Prayers for the Week: Happy Mother’s Day

28Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 29“Many women have done excellently,
but you surpass them all.” ~ Proverbs 31:28-29 (ESV)

Happy Mother’s Day to all of our Moms out there!  Officially on the calendar, today is Mother’s Day — but in reality, every day should be Mother’s Day!  Today we give Praise and thanks to God for Mothers across the world, spanning this day and age and throughout eternity.

The Bible is filled with incredible Mothers — starting with Eve, continuing through Sarah, then Rebekah, Leah, Rachel, and on and on.  In all of my studies, the one thing I’ve learned is that none of us are perfect, the only perfect one is Jesus, of course, and Mother’s are no exception.  But one thing that is important to remember is that, despite the flaws, despite the frustrations of husbands, children, and life in general, despite all of that, Mother’s across the world still put their families first, and that continues on to this day.

On this Mother’s Day, I wish to leave you with a poem I read yesterday that I think you all will enjoy:

If life were without water, where would we be?
If life were without mothers,
There would be no you or me.
We all need to take hold, of how precious life really is,
and not take for granted the gift of love and the ability to give.
Thank you to God for creating us all
For giving us our mothers
So we can stand proud and tall.
Humans are no accident, no mistake or error
We sometimes live our lives in fear of this,
Even to the point of terror.
But when the truth is told, and recognised by all,
God does not create rubbish. He knew what he was doing when he created
me and you, but the best gift of all, is giving us loving, caring
Mothers who love us unconditionally through and through.
None of us are perfect, that includes ourselves and family.
Hold onto how precious we are and thank God for our mothers.

Now, please join me in praying the prayer that Jesus taught His Disciples to pray:

Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done,
On earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory forever and ever. Amen.

Prayers for the Week – It’s all about the Children

Hello everyone, and welcome to this week’s Prayers for the Week post.  This week, we are focusing on the children.  Jesus reminds us how we are to be in order to reach the Kingdom of God in the book of Luke:

15 Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. 16But Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. 17Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” ~ Luke 18:15-17 (ESV)

Obviously, we will not be born again as children — we are adults, and we will continue to be adults, or will grow up to be adults.  However, that doesn’t mean that our attitude on life has to be one that is molded and shaped by life.  The beauty of our children is when they explore with the childlike innocence that makes them as special as they are.  Our children, in that innocence, believe what we often think of as impossible, and that is what I believe that Jesus is speaking about here.  We have to believe with the same innocence that a child has in the wonder and majesty of Heaven, and not with the skepticism that so much of the world is filled with, or we will be hard pressed to see the glory of Heaven.

Now, please read our prayer requests and praises, and add your prayer requests and praises to our list.  Thank you all for your constant following and support of those in pain!

