Prayers for the Week – God’s Word

psalms-119105

“Thy Word is  Lamp unto my feet, and a Light unto my path.” ~ Psalms 119:105

Such a simple verse, my friends, but full of power!  In today’s Prayers for the Week I wanted to touch upon a problem I have — one that is quite easy to overcome, but one that I find myself failing to do so…I am not as well-read in the Bible as I ought to be!

Please pray for me about this, because I have seen time and time again the power of our prayers, and I have also seen many times how good the day goes when I do start my day in God’s Word, and how much trouble the day can be if I don’t.  So, my friends, today I ask you this simple question: “How much time do you spend in God’s Word each day?”  Is your Bible too often like mine — forgotten on a shelf instead of open in your lap, searching out God’s direction for us?  If it is, how about we make a challenge together — to work with one another, making each other our accountability partners?  If you would like to do this, shoot me an email to mickey@mydreamsofdisney.com, and I’ll email you what I read in my Bible, and you email me and tell me what you read.  That way, together, we can keep each other focused in the Word, and over time, we’ll be more “Bible Literate” and better able to withstand the challenges of a fallen world!

Prayer Requests and Praises!

Prayers go out this week to my friend Jeff, who’s Mom lost her battle against Breast Cancer this week.  Jeff and all his family know that she is in Heaven right now, but that doesn’t ease the pain any, so please lift them up in prayers for their comfort and strength in the days to come, but also give thanks and praise to God for Jeff’s Mom, and the witness that she was throughout her life.  As Jeff wrote so eloquently:

Today Mom ended her battle with cancer and we celebrate the peace that she can now have in heaven. Mom lived by her motto of not just surviving but thriving. She has been an inspiration to so many and the best role model I have ever known. The family will have a visitation on Sunday evening from 6-8pm at Brown-Wynn Funeral home in Cary and the funeral will be at Colonial Baptist Church in Cary on Monday at 2p. We can all celebrate knowing that Moms faith in god kept her and all of us at peace as she passed. Donations are preferred to The Wolfpack Club, Susan G. Komen Foundation, Wake County Hospice, or your favorite charity in lieu of flowers.

Additionally, Sherry has a prayer request:

Please pray for my unsaved friend Kelly, she is searching and finally accepted my invitation to church on Sunday. So this is a praise & a prayer request. She loved my church and our praise and worship time. They gave her a Bible and she couldn’t believe it was free…..LOL. She has already signed up for our womens breakfast on Aug 6th and cannot wait to come back for another Sunday svc. Please pray that satan will be bound and unable to interfere as Kelly is open to hearing God’s word and is hungry for more!
Thank you and God Bless
Sherry Hofmann

My friend Bambi’s little girl was sick and had to be hospitalized this past week.  It took a while, but her baby is feeling much better, and has been sent home now, where it appears like she is no worse for wear!  So thank you Lord for hearing our prayers and healing your little angel on earth!

My good friend Lisa had need of our prayers during the week as her son had to have some surgery.  She just let me know though that his surgery was a big success, so Praises to God for that, and he is recovering very well!  Thank you Lord and all of you that were praying for him!

I also have a friend that is worried about their job — there is a contract dispute and their job is in jeopardy as a result.  Please pray for them — because of the sensitive nature of this, I’m keeping some of the details silent at this time, but please pray for them, we all know that God knows what we need even when we don’t know how to put it into words, so I offer up this prayer for my friend and all of the others that we don’t know about:

Lord, the worry that we can experience over our job situations is sometimes very hard to deal with — but we also know that You are in control of the situation, and that You will take care of us for the best if we just ask it of You.  We know that you have our best interests in mind, for you said in Jeremiah 29:11 — “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

As a result, while we are worried over our jobs, we know that if we turn to You it will be okay, and You will take care of it, whether that means keeping our existing job or finding a new one.  Thank You Lord for taking care of this — please give me the strength and Peace to endure whatever it is I need to endure in this trial, but also allow this trial to draw me closer to Your Will, so that I might be a better Disciple of Christ for You.  It is in Jesus’ name that I pray with Thanksgiving!  Amen.

Lastly, my friend Beth has had a nephew who was fighting cancer and other ailments.  I just heard that he is now officially cancer free!  Praise God for that, and please keep praying for him that he would remain that way!  Thanks everyone!

Prayers for the Week — God is our Refuge

God-Our-Help_scripture This week, my friends has seen a lot of troubles for believers and non-believers alike.  As a result, I thought I would share with you all my belief — and I can think of no greater verse to share with you today than Psalm 46:1, as depicted in the photo above:

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”

Such a simple verse, isn’t it, and yet, it is packed with such power!  When I read this, I immediately knew that, regardless of the problems I face or anyone, for that matter, faces, if we rely on our God, He will provide, and He will take care of us.

