Thank you for visiting with us this year!

My friends, as the 2013 calendar year winds down, we here at My Dreams of Disney would like to take a bit of time and look back at all of the great posts that we have had, and really look back at the impact you, our readers, have had in helping us to become one of the sites that you look to for your daily Disney fix.  As a result, this post is written from the heart with you, our reader, in mind, and I hope you enjoy our take at remembering 2013!  My plan is to share with you some of the posts that you really enjoyed reading about, so sit back, relax, and enjoy our own version of the wayback machine!

The Disney Apps I roll with

iphone5_large-294128 I wrote this post in response to some questions I had from a few friends about what I have on my iPhone, and I can tell you that all of the apps listed in that post are some of my favorite apps.  What apps do you have on your phone for getting your Disney fix with?  Let me know in the comments, and thanks!

Tanya’s Tips for being selected as First Family at Disney

Tanya's Family We sent out a call to see if anyone was interested in pursuing their interest in Disney blogging, and Tanya was one of the people that responded and wrote some great posts for us.  Among them were her tips about being selected as the First Family at Disney — they actually were selected to open Animal Kingdom one year!  This is a great post, and one I highly recommend for anyone that is interested in participating in such a great Disney tradition!

TimeStream Software Updates Its Disney World Mobile Guide App

Disney World Mobile Guide iPhone 4 - 172 x 310 The month after my post about the Disney Apps went live, my friends at TimeStream Software announced an update to their mobile guide app.  This updated app included all of the new information related to the Fantasyland Expansion, and is still a must have on my iPhone!  Check it out if you haven’t done so yet!

Five Ways to Ruin Your Disney Vacation

10 Places I want to eat at at Walt Disney World

Dining-Reviews In this post, I shared with you ten places that I have not eaten at over at Walt Disney World, and listed them.  I received some great comments from you, but if you haven’t seen the post, check out my list, or better yet, check out our Disney Planning Resources page for reviews of the restaurants that we have eaten at.  Thanks!

Outside of our Disney posts, which take up the bulk of our writing, this past year I did start a very special series of posts on March 3rd.  That Sunday I started our weekly Prayers for the Week posts, and it has been my privilege to continue those posts to this day.  If you ever have any prayer requests that you need us and everyone that reads these posts to pray over, please leave a comment here, or on our Facebook page, or email me at mickey@mydreamsofdisney.com, or something, and we will do that for you.

My friends, we here at My Dreams of Disney would like to thank you for spending part of your day stopping by and visiting with us.  It is truly an honor to us that you find our information helpful and fun in your Disney planning — or even just in your Disney fix!  We are humbled by your presence, and want you to know that.  Please have a very fun, but safe, close to 2013 and start of 2014, and remember, don’t drink and drive and don’t text and drive — all of those are tragedies waiting to happen, and totally preventable.  Be safe, and we’ll talk to you in 2014!

Our Next Disney Vacation!

Our next Disney Vacation!

Our next Disney Vacation!

On Christmas Day, as part of her Christmas present, Sophie learned of a very special trip that she will be taking with two of her best friends — to celebrate Sophie’s 13th Birthday!

This is something that we’ve been planning for quite a while, behind the scenes, so to speak.  None of this would have been possible if we hadn’t bought our membership in the Disney Vacation Club, and I am extremely excited that we did that because we have been having great vacations with our family and close friends ever since!

So, with the days ticking off until our next trip, we’ve got some planning to take care of!  For starters, we’ve got to figure out what dining options we need to work on.  We’ve got some special diet requirements that we’ve got to work with, so the Disney Dining Plan is not going to be an option for us this time.  I’ve already taken care of emailing the Special Diets folks at Disney (that sounds like a new blog post to me!) and they have been very helpful in sending me some great recommendations back.  Also, since there are going to be eight of us, one thing that might be a great option for us is to invest in the Tables in Wonderland card. This special card — which is only available for purchase to Florida residents or Annual Passholders — costs $100 but it allows you to save 20% off of most restaurants at Walt Disney World, including any alcoholic beverages, and you can get discounts on purchases also of merchandise.

Also on the list of things to do — decide on what we want to do with Fastpasses, MyMagic+, and all that.  Talk about some of the great things we want to explore at the parks.  Talk about that “other park” and whether or not we want to visit it (I’m thinking of sending Sophie over with some of our friends while Cindy and I enjoy the parks on our own…).  Stay tuned, friends, and we’ll take a more in-depth look at these things over the next few months.  As of December 27th, 2013, we are 170 days away from our trip!

Walt Disney on “What’s My Line?”

