Strength of God

Prayers for the Week – The Strength of God

Strength of God

My friends, thank you for joining me today for our Prayers for the Week post.  Today I was reminded of the power of Scripture.  During my Bible Study, our speaker referred to Philippians 4:13 as one verse that got him through a tough challenge.  I’m sure that most of you know this by heart, but here it is for you once again:

I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. ~ Philippians 4:13

The Strength of God is something that we all need to depend on.  For so many of us, we try to do it all on our own, and inevitably we fail.  As I get older, and learn that this body is not as strong as it was when I was younger, I have learned that while my body may not be strong, my Faith is, and I am learning to rely on God more each day.  When I am weak, I call on the strength of God to lift me up.  When I get bad news, the strength of God is there to support me.  Whenever something happens to someone I love, I have learned through the years that I can do all things — I can get through all things, even grief — by turning to God.  He will give me the strength I need to endure.  Now, please pray for and lift up our praises this week.  Thank you.

Prayer Requests & Praises…

  • Here is the latest update from my friend Amanda about her husband Daniel:
This will be a short update because it’s good news! We received Daniel’s PET results yesterday and they were clean. YAY! They saw nothing even start to light up and no masses that caused any concerns so the cancer is staying in the liver. Surgery is scheduled for 7/31. We have a preop appointment with the surgeon on 7/25 to learn more about the surgery and the risks and recovery. Because the tumor is covering so much of his liver it will be a long surgery increasing the risk of intraoperative hemorrhage. Post op the concern is liver failure because of the small amount of liver he will be left with. But God has given us a chance for a cure. We feel everyone’s prayers and God’s presence through all of this and know He will take care of us!
Please pray that the tumor shrinks, the cancer does not spread during these next few weeks, Daniel’s healthy liver continues to grow (more than it did in the previous 6 weeks!). Please pray for God to guide the clinicians treating Daniel before, during and after surgery and that he comes through with no complications. And if you feel like praying for a miracle, please pray that Daniel be cured of this wretched disease!
Thanks to all of you for your prayers, kind words, hats, calls, notes, and love and support during all of this! We could not do this without the fabulous support system we have in place!
  • We’ve also got a big praise to share too! My friend Bambi has this update to her medical condition. Here is what she wrote:
Whew! After 6 hours of scans, tests, and a meeting with my Dr. I am healthy and remain cancer free! My kidney is working perfectly! What a long day, now I’m starving!!!!
  • More praise as my cousin’s daughter Julia continues to improve! Here is what was written:
I am so thankful for all the prayers!! The infectious disease dr thinks Julia is doing good enough right now that we can try oral antibiotics, so hopefully we won’t ever need a picc line!! I’m on cloud nine with this news, please keep the prayers coming and I know she will bee 100% in no time!!Thank you everyone for your prayers!
  • On other medical fronts, though, the news is not as good. Please continue to pray for Jim, the father-in-law of my wife’s co-worker Dee. He has a brain tumor behind one of his eyes, and it has spread to his brain stem. Everyone is very concerned for him, so please pray healing prayers for him, as well as prayers for God’s Peace, Comfort, Strength, and Love to descend upon him and all of his family. The stress is causing short tempers at times, so please fervently pray for them. Thanks everyone for praying for this family.
  • I learned today of a family that is in need of your prayers. Their daughter was abused by a person they thought was a family friend, and she has had to go through a lot of counseling about this, as has her parents. Please pray for all of them, that God’s Peace, Comfort, Strength, Healing, and Love would descend upon all of them, and that she would know that she is loved, that it wasn’t her fault, and that she would be able to recover from this emotional and physical trauma. Thank you everyone, your prayers always mean the world to me and those that you are praying for.
  • Sometimes the words are hard to come by when you are praying. There’s a little girl named Katy who has had so many afflictions ravage her poor body that it’s been hard to put your mind around it all. Well, today we have a huge praise! She has been in a medically induced coma, and today we have this report:
    From Katy’s Mom:
Katy girl is in there! She opened her eyes… Squeezed the I love you code to daddy… Responded by moving her head no when asked if she was in pain. Huge! She is back to sleep now… Has lots of resting she needs to do.Please pray for this girl, for her family, for continued good news. Please pray.
  • Please pray for my friend Kuleen. She lost her Grandma this week, and while she knows that she is in Heaven, it is still hard for her. Here is what she wrote — her words say so much more than I ever could:
My last Grandma Lucille passed away today at age 94. Widowed from her first husband, she married my Mom’s dad. She was widowed again when my Grandpa died when I was only 5 years old. For the past 41 years she has been my Grandma by choice.I will remember her for scratching my back, playing the piano and singing, and always signing her cards with XX OO. I always thought she looked like the Grandma in the Family Circus cartoons. She was a very faithful woman, and had been ready to be with her God for a while. She passed quietly without illness or pain, and is now with her savior.

