Prayers for the Week: Happy Anniversary Cindy

Happy Anniversary Cindy

‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.’

Genesis 2:24

Happy Anniversary Cindy

My friends, my brothers and sisters-in-Christ, on this day 19 years ago, Cindy and I were married. It has been 19 years by the calendar, and 20 years that we have known each other, but I can truly say, like my brother-in-law Jerry, when asked how long I’ve been married, the correct answer is “All my life.” The simple fact is that, when God gives you into your keeping the woman that He had picked out for you from before you were even a twinkle in your parents eye — well, that is a time for rejoicing, for praising Him, and for realizing that she is just one of the countless blessings that He has granted to me, and I would be a fool if I didn’t recognize it.

My friend Tisha asked me after we had been married for a while if being married was difficult. At the time, she had not been given her soul mate, and she wanted to know what it was like. My answer to her then is the same as it is today — being married to Cindy is the absolute best decision that I’ve ever made, and being married to her is easy — except for those times when the world buts into our affairs. What I’ve learned, though, is that this isn’t entirely accurate, because those worldly interruptions have given us a better reliance on God, on trusting Him with all our heart, mind, and soul.

Before we start our prayer requests, my brothers and sisters-in-Christ, would you please pray for all of the marriages out there — those that are rooted in God’s Love, and those that aren’t; those that are strong, and those that are facing troubles; and pray for those that are no longer married or have never been married, that they would live for the fulfillment of God’s Plan in their lives, whether married or not. Thank you, my friends, those prayers work wonders, so please continue praying for those we have listed below.

Prayer Requests and Praises

  • Vickie starts us off with a prayer request: “Prayers for my cousin. They have found a tumor that is usually benign so we are believing that everything will be fine. Please cover in prayer. Thank you.”
  • We have been praying for Robin’s colleague Bill. Here is a sad update from Robin: “From Jill regarding my colleague Bill, her husband, ”This news is hard to share. The fact that it is 1:30am is indicative of how I’m handling all this.
Yesterday Bill had his appointment to have his scans at City of Hope. And to say we didn’t get good news is an understatement. The chemo isn’t working. His CEA (tumor markers) went from 25 to 80plus. The overall tumor growth is about 20%. More (albeit tiny) tumor particles were found in the lungs. There are no other traditional chemo routes left to choose from. Our only option is to look at clinical trials.
We found some hope in one that the doctor shared with us, but that won’t be “active” and available to sign up for/start for 6-7 weeks. In the meantime we will make appointments at Georgetown and National Institute of Health to see what trials they have coming up.
I have tried half a dozen times to write down my feelings relative to yesterday’s news, but I just can’t. I don’t have the words. And I’m afraid if I really start processing how I feel, I might just dissolve in pain.
For now, we’ve decided to extend our trip in CA and rent a car to go north to visit Katie and Dave and the grandkids.Maybe seeing those sweet faces of the grandkids will help heal the gaping wound in my heart.
    I love you William Turgeon.
    Thank you for praying.”
  • Jodi asks for continued prayers for her family: “Please pray for my sis-in-law, niece, and nephew today/this week, as they are moving Tatum into her college dorm. As you can imagine, doing this without her dad (my late brother) is rough. Thanks!”
  • Lori shares a praise, a Scripture, and a Witness with us: “Jeremiah 29:11 New International Version (NIV): 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans for you to prosper and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”.
Well, Happy, Happy Birthday to me! I just got the word that I will be starting a NEW JOB in 2 weeks!!!
Only 7 minutes from my house, & better pay!!!
I cannot THANK YOU all enough for the PRAYERS & SUPPORT that you have offered me. The last 5 years (exactly!) have been a roller coaster (with mostly downs) ever since my ex-husband (of 16 years) walked out the door on my birthday 5 years ago and left me to pack and sell the house, refused to negotiate with me & would only go through the attorneys ($$$’s!); and I might add that he made ME be the one to file for the divorce!
Praying that streak is over! Thank you all!”
  • Sheila has a prayer request for us: “Please add my Architect, Don, to your prayer list he was recently diagnosed with Kidney Cancer. Don is scheduled for surgery on 8.8.2019. Will keep you posted please pray.”
  • Lastly, please continue praying for the families of those affected in the El Paso and Dayton shootings, as well as for all of our nation, our leaders of all political parties, and all of those that are afraid to ask for prayer. Please continue praying with us the prayer that Jesus taught us to pray:

Our Father, who art in Heaven
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not in temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the Kingdom, and Power, and Glory
Forever and ever.
Amen.