Prayer Requests and Praises…

  • I read about the story of Kimberly Henderson and her baby the other day.  Here is what she wrote on Facebook:
Two years ago today I was sitting in an abortion clinic thinking not having Vaida was best for me.
People remember dates for birthdays, and anniversaries. Well this date is forever burned in my brain. It’s a day that I will remember and I remember every single detail of that day. I think that is Gods way of showing me that HIS plan is and will always be greater and bigger than anything and everything I’ve ever known.
I sat in the abortion clinic for nearly 7 hours. I remember wearing a pink t shirt that was soaking wet from crying. Below is my post from that day and I remember crying the entire time I was writing it. I hope that by sharing this that it touches someone.
“Today I was at the abortion clinic. I had my mind made up. My boyfriend was cheating on me. I have small kids, what will people think?? I kept telling myself I’m all alone I need to do this. Sitting there.. I could hardly make out anyone or anything through the tears. People were eating fast food around me, laughing, texting. I on the other hand was a wreck. I kept my face down, my face was drenched in tears. I kept telling and giving myself every reason to go through with this even though I did not believe in it. I kept saying I’m on birth control this could not happen..I kept trying to justify it. But my heart was heavy. I felt like I was about to make a horrible horrible decision and God was giving me signs to not do it.. I woke up this morning, my daughter was sick I had to find a sitter, I got lost, my car broke down for about 15 mins and I got here late but they still got me in. I prayed God would stop and give me a sign, give me the strength to get up and walk out of here..
The lady called me to the desk. Last step before you go back. I fumbled through my wallet to find my drivers license and out fell a card a couple left on the table Saturday night when I was working… It had their church name on it.. On the back was a common verse…
“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
I knew God was speaking to me.
Two of my best friends called me just in time and said the most comforting things. “I will be there for you..There’s a reason God gave you that gift.”
I told the lady I changed my mind. As I was about to walk out, a young girl no older than probably 19 says to me..”Are you going to do it?” I told her I couldn’t.. She said..”I wish I could be brave like you..” I told her she was brave and she could do the same thing. She said she had to do it because of some serious circumstances.. As I turned around she said..”When you see your baby’s face for the first time you’re gonna be so glad you walked out of here today.”
Pouring tears I walked out and felt a huge weight off my shoulders. No matter what your circumstances are God doesn’t make mistakes and he is here for you.
This is my testimony. If you have any negative comments you can refrain from making them here. I will let it be known that I do not care what people think. Hence this post. My friends and family mean the world to me. And have my back 100%. Even if I have to do this by myself. I thank God everyday for them.
Most of all I remember the enormous amount of relief and strength I felt when I walked out those doors. No guilt. No shame. No regrets. I remember feeling that this all… This all has to mean something one day. My daughter Vaida Everly has a purpose. Her name means beautiful life. And lord she is just that.. A beautiful life. After a scary pregnancy, and after countless weak moments thinking I just could not do this by myself.. September 12 2013 I welcomed my beautiful Vaida Everly into this world with both my best friends by my side. I remember seeing her for the first time and bursting into tears. And engraved in my head were the words that girl told me before leaving the clinic that day. “When you see your baby’s face for the first time you are going to be so happy you walked out of here today..” She was beyond right. 6lbs 4oz of pure perfection and no matter what pain I felt physically and
emotionally… She gave me a feeling of joy that I can’t even explain. A kind of joy that if a war was going on outside I wouldn’t even know it. I am so in love.
My once tiny 6lb baby is now 18lbs. Full of life. Full of energy. Loves to laugh. Loves to smile.
And last but not least she is that beautiful baby girl I was singing to at midnight in the kitchen. The video that has touched millions of people all over the world. Singing to her in our kitchen for a memory keep sake is the reason our entire life is about to change. For the good. For the better. She was meant to be here.
    I’m so lucky.
  • Prayers please for my friend Bob and his wife Jen, and all of their family. Here is what Bob wrote on Facebook:Heaven has received a new angel…Jen’s grandmother passed away last night. We love you, Grammie Florida!Marylee Yates Taylor Godwin

  • My friend Natalie has a prayer request. Here is what she wrote on Facebook:My cousin and dearest friend in the world Tyra Williams is at the University of SC having her pancreas removed. She is undergoing an islet cell transplant as well. This is a very dangerous life threatening surgery. She will remain in the hospital over the next 2 weeks. Please lift up her name in prayer. She’s one of the strongest most caring people I know. Please pray for her Healing, Peace, Comfort, and Strength, and for that for all of her family and friends as well!
  • My friend Hiro has a prayer request. Here is what she wrote on Facebook:Request: Prayers please or please send positive vibes…
This past week I found out that one of my Karate students has leukaemia. He is only 10 years old. He has been a student at our Dojo since he was 4 years old. He is such a strong and enthusiastic student.
When the Doctor explained his condition to him, his mother said that one of the first things he asked is if he could still do Karate.
And when I talked to his aunt, she was telling me how happy he was when he found out my father was going to visit him in the hospital. He kept saying, “Master Kancho is coming to visit me!”
We were really touched that Karate means so much to him.
If you have a chance to pray for him it would really be appreciated.
(I know some friends are not religious so positive vibes will help too)
    Thank you.
Please pray healing prayers for him, and pray for his Peace, Comfort, and Strength, and that of his family and friends as well. Thank you!
  • My Dreams of Disney reader Kelli gave us a big praise — thank you Kelli!  Here are her words on Facebook:I am thankful to be able to share in prayer with other people who love God and love Disney.

