God of Hope

Prayers for the Week: the God of Hope

God of Hope

The God of Hope

Hello everyone, and thank you for joining us today for our Prayers for the Week post. Today we are sharing with you a special passage of Scripture, Romans 15:13. Here is the Word of God for you:

‘May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.’

Romans 15:13

Today, we send these words out to the friends and family of Amie Miller, a young child of God who was called home to Jesus sooner than we wanted her to be. I never had the pleasure to meet her, but my friend Kristin told us about her in our prayer group, and we joined her and countless others in praying for Amie and her family. While we grieve with her parents, family, and friends over her passing, we also celebrate with them in knowing that Jesus has her in His arms, and that He has taken away her illness and healed her body from all sickness.

My friends, while I don’t know Amie’s parents, I can relate in some ways with them. You see, Amie passed away on Sophie’s 18th birthday. While Sophie has had a healthy upbringing aside from her Asperger’s and her ADHD, Sophie was born 7 weeks early, and when she was born, neither Cindy nor I knew what the outcome would be. However, I had God’s Peace — that Peace that transcends understanding — upon my heart while she was being born, and I knew that she would be okay. That was a very powerful reminder that our God is the God of Hope.

Brothers and Sisters in Christ, let me remind you that our God is the God of Hope, and we find that in Romans 15:13 and throughout the Bible. It’s important that we remember that, because if we forget it, then it becomes that much easier for Satan to infiltrate our lives and distract us from our true calling. Remember, our true calling is to praise God and His Son, Jesus, and to spread His message of salvation for all of those that need to hear it. If we don’t do that, we are ignoring Jesus’ commandment to us in the Great Commission. We must always be ready to share that wonderful news, especially in today’s world.

Now, please join us in praying with us in our Prayer Requests and Praises.

Prayer Requests & Praises

  • Cindy’s friend Linda is traveling to Ohio to visit with her Mom, who is in a skilled nursing facility and is fading quickly. Please pray for Linda and her husband as they travel and for Peace, Comfort, and Strength to surround them all in these final days before she is called Home. She is a Christian so she knows where she is going. Thanks everyone!
  • This was the prayer request from Kristin that shared the wonder of Amie with us: “I need prayers for a friend’s family. Their daughter has a rare chromosome condition like my son. She has heart surgery two days ago and it did not go well. Last night they told her mom that they would have to amputate both legs. Then this morning, they told her that the arythmias that her heart was having damaged every organ in her body. They are having to let her go. The surgery was supposed to allow her to be a normal 12 year old girl again. Please pray for her parents.”
  • Hey Everyone, Cindy’s cousin Debbie has a prayer request. Her boyfriend Mark is having back surgery today, it’s his second surgery for his back. Please pray for God’s Healing Touch on him, as well as for God to guide the medical team, and for Peace, Comfort, and Strength for Mark and for all of them. Thanks everyone!
  • Remember to pray for our list of prayer requests from last week’s post.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in Heaven
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not in temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the Kingdom, and Power, and Glory
Forever and ever.
Amen.

The Great Commission

16Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” ~ Matthew 28:16-20 (ESV)

Good morning everyone, and Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mothers out there this morning! Welcome to the return of our weekly Prayers for the Week posts here on My Dreams of Disney! Our last post in this series was November 5, 2017, but I’ve been feeling a call from God lately to bring back these posts and lift up prayer around the world. Each week, we are going to focus on what you need us to pray for. Know that in your requests, we will lift you up for God’s Peace, Strength, Comfort, and Love to surround you all, that His Will would be done, and that His Healing Touch would descend upon you.

In Matthew 28, the last verses of the book of Matthew are where Jesus gives us the commandment that is known as the Great Commission. Believers are instructed to make disciples of all nations, and teaching them from the Bible. In addition to that, Jesus reminds us that He is with us always, until the end of the age. How reassuring are those words!

It is because of this command that I have started back up our prayers for the week posts. How can we pray for you? Leave us comments below and let us know, and we will highlight them in next week’s prayer post. In the meantime, please pray for these requests and lift up our praises to God.

Prayer Requests & Praises

  • Deb asks for prayers for her son Steve, who is going through cancer treatments; in addition, he is facing difficulties at work. Please lift them all up in prayer.