Prayers for the Week: Do Not Be Anxious

Do Not Be Anxious

Do Not Be Anxious

‘”Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. ‘

Matthew 6:25-34

Hello everyone, and welcome to today’s Prayers for the Week post. This has been a hard week for so many of our friends on our prayer lists, and our prayers for them will continue. You can see the complete list we have below, and we love and appreciate all of your prayers each day. As I was preparing this post last night, I had a bit of a struggle in finding exactly what Scripture I wanted to share with you. My wife and I have been reading through the Bible chronologically this year, and I think that we are getting to a point, some 215 days in, where it’s getting hard. Not that we don’t like reading Scripture, I believe we both do, it’s just that we’ve been reading daily all year. I’m not making sense, but the point I’m failing to make is that I was having trouble coming up with verses to share. So I turned to my paper ESV Bible, as opposed to looking at the app, and God directed me first to Job, I was thinking of Job 19:25 “For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth.” and I really like that, but I didn’t feel led to pick it out. So I started thinking about the book of Mark, which the Bible Study I’m attending starting next month is doing a two year study of Mark, but didn’t get a sense of what to write there either. Lastly, I turned to the book of Matthew, and was led to Matthew 6, which you see above.

All of a sudden, the Holy Spirit was telling me that, as hard as it is for Jodi and her family, and for Jennifer and her family, and for Lori’s friends Rex and Barbara, and on and on and on, despite all of the pain they are going through, I know that God wanted them to hear that Scripture. So my friends, please keep praying, as the Apostle Paul wrote, “Pray without ceasing…”, and for all of us out here in this crazy, mixed up world, remember the words of Jesus: “Do not be anxious“.

Now, my friends, please join me in praying for our prayer requests and praises.

Prayer Requests & Praises

  • Please keep praying for Laurel’s friend Becky. Here’s the latest update: “They had to increase her oxygen intake as they are concerned about pneumonia. She did open her eyes briefly when prompted. They will do more neurological test Monday and an ECG . Please keep lifting her in our prayers

  • Leslie also has a prayer request for an Army friend of hers: “An Army friend of mine needs some prayers. He’s in Afghanistan now and 2 soldiers from his unit were just killed in action. He has a wife (also Active Duty) and 2 young daughters stateside. He’s only been deployed for 2 weeks.

Omar has asked us to pray for his father that he gets better and that God pushes him in the right direction, whatever that might be.”

  • We were praying for Jodi’s brother Tom. Sadly for us, the Lord called Tom home on the 27th. His funeral was this past Wednesday. Please keep their family and friends surrounded in prayer for God’s Peace, Comfort, Strength, and Love to surround them all, especially Tom’s wife Vicki, son Clayton, and daughter Tatum.

Our Father, who art in Heaven
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not in temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the Kingdom, and Power, and Glory
Forever and ever.
Amen.

Prayers for the Week: No More Tears

No More Tears

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

Revelation 21:3-5

My friends, welcome to today’s Prayers for the Week post. Our Scripture for today comes from what I posted as the Daily Scripture yesterday, and I felt it important enough to recall it today for our reading. As a reminder, if you want to receive a daily scripture for you to keep you engaged in the Word, click on the link.

Brothers and Sisters of the one true God, and followers of His Son, Jesus Christ, the words of the book of Revelation will come to pass. There will be a day when there will be no more tears, when God will establish a New Heaven and a New Earth, and there will be no more death, pain, and suffering. Sadly, though, we have not reached that time just yet.

That is why the work of Believers is so important. There is death, there is loss, there is pain, and there are tears; perhaps as much this week as we have seen in quite a long time. It is the Commandment of Jesus that we spread His message throughout the world; I pray that this small ministry is helping to accomplish His goal: to make disciples throughout the world.

Until that time when Jesus returns, though, we will have sadness, and we will have tears, and we will have pain and suffering. My heart breaks for my Sister Jodi on the passing of her brother; and my heart breaks for my Brother Richard on the passing of his best friend Chris. But I know that there will be a day when Jesus will wipe away our tears, and brothers and sisters, just imagine what a day that will be!

Until that day, though, we continue on, and we remember those we have lost with love, and we pray for those that are going through struggles. Will you join me please in praying for our prayer requests and praises?

