Prayers for the Week – God Has a Plan

Psalms 37:5

3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. 4 Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. 6 He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday. 7 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices! ~ Psalms 37:3-7 (ESV)

Hello my Brothers and Sisters, and welcome to this week’s Prayers for the Week post.  Today we’re delving into the plan that God has for our lives.  Do you ever doubt that God has a plan for your life?  If you do, I hope and pray that the Psalmist’s words will answer that doubt in you.  This Psalm is attributed to King David, a man who knew God very well during his life.

This past Friday, of course, was the 9/11 Anniversary, and if there is ever a day for not understanding why things happen, it was that day.  However, out of that incredible tragedy, that horror, the untold death and destruction came literally thousands of stories of one person putting themselves in a position to help someone else, a total stranger.  In fact, there were even stories of dogs helping out their owners and those they don’t even know during this time.  If you haven’t heard the story of Bretagne, go click the link and check it out.

Out of all that, what I’m getting at is that, as hard as it can be to do at times, we need to remember that God has a plan for us, and He will take care of us, if we just let Him.  Now, please continue reading and pray with us on our Prayer Requests and Praises.

Colossians 3

Prayers for the Week – Colossians 3!

Colossians 3

Hello everyone, and welcome to this week’s Prayers for the Week post.  Today we are delving into the third chapter of the book of Colossians.  There is so much incredible Scripture for us to explore in this one chapter, that I have chosen three verses to share with you.  Starting off is Colossians 3:2-3 (ESV):

2Set your mind on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. ~ Colossians 3:2-3 (ESV)

I’ll admit, my friends, this week has been kind of hard, particularly from a work perspective.  On Monday I learned that one of my friends, one of my good co-workers, is leaving to take a new job.  Our organization is in a bit of turmoil right now because of many different factors, and my friends leaving hit a little hard after I had time to settle down and absorb all it meant.  That thought, of our work lives, leads me to my next verse from Colossians 3:

Colossians 3

15And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body.  And be thankful ~ Colossians 3:15 (ESV)

My friends, I’ll readily admit that this week, I didn’t have nearly enough peace in my heart — or perhaps more importantly, I didn’t have nearly enough Peace in my Heart.  That has changed, though.  Lastly, here is the final selection of Scripture I would like to share with you:

Colossians 3

23Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. ~ Colossians 3:23-24 (ESV)

My friends, it dawned on me this week that while I work at my job, and I serve my supervisors, and they instruct me on the path they want me to take for this task or that task, in the end, it is my Lord Jesus Christ — my ultimate Supervisor, my Savior — that is who I really report to, and that is the standard that I must hold myself to as much as it humanly possible.  My friends, when I remembered that, the Peace of God, that singular feeling that is unlike anything else I have ever experienced nor ever will in this life — the Peace of God came streaming into me, and I found my cares, my anxiety, my doubts, my fears — they all disappeared.  I hope that you are experiencing the same feeling that I am.  Now, please take time and read and pray and give praise for our prayer requests and praises.  Thank you everyone!

Prayer Requests and Praises…

  • My friend Chelsea has a prayer request. Here is what she wrote:I’ve been running a 101-102 fever for two days now and believe I have an ear infection. If you could pray that the antibiotics work and that it’s an ear infection and not something I can pass to the rest of my family. Please pray for healing for her and that she she doesn’t pass it along to her family. Thanks everyone!
  • Please pray for my friend Tim. Here is what he wrote:My stepfather was taken back to the hospital yesterday, he had a stroke. Just got home from seeing him and I’m not sure what to think. I’m very worried for Charlie and very much so for my Mother, who has been my rock over the last few years. Their 20th anniversary is next week, I pray they get to share it together. It’s my turn to be my Mom’s rock. Please keep my family in your thoughts. Please pray healing prayers for Tim’s stepfather, and prayers for him Mom and the rest of his family as well. Pray for God’s Peace, Comfort, Strength, and Love to descend upon all of them as they strive for his health to improve. Thanks everyone!
  • Please continue your prayers for my friend Sheila’s friend Kitty.  Keep her close and pray for God’s Healing touch on her.  Also please pray for Peace, Comfort, and Strength for all of her family and friends.
  • Please pray for my cousin Brenda on the passing of her father.  Here is what she wrote:
Heaven gained another angel this morning. my dad has passed away. I love and miss you so much. Give KJ lots of love for me. R.I.P. Dad
  • Please pray for my friend Sylvia on the passing of her dad too.  Prayer helps, so please keep praying for her and Brenda in their time of need.
  • Please pray for the brother of my friend Debra, who broke his hip after a fall.  He also battles an addiction to alcohol, so please pray for him on that regard also.
  • Please pray for my Dad as he travels to Massachusetts later this week.  It’s been over a year since my Uncle (his oldest brother) passed away.  Please pray for Dad’s Peace on this journey.
  • Please give praise to my Mom as she celebrated her birthday a couple of days ago.  She is doing well, so give praise to God for that as well.  Thanks everyone.
  • Please pray for the family of Tricia Roos, who is pregnant, but whose baby has trisomy 18, a chromosome disorder so bad that doctors recommended terminating the pregnancy. Roos chose to keep her baby. She’s only at the beginning of her journey, and they will need much, much prayer to face the days ahead.
  • Please pray for Sami Caulberg and her Mom.  Sami is fighting Ewing’s Sarcoma, and she recently lost her father to cancer.  Please pray for Sami and her Mom Lynn, and if you live in the Raleigh area, consider signing up for a 5K run or walk to benefit her and her mom.  For more information, please check out the Facebook Page for the race.
  • Lastly, congratulations and praise to my friend Doug for his new job.  We’re going to miss him, but he is well deserving of it.