My friends, this world is not easy.  The temptations are everywhere, the evil is out there, and we do not possess the strength to overcome that ourselves.  We can only hope to overcome by relying on Jesus, relying on God to see us through all the difficulties we encounter.  Please remember that, and pray with me the prayer that Jesus taught his Disciples to pray:

Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done,
On earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory forever and ever.

Prayers for the Week – Worship in Spirit and Truth!

Isaiah 25-8

Do you go to church?  Do you worship God in Spirit and in Truth?  Do you understand what this means?  Welcome to this week’s Prayers for the Week post.  This week, I’m sharing selected verses from Isaiah 25.  Let’s see if we can come together and learn or remember exactly what worshiping God in Spirit and in Truth is all about.

1O Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you; I will praise your name, for you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure. 2For you have made the city a heap, the fortified city a ruin; the foreigners’ palace is a city no more; it will never be rebuilt. 3Therefore strong peoples will glorify you; cities of ruthless nations will fear you. 4For you have been a stronghold to the poor, a stronghold to the needy in his distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat; for the breath of the ruthless is like a storm against a wall, 5like heat in a dry place. You subdue the noise of the foreigners; as heat by the shade of a cloud, so the song of the ruthless is put down. 6On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined. 7And he will swallow up on this mountain the covering that is cast over all peoples, the veil that is spread over all nations. 8He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken. 9It will be said on that day, “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the Lord; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.” ~ Isaiah 25:1-9 (ESV)

When we worship God, Jesus tells us in John 4:23-24 that “true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship Him.  God is spirit, and those that worship him must worship in spirit and truth.

What do you think this means?  From everything I’ve learned, I think that it means that we are not limited to a single place, such as a church, where we have to worship.  We are worshipping in spirit, and this means that we need to put our heart into it, for that is where the Holy Spirit resides in us.  To worship in truth, to me, is to make sure that we are properly armed with the knowledge of God that we have learned.  That means that we need to dive into the greatest Book — the Bible.  That is where the truth lives, and by reading it, we will learn a great deal about Jesus and we will learn why He is the way and the truth and the life.  More importantly, we will learn why no one reaches the Father except through Him.

This can be a confusing thing to learn; in fact, I’m not certain that I have learned it well enough yet.  However, if you have any questions, please talk to your Minister.  Ask him or her what it means to worship in spirit and truth, and then, after they have told you, see if it makes sense to you.  One of the biggest things to make sure of is the church that you attend.  If you attend a church where they are not preaching to true Word of God, then I urge you to think about finding another church.  A church that doesn’t read the Bible and worship God armed with the Word is not a church that worships in spirit and truth, in my opinion.

That’s all I’m going to say on the subject today, if you have any questions, please leave me a comment.  Now, please read and pray with us our Prayer Requests and Praises.

She was a huge part of our lives – full of love, understanding and always there for you no matter what. We will all miss you and love you forever Aunt Gilda. RIP – Give dad a big hug from me when you meet him again there in heaven.
  • My friend Jodi has sad news to pass along for prayers. Here is what she wrote:Oh my heart is completely broken! Adam’s Little League coach from last spring just lost his oldest daughter Hallie & her 5-month old baby Brayson yesterday. Their jeep had become stuck in the mud, and they were in the backseat, keeping warm when they were tragically poisoned by CO2 coming into the vehicle. Please pray for the Lewis family!
  • Please give praise to God for my cousin Barb — she is a new Grandmother!  Baby Blair was born the other day, and is a wonderful baby girl.  Mother and Father are doing well, so please give praise to God for His Miracle of life!
  • Today is our niece Jenna’s 21st birthday!  Happy Birthday Jenna!  Please give praise to God for Jenna, and pray for her life going forward that she continues to walk with the Lord in all she does!

