keep that to herself.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad — perhaps it’s been elevated to number 10 now? :)
  • Carousel of Progress — number 12 on the list!
  • Peter Pan’s Flight — I like it, but the line is so long sometimes! {Editor’s Note: Eta Pravda translates from Russian to “This is True.”}
  • It’s a Small World — number 13 on the list!  Love the singing characters!

Sophie’s Favorite Disney Attractions

Relaxing on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority!

Oh, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover!  This is one of my favorite attractions in all of the Magic Kingdom.  For me, it’s a simple and relaxing way to enjoy the sites of Tomorrowland, and it is especially cool to ride when it is night out.

When it comes to the TTA, as I like to call it, the futuristic mode of transportation only has one flaw — it doesn’t do anything but go in a long loop.  It would be really cool if they would expand the TTA as a way of traveling from one land to another land.  One thing that I really miss and wish they would bring it back — even if it was only for a short period — is the old Skyway.  That was such a cool way of both moving from one land to another and also seeing a side of the Magic Kingdom that you don’t see often.  Expanding the TTA to other lands as a means of travel would be a neat way to bring back some of the aspects of the Skyway, but in a different way.

For now, though, the TTA is exactly the way it always has been, and that isn’t likely to change much.  So, take some time next trip and ride the TTA, and enjoy the relaxing nature of this classic attraction.  “Paging Mr. Morrow, Mr. Tom Morrow.”

For a quick Disney fix, enjoy this YouTube video of the TTA that was recorded at night — and while Space Mountain was being refurbished a few years ago!  Enjoy!