My friends, I have praises and prayer requests aplenty this week, so let’s get right down to business, remembering, though, as we read, that God is with us — if we invite Him to join us!

Praises!

Lord, we have so much to be thankful for!  Let’s take a moment to thank You for all of the blessings that you have bestowed on us!

  • I first want to take a moment to thank you for my family — night and day, through thick and thin, regardless of the circumstances, we know that there is Love in our family — and that because of that, we can get through everything that the world throws our way.
  • Lord, I also want to thank you for the blessing we have of having our health, and our jobs as well.  While the world struggles at times with feelings of entitlement and laziness, most of us strive to improve ourselves through good old fashioned hard work — something that many people have forgotten the definition for.
  • Lord, I also want to thank you for the blessing of being able to study your word in a country where doing so will not land you in jail, or persecuted in other ways.  It is something that those of us in the United States and other free countries take for granted at times, I think, but I try to remember to thank you for the blessings of freedom.
  • Lord, I also want to praise you for ANSWERED PRAYERS!  This became evident as recently as this past Friday, when a dear Sister in Christ was full of despair, and simply through the act of prayer, you gave her that special Peace that only you can do — and once she had Peace, the answer to her problem was revealed by You, so thank YOU for helping her!  Likewise, my dear niece Stephanie, who faces many trials and tribulations, has at least had some prayers answered — she now has more information than she had previously, and with Your help, and Your blessing upon her team of doctors, You will see her through this, You will keep her husband Shane safe, and You will see Stephanie restored to the healthy, vibrant Child of God that we know her to be!  Thank You Lord in advance!
  • Lord, I lastly want to thank you for all of the other things you do for us — things seen and unseen, asked for and only thought about, and prayers that you answer when we don’t even know how to frame them in words.  Thank You, God, for all that You give us, especially for your Son Jesus!

Prayer Requests

  •  Lord, while we saw direct evidence of how Your Will can conquer considerable hurtles, still, that family has many needs.  My Sister in Christ’s son is a veteran of our armed forces, and he suffers from PTSD.  Lord, please stay with him and help him with this tragic disease, heal him if it is your Will, and keep him safe.  Thank You Lord for answering these prayers for us!
  • Lord, please keep Stephanie close to You, and Shane also, so that they may both make it through their challenges and be reunited in two short months.  Lord, Thank You in advance for staying close to them during this time, and may their love for one another be even stronger than it was before Shane left for training.
  • Lord, while this seems small perhaps, I want to ask for your prayers for my friends Jodi and Mary, Amanda and Chip and Jeff.  We had a server experience issues, and that caused all of our sites, mine included, to have difficulty during this week.  Hardest hit was my dear friend Mary, who’s site lost data all the way back to February!  While a loss for me is more in the “inconvenience” role because I don’t do as much with my site, for Mary and Jodi, a loss of that magnitude ends up being a huge financial burden on them, espeically Mary, because of her online store.  It was a big support failure, and we have learned lessons, but Mary is going through some huge amounts of work to recreate things that were lost.  Lord, please, if it is Your Will, help Mary by giving her the ideas that she needs to not only recover from her loss, but turn it into a huge gain now — and down the road.  Thank You in advance for helping us out!
  • Lord, I just found out that my friend Bambi, who’s daughter is only two years old — is sick and is being looked at.  Lord, I know what it’s like when your child is sick, and also how scary it can be for both the family and the child, so Lord, while we don’t know what the problem is, we know that You do, and we ask that You guide the skillful hands of the doctors as they see what is wrong and work together to solve her distress.  Lord, healing prayers are what we are praying at this time, and we know that You are with this strong Christian family and their little Angel.  Thank you!
  • Lord, the last thing I want to ask for prayers for involves all of the prayers that people haven’t shared, but have need on their hearts.  Lord, You know all of thoughts, feelings, needs, and wants, and you know what is going on in our hearts when we can’t even formulate the words.  Lord, take those prayers, please, and act on them as your Will deems necessary, and thank you for everything!

Do you have prayer requests that you need to share and have us pray over?  If you do, I implore you to share them in the comments below, and watch as hundreds of people pray for you and your needs, and see what the Power of Prayer can do in your life!  Thank you for stopping by, for reading these praises and prayer requests, and thank you for praying.  I hope everyone has a great week, and may God shine His blessing upon you, and keep you safe from harm!  Remember Psalm 46:1 — He is our refuge and strength, our ever-present help in trouble.

Amen.

Prayers for the Week – Mixing Camp and God!

mdod-prayers of the week

Hello everyone, and welcome to this week’s Prayers for the Week! Today we are celebrating the successful conclusion to our daughter’s first sleep-away camp! She had a great time at camp, and already plans to go next year too!

