Who Wins the Poll?

As my friend Roe so creatively put it, she is a a fan of #TeamParks in our poll that we had last week — and she’s not the only one either!  The voting was sparse, as most of my polls are, but fun nonetheless — and with 61% of the vote, The Parks wins!  This is an open ended poll, so there is no closing date assigned, so if you wish to go vote in it, you can do so!  Just click on over and tell us what you like most about Disney!

Part of the reason for conducting this poll was to get an idea of what sorts of things you wanted to see us write about on the blog.  We’ve been around for over five years now, so we’ve written a lot of things — but we are always looking for input from you, our readers, on what you would like to see us dive into.  Hence, the poll.  So, here’s an open ended question, just like our poll — do you have something you would like to see us dig into in an upcoming blog post?  If so, there are several ways you can reach out to us!  You can leave us a comment here on this post; you can shoot us an email to mickey@mydreamsofdisney.com; you can comment or message us on our Facebook or Google+ pages; or you can shoot us a Tweet on Twitter.  So make yourself heard, let your voice be counted, tell us what you want to see explored in more detail, and we’ll get to work!  Thanks for joining us, and for those that voted, thanks for doing so!  Until next time, go out and make it a great Disney Day!

Prayers for the Week – Remembering Keith Fuller

Yesterday the family of Keith Fuller said goodbye to their dad, husband, brother, son, uncle, co-worker, and friend.  I’ve known Keith for over 20 years now, he was the site supervisor for UNC-TV’s Lumberton transmitter site, and he passed away on Saturday, November 1st.  Keith is shown in the photo above on October 31st, as we celebrated his 25 year service award at UNC-TV.  Keith’s passing teaches us many lessons, the first one being that life is very short, that you can be here one moment and gone the next.

Another lesson that I learned from Keith’s passing is that God has a plan for each of us.  None of us know why God’s plan for Keith ended so soon — God’s ways are not our ways, and we are unable to understand His ways.  One thing I know, though, is this — for all of the time that Keith was with us, he fulfilled the plan that God had for him.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Keith’s wife Sherry, his son Zach, his daughter Ashley, and all of their family and friends.  Please pray for God’s Peace, Comfort, and Strength to descend upon them in their time of grief.  Thank you everyone.

  • My friends, please pray for my friend and co-worker Keith Fuller, who suddenly passed away yesterday. Keith is a family man, survived by his wife and children, and by all of those that he touched in his life. UNC-TV will not be the same without him, so please pray for his family, his friends, and everyone else that knew and loved him.
    • My sister Robin had this to say:I am very sorry to hear this. I cannot imagine the shock, pain, and disbelief you all must feel. I know that God is close to the broken hearted so I have every confidence He will be with you during this time.
  • My friend Becca has a praise this morning! Here is what she wrote on Facebook:An update for all who prayed for my friend and her twins born at 26 weeks earlier this year. After 5 months both babies are able to go home. The little 1 lb 4 oz baby was discharged today at 8 lbs 5 oz. Thank you to all who prayed. So happy for you LauRae
  • My friend Early wrote this on Facebook. Please pray for her and her friends:My heart breaks in hearing of the passing of a friend and neighbor. Please pray for the family.
  • My friend Stephanie has a prayer request. Here is what she wrote on Facebook in response to my question “What is your Disney wish?”I’m still here! Good for you…your blog should always be your passion, not something you feel you have to do. Thanks for all your hard work! Right now, my Disney wish is for my engagement ring to be returned. We just got back from our trip, and I lost it in one of the restrooms in New Fantasyland. It’s my own fault for taking it off to begin with, but I was devastated! Hoping a little pixie dust helps it find it’s way home!Please pray for her ring to be returned safe and sound!
  • My friend Rebecca has lost a friend. Here is what she wrote on Facebook:
    My heart is heavy with grief upon hearing of the passing of a friend. Fly sweet angel.Please pray for Rebecca, for her Peace and Strength, and for that of the family of her friend as well. This has been a hard week for many of us, so think of all of those that have lost loved ones, and remember them in your prayers as well, please.
  • In the Praise department, give God praise for my friend Bettie! Her cat Eddie has been missing for weeks, but today he was found and returned home! Thank you God for answered prayers, and the safe return of Eddie to Bettie and her family!

My friends, with all the turmoil that the world is going through, I think it is extremely important to focus on the things that are most important, the things that give us joy.  Please remember to hug your kids, call your parents, tell your family that you love them, and remember, our time here on earth is finite, and every day is a day closer to our finish.  Treat each day as if it were the most important day, and remember, turn to God, believe in and trust Jesus, and you will spend eternity in Heaven after your time on earth is finished.  Now, please pray the prayer that Jesus taught us to pray:

Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed by thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done,
On earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory forever and ever.

Epcot to remove Fife and Drum Corps, others

Have you seen the Fife & Drum Corps perform?

I was surprised when I learned yesterday that Walt Disney World has announced plans to remove the popular shows Mo’Rockin’, Off Kilter, the World Showcase Players, and my favorite, Spirit of America Fife and Drum Corps effective the end of September.  From a personal opinion, I can see the closing of some of these performance groups, but the ones that I truly feel like should not have been closed are Off Kilter and the Fife & Drum Corps.  Part of me worries that they are doing this not so much for a specific reason, but rather because they feel like they need to do so in order that those people that only visit Disney once or twice will see something shiny and new instead of something that has been around for a while.

For me, and others like me that really enjoy Disney and go multiple times, the biggest draw for me is the chance to take my wife and child to the Disney I know and love from my childhood.  It’s not so much about riding Seven Dwarfs Mine Train — despite how incredibly cool that attraction is.  For me, it’s about walking with Cindy and Sophie, seeing a show or enjoy a ride, and remembering something from a prior visit that the attraction, show, parade, etc. triggered.  The best part of the Disney Magic for me is how we can be transported back in time to when we saw something for the first time.

When I read the news about the Fife & Drum Corps, immediately I remembered this story from the time we took Stephanie to Walt Disney World with us:

I remember that we were at World Showcase, and all of a sudden it started raining.  Since it was nearly lunchtime, and we were near the American Adventure Pavilion, we decided to eat lunch at the Liberty Inn counter service restaurant.  This restaurant is great because it serves good food and has a lot of seating to get in out of the elements.  Anyway, we were inside, eating our lunch, when all of a sudden the Spirit of America Fife & Drum Corps marched in, took up their positions, and started playing for us.  It was a moment where we just happened to be there, nothing was listed on the Times Guide, and Walt Disney World turned the Disney Magic up for us because of the rain (or so it seemed)!

Hearing about the end of the Fife & Drum Corps immediately took me back to that memory, and made me a little sad that I won’t experience it again…

I’ve got other stories for the other World Showcase Entertainments that are closing, but to me, the one that bites deep is the closing of the Spirit of  America Fife & Drum Corps.