Prayer Requests & Praises

  • Lori starts us off with a prayer request: “Please put Barbara Morgan in your prayers. She is the mother of my good friend, Rex. It was so very hard for him to transfer her to hospice this morning. Rex is such a good man. Please blanket their family in prayers for a peaceful transition as Barbara enters the Kingdom of our Lord.”
  • As I mentioned above, please pray for my Sister-in-Christ Jodi and all of her family over the loss of her brother Tom. In particular, please pray for Tom’s wife Vicki, son Clayton, and daughter Tatum.
  • Also please pray for the family and friends of Chris Jordan, who passed away from cancer. Please pray for God’s Peace, Comfort, Strength, and Love to surround them all in their time of grief.
  • Please pray for Samantha and her husband, that they would have a breakthrough on a job that he is pursuing.
  • Laurel has a prayer request for her friend Becky: “Asking for prayers for a very dear friend Becky. She had a brain aneurism and a heart attack yesterday . She had surgery last night and it is touch and go.”
  • Thank you for praying for my Dad. He had surgery this past Wednesday, I had safe travels up and back and he had a great result. Please pray for his recovery.
  • Lynn has a prayer request: “A couple of weeks ago I asked for prayers for my dad as he may have prostate cancer. Yesterday he got his biopsy results. He has an aggressive form of prostrate cancer. The next step is to get a full body CT scan and an X-ray of his bladder. If the cancer has not spread, he will have 9 weeks radiation, 5 days a week. If cancer has spread, not sure what they will do yet. Please keep him and my family on your prayer list. Cancer is something new to our family and never had to fight cancer before. We are genuinely a healthy family and live up in our 90s and even 100 years.”
  • Jodi has another prayer request, this one for her friend Amanda: “Please pray for my friend Amanda as she undergoes major back surgery today. Thank you! Also, another one without insurance, so please also pray for provision.”
  • We had a prayer request for Cheri a couple of months back for a legal situation. We have a praise report from Cheri as well as a request for continued prayers. Here is what she wrote us this week: “I wanted to give a THANK YOU for the prayers. While my legal case isn’t over, we had a huge victory today! Would appreciate continued prayers for a swift conclusion in what should be this final step. #gracealwayswins
  • Sheila has an update on her friend Liz and her breast cancer treatments. Here is what she wrote: “Hey Prayer Warriors please keep up the good work of prayer! Liz has 2 more Chemotherapeutic sessions her last one being September 11. She said she is very thankful for all of the prayers they have kept her going! Keep up the good work.”
  • Lastly, please keep praying for all of those that don’t know how to ask, and for those prayer requests that are unspoken. God hears all of them, and He hears our prayers for them as well.

PFTW: The Way, The Truth, and The Life

Truth

The Way, The Truth, and The Life

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

John 14:6-7

Hello everyone, and thank you for stopping by today for our Prayers for the Week post. Two weeks ago our post was titled “Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled” and we were focusing on the first four verses of the 14th chapter in the book of John. Those well versed in Scripture will recognize that today we are continuing in that chapter, with the sixth and seventh verses.

John 14:6 is one of my favorite verses in all of the Bible, in part because it tells us so clearly how we approach God. We do so by coming to Jesus. If you believe that the Bible is the Word of God, then John 14:6 tells us in very clear terms who Jesus is. Jesus is the way, and the truth, and the life. More importantly perhaps than even that is that no one comes to the Father except through me. And even better, if you know Jesus, then you know the Father as well.

My friends, the problems of this world really come down to one thing in my humble opinion. The fact is that this world has for the most part turned it’s collective back on God, and by extension, Jesus, and instead, has put it’s lot in with the evil one, Satan.

There will come a time when God will call for a reckoning on what we believe. Do you believe that Jesus is the Son of God, that God sent His only Son down to the earth in the form of a man, that He died on the Cross after living a sinless life as a payment for all of our sins? And do you believe that He was resurrected from the dead on the third day, and that He is going to come back to earth a second time? If you believe that, then you will be saved. If you don’t believe that yet, well, you may come to believe it one day. However, if you die without believing that, then you will be separated from God for all eternity, and you will not reach Heaven.

because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Romans 10:9

My friends, it really comes down to that one verse. If you believe that, and believe it in your heart, not just speaking the words, then you will be saved. I urge all of you that are unsure about all of this to reach out to someone you trust that is a Christian and ask them. If you don’t know anyone, then reach out to me. You can do so by leaving a comment below, or by joining our Prayers for the Week Facebook group. Now, please continue reading and join us in praying for our prayer requests and praises below.