My Dreams of Disney Header

I’ve been in a bit of a nostalgic mood these past few days, and I found myself thinking more and more about Walt Disney.  There are so many facets to who this man was, which I touched on in my tribute post from this past Sunday.  He was a father, a husband, and an innovator.  However, perhaps nothing sums up the joy for life that Walt Disney had more than this YouTube video that my wife Cindy found, when Walt was the “Mystery Guest” on the classic ’50s television show, “What’s My Line.”  Have a look at this clip of about eight minutes, and laugh along with me as you enjoy the ways that Walt Disney works as hard as possible to keep the panel from figuring out who he really is.  I loved this video, and I think that you will love it also!

Thank you for joining us each and every day here on My Dreams of Disney!  It is because of you that we have this site.  Is there anything specific that you would like to see us focus on?  If so, please leave us a note in the comments, and thanks everyone!  Until next time, remember that here at My Dreams of Disney, it’s our goal to help you turn My Dreams of Disney into Your Dreams of Disney!

Mickey Mouse Mash Up App Review

Mickey Mouse Mash Up app

I don’t claim to be the most tech savvy person on the planet, but I do enjoy a little electronic diversion from time to time. And if I can combine my love of Disney with that play time, it’s all good! But there is something that I insist on: Whatever the game or app is, it must be simple. Yup. Just get me to the fun!

The Mickey Mouse Mash Up App does just that. This review was done on an iPhone 5c.

Mickey Mouse Mash up 001

This activity-based App works around the Short entitled No Service that you may have seen on the Internet lately. It’s a great little Short, and it was a lot of fun to play with it, adding my own touches.

It begins with Mickey welcoming you and asking for your help. He asks you to draw something big that you would find on a beach, and something small as well. Here is my attempt at a beach ball:

This will appear in the Short later on. After drawing a small seashell and a pair of glasses for Mickey to wear, the Short begins. But it’s not long before Mickey needs help and I was asked to draw a food item for a sign that appears in the Short:

I hate Turkey Legs at the Parks, but it was the simplest thing I could think of to draw. And here it is in the Short:

Mickey Mouse Mash up 005

No Shirt. No shoes. No Food (or Turkey Leg, as the case may be!) OK, the Short continues with many activities along the way. You get to draw things to hide Mickey, help him land on the beach (long story) and other fun things. Perhaps my favorite thing to do was play a joke on Donald. Note as he tries to use my ID at the diner:

Yup, I drew the picture on the ID and it does look kind of like me. Unfortunately. But moving on, I’d say this App was a pleasant little diversion. Kids especially will get a kick out of helping Mickey by drawing and coloring pictures which they will then see in the Short itself. If I’m not mistaken, you can do six different mash-ups of the same Short.

Adding new Shorts will be a good thing that I hope is in the works! You can play the activities at any time from a main menu. Other than that, though, that seems to be all that the App offers.

The App sells for $3.99 and is a good deal for that, although more value could be added with more Shorts later. So, have you used the Mickey Mouse Mash Up App yet? If not, why not give it a try? And while you’re thinking about that, here is one last picture of my masterpiece:

Get Ready for our Disney Memories!

In one of my favorite Disney trips, here I am with my wife Cindy and daughter Sophie, loving every minute!

In one of my favorite Disney trips, here I am with my wife Cindy and daughter Sophie, loving every minute!

Good morning everyone!  Thank you for stopping by our site today on your quest for the ever elusive Disney Fix!  I have some very exciting news — from my perspective, anyway — that I want to share with you!

One of my favorite reasons why my family and I truly love to visit Walt Disney World and Disneyland is because of the incredible memories that we make with each and every trip.  In fact, I would say that some of the best moments of my life have been shared with my family on our trips — and it seems like each and every year, we find one more lasting memory — and often more than one, I might add! — that truly makes our trips to Disney parks something special for us.

As a result, I have decided that we are going to have a series — once a week — that will take a particular trip we’ve made, and share what our favorite Disney memories were from that trip.  I’ll be sharing the perspective from my point of view, that of my wife Cindy, and also Sophie’s favorite memories for each post.  In fact, since some of these trips have been made with family and friends as well, I’m going to see about getting their lasting memory from the trip to share with you as well!

It dawned on me the other day when I was writing my tribute post for Walt Disney’s birthday that if Walt were still with us, he would probably love hearing the memories that people have created at his parks more than anything else, and that is what gave me the idea to write about our memories from each year.

I hope you are as excited about this series as I am!  Look for our first post tomorrow, Wednesday, December 11, and each Wednesday thereafter!  Tomorrow’s post will be about a trip Cindy and I made way back in 2000!  I’ll talk to you then!  Until next time, though, go out and make it a Disney Day!