Please pray for Kuleen and her family as they learn what life is like without her. Please pray for their comfort and strength. Thank you.

My friends, I give thanks for you each and every day.  I don’t know if you know this, but I have received so many words of encouragement from people thank me for praying for them — and asking me to thank you for praying for them too — that I’ve lost count.  We have been doing our posts now for well over a year, and the response from all of you has been incredible.  Occasionally I receive a note asking why I’m asking people to pray for things on a Disney fan site, and occasionally I get people that tell me they aren’t going to follow us anymore because of this.  But that, my friends, is very few and far between — overwhelmingly, the response I get is thanks, thanks for listening, thanks for praying, thanks for sharing what is on their hearts, and thanks to all of you for taking the time to pray for them, a stranger, someone they don’t know, and yet, taking the time to lift them up.

My friends, it is my honor to put together this post every week, to facilitate it, and now, let’s give thanks to Him that stands head and shoulders above all of us.  Let’s pray the prayer that Jesus taught us to pray:

Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, thy will be do e,
On Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.

For thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory,
Forever and ever. Amen.

Prayers for the Week – Isaiah 41:10

Isaiah 41:10

Hello my friends, and thank you for stopping by today and joining in on our Prayers for the Week post.  This weekly post is our way to help you with the prayer requests and praises that you have, and I am glad that I am able to compile these for you.  Please take the time to read all the way through our post, as we have a lot of prayer requests for today.

I’ve been led to share with you a very powerful verse — one of my favorites, from the book of Isaiah in the Old Testament.

10fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. ~ Isaiah 41:10 (ESV)

My friends, there is a lot of fear going on in the world today.  Fear over what is going on with our children, fear over what is happening with the world, with our military in Iraq, with the turmoil between Israel and Hamas, and fear with what is going on with our jobs.  In all of this, I urge you to remember that we are not alone — that if we turn to God, He will help us out.  His help may not be the help we are looking for, but His plan for us is perfect, while our plan for ourselves is often flawed.  My friends, please read and pray for these requests, and remember, in our praying, God is with us.

Prayer Requests and Praises…

  • Good news from my friend Amanda about her husband Daniel’s condition. Here is what she writes:Another short update! Daniel is doing very well. If everything stays on track, he may be discharged sometime this week – so a few days earlier than anticipated. The liver is doing great and has thus far stayed out of the danger zone! The surgeon was able to get negative margins on the tumor so we think they got it all. I’ll send another update when we get the discharge papers unless something changes between now and then.
THANK YOU for all of your prayers! I’m feeling like I may have gotten my miracle you all helped me pray for! And I have no doubt all of us praying is what got it done! God is great!
  • Prayers for my friend Heather, whose husband Adam lost his father. Here is what she wrote:Adam’s Dad went to his Heavenly home early this morning peacefully at his home surrounded by family. Please continue to pray for the family. We will have a memorial service and we will post the info when it is planned. Thanks for all the prayers. He will be missed by many but we know that he is rejoicing with God and we will see him again. Please pray for God’s Peace, Comfort, Mercy, and Strength to descend upon them in their time of grief.
  • Ed has a prayer request for us to pray over. Here is what he wrote on FB:
I don’t think anyone here knows, but for the last year, my mother has been fighting cancer and my sister and I have been her caregivers. The last few days have been difficult, and today in agreement with Hospice we are just going to make her comfortable and let things run their course. I am asking for your support during this trying time for my family. Here is my reply to him:
Ed, I will definitely be praying for you and your mother and sister (all of your family, for that matter). I’ll pray for God’s Peace to descend upon you all, for God’s Comfort to take care of your Mom, for God’s Strength to see you all through this, and lastly, for God’s Love to remind you all of all the love that you share, and to remember the great memories you have. I will also include this with my prayer warriors too so they can lift you up also. Please pray for Ed and his family in their time of trial. Thank you!