  • Please pray for all of the students that are going through or are about to go through their final exams. Pray that their knowledge would see them through the tests.
  • Pray for everyone that is looking for employment please; whether they be a father looking to feed their family, a single person trying to make it on their own, a student looking for summer employment, or anyone else. Thank you.
  • Give praise to God today, for giving you life for another day; for putting the people in your life that love you and that you love; for giving you health, or if you are struggling with your health, for giving you the opportunity to improve it; and for helping us turn our focus to Him instead of to all of the evil in this world. For these and a million other reasons, give thanks to God today.
  • Give Praise and thanks to God for your Mom; thank Him for giving her to be your Mom, and tell her you love her. Call her or visit if she is still with you, but think of her anyway even if she is already in Heaven. She’s still watching you, regardless of where she is.

Prayers for the Week – The Great Commission

The Great Commission

Hello my friends, and welcome to this week’s Prayers for the Week post.  Last week, Cindy, Sophie and I went to Virginia to celebrate our niece Kennedy’s first birthday!  As part of the weekend, we also went to Stephanie and Shane’s new church in Middletown, the First Baptist Church of Middletown.  We had never been before, but the hospitality we received there was very gracious, and quite humbling to us.  During his sermon, Pastor Mike Blitch spoke on what we Christians are called to do in our daily lives — and front and center, our focus needs to be on witnessing to others, to make disciples of Jesus Christ throughout all the lands.  In Theology speak, I know of that as the Great Commission, as illustrated in Matthew 28:16-20.  Let’s read it together here:

16Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” ~ Matthew 28:16-20 (ESV)

My friends, it is as simple and clear as that.  We are to go out and share with them the love that Jesus has for them, and to remind them that He loves them just like He loves us.  I do this somewhat through these prayer posts, but that isn’t enough.  I’ve got to be better at witnessing to others throughout the day, each and every day, not just on Sunday mornings when this posts or when I’m at church.  To help in that, I’m taking with me everywhere I go a special journal that is for prayer requests.  Here are the prayers that are needed from that book.  If you need prayer, please let us know so that we can pray for you also.

  • For Phil and his mysterious ailment.

Prayers for Peace

  • For Sophie
  • For Robin
  • For Jim
  • For Sherry
  • For Sebastian
  • For Holly
  • For Aunt Saundra

Prayers for our Enemies

  • For those that act foolishly without giving consideration to how it will impact others.
  • For those that would cause harm to others.
  • For terrorists that they would see the folly of their ways and repent.
  • For those that speak unkind words without thinking about the harm they may have on others.
  • For bullies, who need to know that their behavior is not correct, but who also need to be loved.

Prayers for the Lost

  • A special prayer for those that do not know Jesus, for those that haven’t been saved, for those that don’t realize that not choosing either for or against Jesus is the same as not choosing Jesus.
  • A special prayer for those that have lost loved ones, even if they are not “Lost”, they still have a hole that is empty at this time.

Prayers for Finance

  • Prayers for those that are struggling, that need some assistance in dealing with their finances.  It is a humbling experience to know that you are not managing your money wisely and that often, Pride gets in the way of asking for help from whomever, whether it be your bank, your spouse, your family, whomever.

Praises!

  • Praises to God for Stefan, who has been at Edenton Street for 8 years now!
  • Praises to God for Stephanie and Shane and Lindsey!
  • Praises to God for Leslie and Matt and Kennedy!
  • Praises to God for Mom and Dad!
  • Praises to God for Brett and Tara!
  • Praises to God for Robin and Jim!
  • Praises to God for our celebration of our 15th Anniversary!
  • Praises to God for Sophie!
  • Lastly, Praises to God for Jesus, and His ultimate sacrifice for us.

Lord, please be with us this week, as we think of those that we have listed here today.  Please be with them and help them as only You can, and grant them Your Peace in their lives, so that they wouldn’t worry, but would be filled with the Peace that only You can give, the Peace that says that it’s going to be okay, that You are with us.  Please impart on them a spirit of confession, that they would confess to You the sins that they have in their lives, and that they would ask for Your forgiveness and that they would turn their lives over to You.  Now, please be with us as we pray the prayer that Jesus taught us to pray:

Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done,
On earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory forever and ever. Amen.

Have a safe week, everyone, and remember, add your prayer requests to our lists so we can pray for you as well!  Thank you for following us and praying with us so faithfully!