Now, please pray with us the prayer that Jesus taught his Disciples to pray:

Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done,
On earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

Prayers for the Week – Simplify

Hello my friends, my brothers and sisters in Christ, and those that don’t know how incredible it is to know that you are loved by Jesus.  This is our weekly Prayers for the Week post, and this week, we are going to redirect our thoughts away from money, away from worry, away from the cares that the world hands us, and instead, we are going to simplify — we are going to look at ways that we can simplify our life, and focus our attention and energy on the one that Loves us, the one that died for us, the one that is our Savior, Jesus Christ.

In the book of Matthew, in the 6th chapter, and the 27th verse, Jesus asked us this question:

27And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? ~ Jesus Christ, Matthew 6:27 (ESV)

That, of course, is just one verse in a passage on anxiety that Jesus spoke of.  Here is the complete text from Matthew 6:25-34 (ESV)

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? 28And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. 34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

There is so much that we can choose to worry over, my friends.  Did you know that fear comes from the devil, the evil one?  It is Satan that would have you worry — he would turn your thoughts to thoughts of fear, to thoughts of anxiety, to thoughts of anything other than where our minds should be focused — on our Lord, Jesus Christ.  It’s all a way for Satan to take us off the playing field in the eternal war, the war between Jesus and Satan for our soul.  If you have given yourself over to Jesus to be your Lord and Savior, as I have, then the war is already one for you.  But, just because I know where I will end up after I die, that doesn’t mean that I should not work towards helping my brothers and sisters in the world become Brothers and Sisters in Christ.  That is why I write this weekly post.  I know that many of you are turned off by it, that you want me to focus on just Disney, and not to worry about these “supernatural” things.  Well, I’m sorry, but I can’t do that.  I feel led to write these each week, and I’ll continue to do so until I no longer feel that calling.

My friends, if you are unsure what to pray when you are worried, let me share one last thing with you.  It is a prayer that I found on — here is the image of that prayer.

If you worry, pray this prayer with your heart, your mind, your body, and your soul, and it will give you Peace.  Now, please pray with me our prayer requests and praises.

Prayer Requests and Praises…

  • My friend Maureen left us a comment.  Here is what she wrote: “Good Morning :) I want to thank you for posting my prayer requests and for your prayer support :) My Nanny had dementia in her later years and it was difficult to go through that with her – Prayers for patience and love go out to all going through that difficult season.”
  • My sister Robin also left a comment.  Here is what she wrote: “Excellent post again, as usual. I am very proud of you!”
  • Last week, Sophie started Confirmand classes at our church.  It is a huge deal for Cindy and I because our little baby — the same baby that was 4 pounds, 2 ounces and just 17 1/2″ long at birth, is now 13 1/2 years old, is taller than Cindy, and will be starting high school in the fall.  For all of you new parents, or parents of children younger than Sophie, I urge you to cherish these moments, because they are GONE in an instant.  Please pray with us and for us, as we see Sophie draw closer to God than either Cindy or I ever did when we were her age.  As we told Sophie, we never went through Confirmand classes because that was something that our churches didn’t participate in, so she is the first in our family that has done so.  Please pray that Sophie would be blessed beyond measure, and truly grasp what it means to Walk with the Lord.  Thank you everyone!

That’s all the prayer requests we have this week.  I urge you, if you are going through anything in your life, and would like for us to pray for you, please, please, please leave us a comment, or shoot me an email to  We believe in the power of prayer, and we don’t need to know all the details, so if you want to leave an anonymous prayer request, just tell us what you want us to pray for, and we’ll do that.  We don’t need to know the details because God already knows them.  Now, please pray with me the prayer that Jesus taught His Disciples to pray:

Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed by thy name.