In addition to that huge praise, where Sophie not only had fun, but learned some great things about God at the same time, my Mom, Sister, and Niece were visiting, and they left for home yesterday after a nice visit. They made it home safely, so thank you God for seeing them through several July 4th issues!

Lord, I also want to thank you for the wonderful Independence Day that we celebrated on Thursday in the United States. It was a great day here, and we really enjoyed celebrating the birth of our nation, and pray that with your help, God, we would continue to be one nation, Under God, and that you would put the type of leaders in place that love You, fear You, and rely on You for guidance!

My Dreams of Disney reader Laurie had left this comment on Facebook, it sure sounds like a praise to me! Here is what she wrote:

HUG TIGHT, got my home even if I need things fixed it is awesome. Miracle the horse is better, and Team Sarah is doing well. Thank you for your prayers. Now for 3 weeks in Ohio, a trip to end trips.

Lord, we also have some prayer requests, though, that I want to highlight with you and lift up to you at this time. Please, everyone, pray for these people so they might have Peace.

  • Lord, we lift up the families of the people on the airline flight that crashed in San Francisco yesterday, and know that You are keeping them close to You so that they might have your comfort, strength, and peace.
  • My friend Theresa needs our prayers for her, her daughters, and the rest of her family. Here is what she wrote on Facebook:Sad day today. My girls lost their grandmother yesterday. She was an amazing woman who was so good to my girls and did so much for them. My heart breaks for Kym and Lorrie but also for the entire family. Everyone, hug your family a little closer and remember to tell them you love them. At the end of the day, you won’t hear people say “I wish I spent less time with my loved ones”, it’s always “I wish I had just one more day”.Please pray for them, for their peace, comfort, and strength in the days ahead. Thanks everyone!
  • My sister-in-law Kim needs prayers. Here is what she wrote concerning her Mema:“Praying for my Mema this morning who is getting ready to have back surgery. Praying that both doctors got a good nights sleep and that their hands be led by God today with no complications. Praying peace for her as having the surgery was a difficult decision considering ” who would take care of Grandaddy”. God answered that prayer and his brother is here from KY, with no date set to leave. God is good. Love you Mema!”An update is that she came out of the surgery and is doing well, so keep praying, but praises as well are in order. Thank you everyone!

If you have any prayer requests this week, please comment and include them, and thanks for praying for these! May God Bless You and Keep You, and may He guide your path, and the path of all of us, and our Country, so that we may know His Will and Direction! Amen.

Prayers for the Week – June 30, 2013

Camp Don Lee Official logo

Today I’m opening up this week’s Prayers for the Week post to all of you!  Please continue to add your prayer requests and praises to the comments section of this post so I can post them for next week, when we will be back in the swing of our Prayer request post.  For last week, we had these requests, please know that, while I didn’t comment on all of them, I was thinking of all of you that commented, and praying for you also, and will continue to do so.  I hope that this week has been a good one for all of us, today we take our daughter to her first sleep away camp for the week!

Prayer Requests…

  • My friend Stacey needs some prayers, please. Here is what she wrote:I need some prayers too, Mike. Please pray for my family. My uncle has been on life support for over a month and they have given up. Please help pray that they let him go home so he can be surrounded by his family and he can go peacefully. He is one of the best men I have ever met in my entire life!
  • Alecia has a prayer request and a praise!  Here is what she wrote:I love reading your posts, all of them. Mine is a prayer request and a praise. I have cancer and am going through chemo. I’ve been fighting since April of 2012. Please pray that God continues to give me the strength to get through each and every day.Now the praise. Thank you God for my life! Thank you for my cancer. I have gotten so much closer to my parents and family because of it. I also made a new friend through my trials. A pure and Godly woman. God, I don’t know what you have planned for me but I bet it’s awesome. Thank you for everything.
  • Another set of prayer requests comes to us from Linda.  Linda wrote that she didn’t think her requests were all that much, but Lord, it certainly sounds like they are for me.  We all know that God puts in our path only things that He knows we can handle.  Here is what Linda wrote:Prayers to you and your family. Praying for the first 2 replies as well. In comparison to the first two, my prayers seem to be less needy, but prayers are needed still. I am a single mother to a teenager and have been disabled due to a rare orphan disease that took about 5 years and 25 doctors to diagnose properly–CIDP. It is similar to MS but attacks the peripheral and autonomic nervous systems instead of the central nervous system. It leaves me with severe chronic nerve pain 24/7 all over my body. It also causes spasms of my muscles, pretty much all over my body 24/7 as well. I recently has a flare that caused more damage due to a bout of the flu. So, I am in morepain as a result too.