Before I close, I want to take a moment and share with you a video that always touches my heart and soul.  Being a PBS person, I’ve seen this at work many times, and I have it on my playlist in the car, but the video is even better.  Enjoy:

Now, my friends, I hope you enjoyed that. Please pray with me the prayer that Jesus taught us to pray:

Our Father, who art in Heaven
Hallowed by Thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done,
On earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our Trespasses,
As we forgive those who Trespass against us.

Lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory,
Forever and ever. Amen.

Disney Dreams from Theresa!

Walt Disney World, Magic Kingdom, Cinderella Castle

Cinderella’s Castle in the Magic Kingdom is one of my very favorite places on Earth.

Our new writer Theresa!

{My Dreams of Disney would like to welcome Theresa, one of our new writers, and thank her for her post today!  This is her introductory post, so make sure you say hi and make her feel welcome!  Thanks!}

Hello everyone! First and foremost, I want to say thank you to Mike for setting up this wonderful site and allowing me to be a part of it. Since you are here, I am guessing that either you are a Disney fan or are curious and want more Disney in your life. I know Mike has worked hard getting this going and you are probably asking yourself who’s this new person and why should I care about anything she has to say?

Please let me begin by telling you a bit about myself. My name is Theresa and I LOVE Walt Disney World. In fact, much of my free time is spent thinking about it. If I’m not actually at Disney World, I am either planning my next trip or reliving the memories of a previous trip. I have been to Disney World 16 times and am in my countdown phase for my next trip (in February of 2013). I have stayed both “on property” as well as hotels near Disney World and have opinions and thoughts about on property vs. off property stays. Also, I am a “details” person and therefore tend to notice things others don’t usually notice and am always happy to share those tidbits of information.

My friends and family have often said I am such a Disney fan, I should work for Disney. To be honest, I did apply to work in Disney World and given that I have an Associate’s degree in Hospitality Management, I would have been a good fit. In fact, I was offered a job as soon as I was able to get myself moved to Orlando and settled in. In the long run, I decided that I couldn’t be that far away from my family and my daughters were settled here in Massachusetts (where I live). I felt that it would be selfish of me to uproot their lives for my dream. That being said, I am the “Disney” expert that people turn to for trip planning and any Disney World related questions.

I am looking forward to sharing my thoughts with you. If there is something specific you would like to know about, please feel free to leave comments at any time. I will try to answer them quickly; if an answer is in-depth, I will probably base a post on it. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you in the future.

The Power of a $100 Disney Gift Card

I have been astounded by the depth of the comments that people have been leaving with regards to our Disney Gift Card contest.  While I know that there are entries being made with each and every comment, it still has surprised me how many people have taken the time to write true, deep reasons why they want to win the gift card.  I only wish that I could give a gift card to each and every one of them.  That would be Disney Magic at it’s best.  Today, I thought I would take some time to highlight some of the comments that have stood out to me.

Eva wrote:

I would save the gift card for our next trip.We had to cancel our Dec trip because I have to have 2 surgeries :(

Eva, I hope that your surgeries are successful!  I’ll include you in my prayers!

Lisa wrote:

I would put this towards a trip my husband and I are planning for next Fall in order to take my parents for their very first visit! I’m graduating college in May, and with living expenses so high in Massachusetts, it sure would help us out :)

Lisa, congratulations on your upcoming graduation!  How exciting that you are taking your parents for their first trip!

Stephanie writes:

We’re surprising our kids and my baby sister with a trip to WDW in November. I’d get them some more stuff for their tote bags!

How exciting, Stephanie!  I love springing trips on my daughter!  Have fun!

Kim writes:

I know what I would do with that card! We are going to WDW in November to celebrate our 22 anniversary, our DD getting married and moving in with her new DH and my 43rd birthday! My birthday is October 8, the day the raffle ends, so it would be perfect to win the card to take on our trip! I’d use it for some awesome souvenirs!

Happy upcoming birthday Kim!  So many great events happening in your life, congratulations on all of them!

Melissa writes:

I would LOVE to win this! I am a Christmas fanatic and Disney fanatic… put them together and you have one deliriously happy lady haha! I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have some spending money to shop with…. fingers crossed!!!

Good luck to you, Melissa!  I’ve never been at Christmas, it’s on my bucket list too!

Lastly, Adrienne writes:

I would buy as many Mickey ice cream bars as my heart desired on our 2013 trip! Is that selfish not to share?

Adrienne, my wife agrees with you!  Have one for her!

These are just a very small sample of the currently 244 comments that have been left for the contest!  Have you entered to win yet?  If not, make sure you do!  Just complete the requirements below, and good luck to everyone who has entered!
