Peter Pan’s Flight — a classic Disney attraction that we absolutely love to ride at Walt Disney World in the Magic Kingdom!  As a result, we have selected Peter Pan’s Flight as our choice for day 4 in our countdown to Disneyland! This attraction is, like the one at Walt Disney World, located in Fantasyland, but when I look at the site page for it at the Disneyland website, it looks like there are some differences between the two versions of the ride.  Is this true?

Peter Pan’s Flight is one of the opening day attractions that existed at Disneyland when it opened on July 17, 1955.  In addition to Peter Pan’s Flight, here are the other attractions that were open on opening day that are still open today:

Of the opening day attractions, what is your favorite?  Also, of the ones that have been added since opening day, what is your favorite?  Think about it, and let me know in the comments below, or on our Facebook page, and thanks for stopping by!

Sophie’s Favorite Disney Attractions!

Splash Mountain

Hello everyone, this is Mike from My Dreams of Disney, and starting today, I’ve got a unique treat for you!  I’ll be interviewing my daughter Sophie to find out her favorites on a wide variety of Disney topics!  This week, to kick us off, we are going to find out Sophie’s Favorite Disney Attractions!  The lineup so far is like this:

  • Today, Sophie’s Favorite Disney Attractions!
  • Next week, Sophie’s Favorite Disney Characters!
  • The following week, Sophie’s Favorite Disney Reservation Dinners!
  • Lastly, Sophie’s Favorite Disney Memories!

So, without further ado, here is Sophie’s top 10 list of her favorite Disney attractions!

  1. Splash Mountain
    1. Sophie likes this most of all because it’s like going through the whole story of Song of the South, which is what the ride is based off of.
  2. Mickey’s PhilharMagic
    1. Like her old man, Sophie loves the scenes of Donald passing through the different classic Disney movies.  She especially likes Luminare singing “Be our Guest” because she loves the smell of the food!
  3. Haunted Mansion
    1. This attraction up on the list is great because it’s so much fun!  In the audio recording there is a story Sophie told about how her and her cousin’s heads were switched around by the Hitchhiking Ghosts!
  4. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin!
    1. Help defeat the evil Zurg!
  5. Tomorrowland Transit Authority (TTA) PeopleMover!
    1. I like it because it gives you a full tour of Tomorrowland, even though it goes through Space Mountain, an attraction I don’t like!
  6. Jungle Cruise
    1. I like it because it really feels like you’re seeing the jungles of Africa, and the world famous “backside of water!”
  7. Enchanted Tiki Room
    1. Sophie loves the singing birds!  Also, she loves it as the old style better then when it was Under New Management!
  8. Dumbo the Flying Elephant!
    1. I like it because you get to see Timothy up in the center and you get to control how it’s flying!
  9. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh!
    1. It’s cute seeing Pooh, and you can actually smell the honey when he’s collecting it!  I also like the Hephalump room, although one time she got a bloody nose in this room.
  10. The Hall of Presidents
    1. Sophie likes this, but there is one President she doesn’t like — but she’ll keep that to herself.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad — perhaps it’s been elevated to number 10 now? :)
  • Carousel of Progress — number 12 on the list!
  • Peter Pan’s Flight — I like it, but the line is so long sometimes! {Editor’s Note: Eta Pravda translates from Russian to “This is True.”}
  • It’s a Small World — number 13 on the list!  Love the singing characters!

Sophie’s Favorite Disney Attractions

Our Favorites: Peter Pans Flight!

"My Dreams of Disney","Peter Pans Flight","Magic Kingdom"

When it comes to the attractions at Walt Disney World, especially at the Magic Kingdom, there are few rides that compare with the excitement we get when we ride Peter Pans Flight, which is located in Fantasyland.  With Peter Pans Flight, you get it all — a great trip into the classic story of Peter Pan, your own flying galleon to sail off into the night sky with, and a swashbuckling adventure!

It always amazes me that the Imagineers were able to make such a realistic attraction.  From the moment you take off, the use of forced perspective makes it seem as if you are truly flying!  Of course, the Imagineers did create the ride so that your galleon is suspended from a track over your head, which certainly does make it easier to feel like you are flying!

Disney did a great job with this attraction because you are able to navigate through several different scenes in the story, including the one that includes the mermaids!

Peter Pan is a crowd favorite at Walt Disney World, that’s for sure!  Fortunately, there are fast pass tickets available, but they do go fast, so make sure you grab yours or you’ll be waiting until 10PM to ride the attraction!  One thing I am hopeful will make a difference is that the folks at Disney are redoing the queue area for Peter Pans Flight.  They are turning it into an interactive queue is what I’ve heard, so hopefully that will help with some of the line issues they have experienced with the attraction.

Peter Pans Flight is a family favorite of ours, so much so that my wife Cindy indicated that it would be one of the things she would do if she had an extra three hours in the park by herself — she would ride Peter Pans Flight with Peter Pan himself!

What does your family think of Peter Pans Flight?  Why not answer the poll below and let me know, and thanks for stopping by!

Magic Kingdom — Liberty Square

The Liberty Bell replica, located in Liberty Square at the Magic Kingdom

Liberty Square is located in the Magic Kingdom, just west of the wheel hub, and just down from Peter Pan’s Flight and “it’s a small world” in Fantasyland.  Liberty Square is one of my favorite lands, not so much because of all of the attractions, but rather because of all of the history that the Disney Imagineers have imparted into the land.

While Liberty Square isn’t home to a whole lot of attractions, it is home to some of the best attractions in the Magic Kingdom.  Here they are in alphabetical order:

As a land, though, Liberty Square is so much more than a pass through to Frontierland or Adventureland.  The Haunted Mansion is so much fun that we ride it multiple times each time we visit.  The Hall of Presidents is a history lesson — but with the fun of all of the Presidential Audio-Animatronics® thrown in for good measure.  The Liberty Square Riverboat is a relaxing ride on the Rivers of America when all you want is a break from all of the walking you have done that day.

In addition to the attractions, you also have some prime restaurants.  Liberty Tree Tavern has a great menu, the only thing I don’t like about it is that they took it off of the “Character Dining” menu.  Columbia Harbour House is a seldom thought of quick service restaurant that often has very little wait, yet serves good food.  And don’t forget about “Ye Old Christmas Shoppe”, one of the best Christmas stores you will ever find!

As is often the case with my writing, pictures say so much more than I can.  Please enjoy some of these pictures!  The next time you visit the Magic Kingdom, take time to look at all of the little details that make Liberty Square a living, breathing history lesson in the middle of Disney Magic!

“Liberty Belle”

These three pictures are so cool to me, with the lights and fireworks reflected in the Rivers of America!

The Liberty Square is more than The Haunted Mansion®, more than The Hall of Presidents, more than the Liberty Tree Tavern.  Liberty Square is a reminder for all Americans of the blood, sweat, and tears that have been shed to make our country great.
