Tiggerific Tuesday Trivia – Steamboat Willie

While Steamboat Willie wasn’t introduced to the world until November 18, 1928, today, September 30 is still a big day in the history of Steamboat Willie. It was on this day in 1928 that the following Disney Trivia was created:

September 30, 1928:
A second recording session for Steamboat Willie takes place in New York with conductor Carl Edouarde and a 15-piece band. The first session on September 15 had been a disaster as the musicians couldn’t play in time with the animated film. This time Walt is prepared to deal with the problem of synchronization. Ub Iwerks has made a special print of the film with an animated bouncing ball – on both the soundtrack and the film. The ball rises and falls to the accent of the beat, thus creating a visual signal and a soft audio click. Instead of being projected above the band, Iwerks’ print is projected directly down onto Edouarde’s printed score. The session takes place in just three hours and is a complete success! (The cartoon short will debut November 18.)

Thanks for stopping by today as we explore some unique Disney Trivia!  I always enjoy reading the trivia that my friends Heidi from Heidi’s Head, Jenn from Disney Babies Blog, and Jodi from Magical Mouse Schoolhouse have to share, as well as the ones that you all add to our group!  It makes for a fun time for everyone!  To read the rest of the entries, just click on them below, and thanks for stopping by!  Whatever you do, make sure to make it a Disney Day, and don’t forget to enter to win a $400 or $200 Disney Gift Card!

Surprising Sophie at the Grand Floridian!

Grand Floridian Resort & Spa We surprised Sophie last night — Cindy, Sophie and I leave in a few hours for our next Disney Destination — the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa!  We have never stayed there before — in fact, the only time we have even been there was to eat at 1900 Park Fare for dinner way back in 2008 to celebrate Sophie’s 7th birthday.  We enjoyed the food, and Cinderella and Prince Charming — but Sophie and I did not like the step-mother and step-sisters — they were too realistic in how they played their roles!

The Grand Floridian, though, is a place that Cindy and I have had plans on visiting for many years.  We thought that it would entirely likely that we wouldn’t visit the resort until our 25th wedding anniversary, which won’t be until the year 2025 — but when I became an Authorized Disney Travel Agent in February with Pixie Vacations, all of that changed!  I found out then that this week Pixie is having an agent get-together, and we are going to be able to stay there much earlier than we thought!  Since our anniversary is next month (it will be our 13th) I’m scoring husband points by taking Cindy there in half the time she thought we would visit!  Yay me!

I am really looking forward to this trip.  Not only are we staying at a new resort for us, we are also participating in the Illuminations Dessert Party on Wednesday night, Thursday morning we are dining at the Prop Shop at Hollywood Studios for breakfast, and Friday night we are having dinner with my dear Sister Brenda and her husband!  So many first time experiences, I can’t wait to share all of them with you when we get back.

What new experience are you looking forward to when you go on your next Disney vacation?  Let me know in the comments, and thanks for stopping by!  Also, don’t forget to enter to win our special Disney print of Walt Disney drawing Steamboat Willie!

Get ready for another Disney Contest!

Walt Disney drawing Steamboat Willie

While we were at Disneyland I spent part of the time searching for a memorable gift that I could give away on the blog for our next Disney contest.  After much searching, thinking, and looking, I decided what better gift could I give than a print of a picture of Walt Disney drawing Steamboat Willie?

At Disneyland (and I suspect, Walt Disney World also) in the World of Disney store there is a special kiosk where you can look through and search the prints to order.  Since it was our last night before leaving to go home, I decided it made sense to have them ship the artwork to our house, which they did.  The print detail itself is about 15 1/2″ x 19 1/2″, but the paper it’s printed on measures about 22″ x 28″, so there is plenty of width around the print to have it trimmed up for framing.  If you win, you’ll be responsible for framing, but the print itself has a retail price of $32, so I think you will appreciate the gift.

In my opinion, it is a very nice piece that any Disney fan will love to have hanging on their wall somewhere in their house or office.

The contest will start on Monday, July 22, 2013 at Midnight, and run until Sunday night, July 28, 2013, at 11:59PM.  The winner will be selected on Monday, July 29, 2013, and will be announced via email.  The winner will have 24 hours to respond to the email based on the timestamp of that email, if they do not respond, I will be forced to choose a different winner.