    • Ed informed us that his Mom passed away this morning. Please continue to pray for Ed and his family, for their strength in the coming days, weeks, and months, as they learn the impact of what it is like not having their Mom there, and that God’s Peace and Comfort would blanket them in their time of sorrow.
      Thanks, everyone.
  • My good friend Brooke needs prayers. We don’t know the details, and we don’t need to know either, as God knows, so please lift her and her family up. Here is what she wrote on FB:
When it rains it pours. Very discouraged. Need love & prayers friends.
  • Please pray for my friend Amy’s cousin Brooke. Brooke has had a stroke, she’s 33 years old. Here is what Amy’s aunt wrote:My dear sweet friends I come to you with a heavy heart but lots of faith. Brooke is in a very bad way. She has had a stroke and a blood clot in a vein from her heart to her brain. There are several things they can do with major danger. I know God has his own plan of healing so I’m hanging in there for now. The part that’s damaged controls her waking up and vision. They say she might not ever wake up but I have to believe she will. Thank you for your prayers but don’t stop now we have a very long way to go. On a good note she has opened her eyes several times for just a second. I will be gone for a while to take care of her. Heather my other daughter will come on to up date you guys. Know that I love you all and thankful for your prayers. We really rely on all prayers. God bless you all. Please pray for her healing, for God’s Peace, Strength, and Comfort to descend upon all of them, and for the God to skillfully guide her doctors. Thanks, everyone.
  • Please continue your prayers for Katy, who has been featured on our prayer requests before. Also lift up her Mom, who is struggling at the moment. Here are the latest updates by way of my friend Kuleen:
Update on Katy from her Mom:
Katy is stable… But she definitely took a few steps back today. No one really knows what caused it… But her sats were really low she was very blue… Blood pressure was low. Ended up going back up on her vent to full support, back on the paralytic, back up to full sedation with both her morphine and versed so any headway we made was lost today. Thankfully she appears to be stable and hopefully has an uneventful night. From Katy’s Mom:
Afraid… When is enough enough? Katy’s kidneys are giving out again. I miss my girl.
    From Katy’s mom. Not good:
Katy is having a really tough day. Not sure how this is going to play out… Not sure how I am going to say goodbye to my baby girl. Running out of options.
  • Lastly, my friend Sheila reminds us of the prayers our animal friends need.  Here is what she wrote:We need to pray for your dog too! Animals also need prayers. I hope and pray Regan gets better soon.Thank you Sheila for your prayers.  Regan is much better.  He had to go in on this past Friday for a follow-up to his ultrasound, as well as a dental cleaning and some mole removals.  He is fine, but he really gets disoriented when he has had anesthesia.  One of the moles they sent off for checking, so we don’t know that result yet, but we’ll take prayers for a good outcome from that.  Thank you!
  • Just before I was going to close our post down for the night, my friend Brooke — who is listed above in our prayer requests, shared these words:Sometimes this world brings trouble I find so hard to bear. I know I could not make it without Jesus being there.
    It’s so encouraging to know,
How ever deep we’re in despair…
    Jesus never fails.

When she told me I could include them, she also posted a link to the song that those words are from.  I thought you all might enjoy to listen to the song as much as I did.  Enjoy!

My friends, like we always do, our prayers are only good if we pray for God’s Will to be done on our lives.  To me, the best way to do this is to pray the prayer that Jesus taught us to pray.  Please close with the Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, thy Will be done,
On earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.

Lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory.
Forever and ever. Amen.

Disney Magic

23 Days: Celebrate Disney Magic

Disney Magic

Disney Magic is found in seeing Mickey & Minnie riding Dumbo with special guests!

Disney Magic.  The stuff of legends, Disney Magic is, quite likely, the biggest reason why so many people come back to Walt Disney World and Disneyland each and every year.  It is found in so many different ways, that I thought the best way to share what it means to me is to show you with my photos.  I hope you enjoy!

Disney Magic

…can be found in the joy of the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party…

The joy on Sophie’s face is a site to see!

Disney Magic

…is having your picture taken with your cousin and Snow White!

The picture of Snow White was taken on September 30, 2011, the day before the 40th Birthday of Walt Disney World!

Disney Magic

…is being first in line to see Clarabelle Cow and Horace Horsecollar!

Disney Magic

…is the joy of seeing your favorite character, Donald Duck, and dancing with him!

Disney Magic

…is telling Princess Jasmine a secret, and being able to chat for 5 minutes with no one waiting to see her.

Disney Magic

…is celebrating your 7th birthday with your best friend.

Disney Magic

…is seeing your niece proposed to in front of her Castle by her Prince.

Disney Magic is the reason I have this blog, the reason I help families plan trips to Walt Disney World, and the reason why we love going to Walt Disney World and Disneyland so much.  For me, no two words have more meaning at Disney than that.  What do you think of it?  Let me know in the comments, and thanks!