Merry Christmas

Prayers for the Week – Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas

Hello everyone, and welcome to this week’s Prayers for the Week post!  Since this is the last Sunday before Christmas, let me stop and say Merry Christmas to all of you!  The Christmas season is my favorite time of the year — it feels like the world is full of promise, of hope, and it’s all because of the birth of one little child…

Our Scripture verse this week comes from the book of Isaiah, Chapter 9, verse 6:

6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ~ Isaiah 9:6 (ESV)

Christmas is a time of hope, a time of joy, a time for looking at all that we have been given.  For most of us, our blessings far outweigh our deficiencies, and I hope this is the case for you as well.  I don’t have much to write this week, mainly just a plea for you to take a moment, consider your life, and realize all of the things you have been given — all of the blessings you have received.  Now, please pray with me these prayer requests and praises, and once again, Merry Christmas!

Prayer Requests and Praises…

  • My friend Amanda has an update on her husband Daniel. Here is what she wrote:Merry Christmas! We had a lot of things happen in the past few weeks and needed to get an idea of direction before we could send an update. First, it looks like we are staying off the CPT-11 (irinotecan) indefinitely. Daniel’s liver enzymes came back into normal range after a few weeks off the CPT-11. His Alkaline Phosphatase is still high but is lower than it has been since it went up shortly after surgery. His platelets are still struggling to stay above the level to get chemo so we have had a delay and started round 6 last Wednesday. This round should have started last Monday but he has developed a spot of osteonecrosis of the jaw in his mouth. This is basically an area of trauma that has developed an infection and eaten at the gum so the bone is exposed. As horrible as that sounds, after a consult with an oral surgeon, they determined the infection hadn’t spread to the bone and we are treating with 2 types of antibiotics a total of 5 times a day for 30 days. We go back in a few weeks so they can check progress and determine if the antibiotics are working. We really need the antibiotics to work because as it spreads, the outcomes get worse.
Because of the osteonecrosis, they have also taken him off of Avastin indefinitely. This means that he is only receiving the 5FU chemo drug. Because we are down to only 1 drug, they are thinking he will need to extend his chemotherapy through February. Not what we were hoping for but we can find the silver lining! Because he is off the Avastin, we can look at getting the hernia repair done as early and mid-January. We meet with the surgeon to discuss the fluctuation in liver enzymes and hernia repair on Wednesday. He should also get a PET Scan sometime the next few weeks to make sure there are no new areas of cancer developing.
Specific prayers for the next few weeks are for the osteonecrosis to heal as or better than expected, any scans we have to come back with no issues or cancer, a clear plan for the hernia repair and for mental, physical and emotional strength to Daniel to help him weather this additional treatment.
Thank you all so much for walking on this journey with us! May you all have a blessed and happy Christmas and a safe holiday season! Please continue to pray boldly for Daniel, Amanda, and all of their family. Thank you!
  • Please pray for the family of my friend Dee — we’ve been praying for Jim, her father-in-law.  Sadly, Jim was called home.  Please pray for them all, for their strength, courage, Peace, and comfort, and please also give Praise to God for Jim’s life.  The service is today, so particularly be prayerful for them this day.
  • Please also pray for the family of my friend Carey.  Carey’s Dad passed away last week.  Please be with them during their time of sorrow, but also give praise to God for his life as well.
  • One of my ministers at Edenton Street left this on Facebook.  Please pray for all involved in this:
52 years old, alone and homeless, he started weeping there on the sidewalk when I asked if there’s anything I could pray for him this Christmas. He said, “I’d like to find my son and tell him I love him.” He spent years trying, to no avail. He was leaving town that day so after 50 minutes of talking I had him record what may be the most heartfelt 50 second message I’ve ever heard and told him I would try and get it to his son. I located his son today and ask for your prayers that I would be led by God in sharing this. His name is Michael.

Now, please pray the prayer that Jesus taught us to pray:

Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed by thy name.