Prayer Requests & Praises

  • We start off with Jodi. She has had a big time prayer request for her brother Tom: “Here’s the latest on Tom: They have gotten almost all the fluid drained. Did 2nd echo yesterday to check the valve that they suspected of leaking. It looks OK and does not need further surgery at this point. He is still on ventilator, but only using the full mask overnight. Today is the first day with just the nose tube. Ken (my other brother–who had a heart attack 4 years ago) said Tom’s been sitting upright in his chair and is awake and alert! Still in cardiac ICU for foreseeable future. (Btw, Tom turned 51 on Sunday. Our dad died from a heart attack at 59, after a quintuple bypass a few years earlier and stroke before that. His dad, my grandfather, died from a heart attack on the same day, 12 hours later, after at least 2 prior attacks. All 3 of my dad’s brothers have also had heart attacks. I’m sure all this, and especially the age correlation, is weighing on Tom too.)”
    • Earlier, we had these updates: “URGENT!! My sis-in-law’s friend is sending updates for her. My brother is not doing well.
(This is reina for Vicki) Tom needs your prayers, they are not seeing any improvement, having problems stabilizing his breathing. Vicki is is back with him trying to help calm him. He can’t have any visitors at this time. We are asking for prayers. We will keep you updated as soon as we can.”
    • Another update: “Please continue prayers for my brother Tom! 1 artery had 100% blockage. He received two stents. He is in ICU having difficulty breathing.”
    • This is the original request: “Please pray for my brother Tom! Yesterday, he turned 51; today, he’s being admitted to the hospital. He has pneumonia on the entire left side, and they’re screening for a possible blood clot. The ER he is in right now has administered meds, but they are trying to find a hospital with availability to admit him. He’s in the Dallas area. Thank you!”
    • The reason I’m giving all of this detail is because it shows how much God works in our lives. It actually turned out that Tom had a heart attack on July 4th and didn’t realize it, and that is what led to all of this. So on top of our prayers for Tom’s healing, we are also giving huge Praises to God for looking after him until he received the help he needed! God is Good, my friends! Tom is just one example of how Good He is!
  • We had a prayer request for Stephanie’s grandson James last week. This week we have an update on his condition: “James was finally moved out of ICU!! His temperature has stayed down, so hopefully he’s on his way to a full recovery!! Thank you for the continued prayers!!!”
  • Please pray for our brother Don — he had a medical condition recently, and he’s fine but he’ll be on medication now as a result. Please pray for him and that he doesn’t have any additional occurrences of this.
  • Bridget has a prayer request for her son: “Please remember my son as he starts a new job tomorrow.”
  • Jennifer has a prayer request: “Please pray for my family as I am ill and have ALS. Please pray that I’m not a burden to them and they can survive spiritually and economically. Please pray that they can find peace in God because their hearts are restless.”
    • Please pray hard for Jennifer and her family and friends. There is so much tragedy in her statement. She is married and has a 12 year old daughter.
  • Please pray for my travel this week. I’m traveling to Virginia on Tuesday, please pray that I would have safe travels.
  • Also, my dad has lung surgery on Wednesday. Please pray for him, for his medical team, and for my Mom and family. Please pray that God would guide the hands of the medical team, and that He would give him complete healing and an easy recovery.
  • Remember, if anyone wants to join our Daily Scripture group, just click the link.
  • Lastly, please pray for any unspoken prayer requests. Pray for those we don’t know and that God would hear their prayers.

Now, please join us in praying the prayer that Jesus taught us to pray:

Our Father, who art in Heaven
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not in temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the Kingdom, and Power, and Glory
Forever and ever.
Amen.

Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.”

John 14:1-4

Hello everyone, and welcome to this week’s Prayers for the Week post. There are a lot of things to pray for this week, and several have had loved ones pass away, so today I was drawn to John 14:1-4 for words of comfort from our Lord and Savior, Jesus. Friends, isn’t in amazing all of the places in the Bible that God points out words of comfort to us for when we are facing tribulation of some sort? Sadly, to the non-believer, things like that seems foolish to them, and they are not capable of understanding how we could draw comfort from the words in a book that was written two thousand years ago. Pray for those that aren’t saved, my friends, pray that they would develop a curiosity to know the truth more, to know what the real Truth is, and Who is the author of that Truth. Pray that they would put aside their skepticism just a little bit and ask someone why we believe what we believe.

If you find yourself curious to learn more about who this Jesus is and why He is so important, reach out to us. Start here with a prayer post that includes the sinner’s prayer for salvation.

Now, please pray with us on our prayer requests and praises.

Please pray for her family, especially her husband and her two children in their time of grief. Thanks everyone!
  • From my Dad, Joe: “That Black Lab & Treeing Walker Coonhound arrived in his forever home full of attitude and convinced he was ‘alpha’. Yes, Spike was a handful in the beginning, but he became calm and submissive, indeed he became Spike the Wonder Dog! After nearly eight years here in his forever home, he crossed over the Rainbow Bridge, even as Ellie and I witnessed a beautiful rainbow while driving home from the Vet’s office. Rest in Peace Ole Graybeard, you will live forever in our hearts and minds, you were indeed a Wonder Dog! Joe & Ellie. Spike Jan. 6, 2007 – July 2, 2019.” Please pray for my parents in their loss of Spike.
  • Also, my Dad will be having a procedure in the coming weeks to remove cancer from his lung. The surgeon believes it to be about 1 1/2 inches long that needs to be removed. Please pray for him, his medical team, and my Mom and family during this time. The date is TBD. Thanks!
  • Jodi has a prayer request: “My sister’s father-in-law passed away last night after 7 months battling lung cancer. It will be a very hard loss on the family. Please pray for them! Thank you so much!”