Additionally, I have arthritis in my back, hips, knees, ankles–most joints on my lower body due to long term undiagnosed Lyme Disease. It took 8 yrs to find out that I had a probable positive test from one of those 25 doctors to re-test and find that I had a severe long term case which left many other issues that contribute to my disability and cannot be cured at this point, but only put into remission. I pray that the remission remains as it has for the last 2 yrs. We were afraid that it had re-activated during my recent CIDP flare as my arthritis has become more painful since the flare of CIDP. Thankfully, the tests came back negative!

I have 2 surgical procedures on my spine in the upcoming month to help reduce the pain of both. I have had these surgeries many times before. But, I have a new doctor in the practice performing these surgeries as the doctor who typically performs them is unavailable. I pray for wisdom and steady hands for the doctor performing these surgeries as they are directly in my spine and have major risks is something were to go wrong.

Additionally, I have been waiting for 3 weeks for my Dept of Social Services case worker to process my paper work for Medical Assistance. I qualify for Medical Assistance every 6 months based on showing proof that a large percentage–probably close to half of it–of my income is spent on medical expenses. Once they deduct my medical expenses from my income of SSDI and Child Support, I then qualify for Medical Assistance coverage. I need this to finally be processed. I need prayers that it gets done this week.

Without approval of my Medical Assistance, I cannot have my Personal Care Aide who typically comes for 2 hrs M-F to help me shower safely, blow drys my hair for me, cooks for me and assists with light housekeeping. I paid for her out of my own income for 3 weeks figuring that I would get the money back once she was paid by Medical Assistance since once it is finally approved, it is approve back to the date it lapsed – May 1st. I cannot pay her any further. Also as a result of paying her for the 3 weeks, I cannot pay my rent for this July.

Please keep me in your prayers that my pain will reduce and my surgeries will be safe and successful, that my Medical Assistance will finally be approved so i can get my aide back and some of my major medical bills will be covered too. Finally, that somehow, the funds will come to me that I can pay my rent for July.

    Blessings to all.

Praises!

  • Lord, quite simply, the biggest praise I have is for You!  Thank you for all that you have given to me and my family, and thank you for allowing me to be of service to you!  May my life be used even more for you and your will, and less for mine.  Thank you Lord!

Prayers for the Week – Praising God!

mdod-prayers of the week

Hello my friends, and welcome to this week’s Prayers for the Week!  This week, my family and I are enjoying our vacation at Disneyland, so I don’t have a whole lot for you.  Instead, my friends, I’m lifting this post up to all of you — please comment here or on our Facebook page with all of the Praises that you have in your life, and give thanks to God for all of our Blessings! Try to remember that Praising God is a very important thing to do; so many times we give all of our concerns to God without remembering to thank Him for all of the Blessings that he has given to us.  As my Church sings in the Doxology, “Praise God from whom all blessings flow!”  In fact, enjoy this rendition of the Doxology that I found on YouTube:

I know that, unfortunately, we all have as many problems as we have praises.  God wants to hear all of our concerns, as it is written in 1Peter 5:7:

Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.

Write your concerns here, my friends.  I implore you to do so!  If you do, others will pray for you, I will pray for you, and God will hear us. In fact, it is my belief that just typing the words on your computer is, in itself, your prayer, and God hears that prayer also!

My friends, I do not pretend to know what this world has in store for us; I know that many of us suffer daily, and pray to God to free us from some of that suffering.  I do know, however, that God sent His Son Jesus to us to save us from ourselves, if we but ask Him to save us.  Have you asked Jesus into your life?  Have you confessed to Him that you are a sinner, that you see that you are, and that you need Him to forgive you so that you may be closer to Him?  If you do that, Scripture tells us that your sins will be forgiven as far as the east is from the west.  I am reminded of the wonderful words of our Lord, Jesus Christ, as written by the Apostle John in John 16:33:

“I tell you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble.  But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

I would like to close, my friends, by sharing with you one of my favorite songs of all time, sung for us by one of my favorite musical groups — Celtic Woman.  This song, You Raise Me Up, may be performed by these musicians, but my friends, let me tell you, the words, the melody, and the beauty of this song is given to us by God Himself.  Listen to it for what it is — God reaching out to us, reminding us that He will take care of us, that He will raise us up when we are down, if we but ask Him for help.  That, my friends, is my closing prayer.  Please pray along with me:

Lord, please lift us up, for all of us in some way, some form, are struggling and falling short of Your Glory.  Lord, in times of struggle, give us the thoughts, the words, even, to call out to You for help, and allow us to give ourselves over fully to You so that You would take care of us.  Starting today, Lord, please instill new hearts in all of us, hearts that are fully dependent on You.  It is in the name of Your wonderful Son Jesus that we pray with Thanksgiving, today and everyday!  Amen!
