Deciphering the Magic Band Data

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a post titled “What is your Magic Band Report Card” — and in it, I posed a few questions to you to get an idea on what you, the Disney reader, fan, enthusiast, and supporter, thought of the whole My Magic+ system.  It is now time to go through and look at the data to see where your answers stacked up with the overall consensus.

I would like to thank all of you that joined in and answered the questions.  In all, we had 33 responses — which, for a survey I put together, is a pretty good turnout I think!

Survey Question #1:

Magic Band Question 1

As you can see by looking at the data, just over 51% love the new My Magic+ system.  However, we had an “other” option, and it was noted that if you are an On-Site Guest, it’s great — but for off-site Guests, it is limiting.  Keep in mind that for FastPass+ selections, on-site (on property) guests get to select them 60 days out, whereas off property guests can’t select them until they are 30 days out.  Depending on the season, that can be a big factor!

Survey Question #2:

Magic Band Question 2

In this question, I was wondering how many people used the app, or the website, or both for My Disney Experience.  Not surprisingly (at least in my mind), the overwhelming number of people use both the app and the website — over 72% of our 33 responses.  One nice thing that I like with the new system is the inclusion of Wi-Fi throughout the parks — that makes it a great way to get a FastPass+ selection changed quickly!

Survey Question #3:

Magic Band Question 3

In this question, we looked at the actual Magic Bands — I wanted to know what you thought of them.  Overwhelmingly, 78% of you either “like” or “love” the Magic Bands — 26 out of 33.  Did you think the numbers that like or love the Magic Bands would be higher?  Let me know in the comments, please, and thanks!

Survey Question #4:

Magic Band Question 4

As you can see, a lot of people like the FastPass+ selection process, but overwhelmingly, it seems that we want Disney to tweak the system.  We want to be able to make more FastPass+ selections; we want to be able to make selections for multiple parks — and for some of us, we don’t like having to plan so much.  Also, with the new system, it does seem like the standby lines are much longer now — we saw that this past summer, even for attractions such as Mickey’s PhilharMagic.

Reader Comments:

In addition to the survey, many of you were kind enough to leave some comments.  Here is what you wrote:

My friend Beth wrote about both the good and the bad with the system:

Very cool!  I liked your survey!  I loved my magic bands! Those little bracelets made my trip so much easier!  But was frustrated with My Disney Experience.  Scheduling fastpasses was a headache.  I liked your choices for what I’d change about FP- mixing up parks especially!

Theresa wrote from a planning perspective:

I am a planner by nature so the Magic Bands and Fast Pass + were (in my opinion) just added another magical element to our vacation. I was just mentioning to my husband that if we had added Memory Maker, I would have only needed to carry a little cash with us to the parks. I love accessing our room, meals, tickets and Fast Pass + reservations with the Magic Bands. The cash was for tips (which you could add to your room bill but I like to tip in cash). I feel these innovations just add more magic and ease to a Disney World trip (I hope they roll this out across all their parks and properties!)

Shane wrote about some of his experiences:

I love the the Magic Bands and the FastPass+ system. Stephanie and I went on our trip and we were able switch fast passes between rides if needed which is a nice feature and it can definitely be a relief not having to carry around a wallet and being able to use the magic band instead. This could be especially important during the summer and wanting to go on some of the water rides.

Ashley wrote about how much she loved it:

I loved our magic bands and i recommended to anyone who will listen.

Lin wrote that there is some improvement to be had for the actual Magic Band:

The only thing I don’t like about the Magic Bands is how hard they are. I wish they were more flexible, much like the Fitbit.

Mikaella wrote about how the system could be better:

I think they are ok.

Thank you all for taking the time to share your responses with me!  I think this sort of data is great for helping Disney improve on the system, and make enhancements later on down the road.  Wouldn’t it be great if some of these answers were implemented into the system?!

What is your Magic Band Report Card?

Walt Disney World has been using Magic Bands for a while now, and I felt it was time to start a discussion on how well you, the reader, park Guest, and Disney officianado, like (or dislike) the whole My Magic+ system.  Please take a few moments and answer some of these questions for me:

  1. What do you think of the My Magic+ system in general?
  2. Do you use the My Disney Experience section of the Disney website or the App, or neither?
  3. What do you think of the Magic Bands — like them, leave them, or something in between?
  4. Lastly, what do you think of the FastPass+ system?

Please take a moment and answer these questions via our survey — I’d love to see your answers, and also would like to hear your feedback, so feel free to leave comments, too!

Thank you for taking time to answer our poll questions!  Remember, I love to hear what you think of things, so please, feel free to leave comments to expand on the questions we have in our survey!  Thanks again, and go out and make it a great Disney Day!

Blogging over at A Disney Mom’s Thoughts!

WDW 9-111

Today, my friends, I’m joining my good friend Beth over at her site, as we talk about what it’s like to visit and stay at the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.  I was lucky enough to be able to do so a couple of years ago, and wrote my thoughts down for Beth to share with her readers!  In the post, you’ll see some of the following:

  • Pictures of the room we stayed in.
  • Pictures of the lobby.
  • Pictures of the exterior of the building.
  • Links over to the official Disney page.

Kids Corner Preview

{Editor’s Note: My daughter Sophie joins us today with a preview of an idea that’s been bouncing around for a while — the Kids Corner.  Here’s her preview, I hope you enjoy! ~ Mike}

Hey Kids! I’m assuming you haven’t seen the “Kid’s Corner” yet. So here’s the scoop. My name is Sophie. My Dad, Mike, runs the blog. He’s also a travel agent, so if your ‘rents want to plan a WDW trip, he’s the guy to call. ;)

My big, happy, Disney Family!!!

As for me, you can probably tell that I’m a kid too. So if you have any questions about Disney for me, I can probably answer them. Questions like:

  • “How many times have you been to Disney?” I can answer that one off the top of my head. The answer is: I have gone to Disney 12 times, the tradition started in 2005.
  • “How many hidden Mickeys are in Walt Disney World?” That one may take some research… by the way, the answer is: over 1,000 (I Googled it).

But, yes. Ask me any Question, and when you get your answer, just call me “Miss Disney-know-it-all.” Just kidding, don’t call me that. That, you might say is “part one” of my Kids Corner intro. And it is! So check back later.

2014 In Pictures!

Happy New Year, everyone!  On this, the last day of 2014, I am taking a moment to share with you some of my favorite memories from the year — in picture format!  If you like looking at Disney photos like I do, this post is absolutely for you!  Have a peek, and thanks!  As always, a big thank you goes out to all of you for stopping by, for reading, for sharing, for commenting, and for choosing My Dreams of Disney as one of your places to go for your Disney fix.  Now, here is our Year In Review.  I hope you enjoy!  All of the images you see below are configured so that if you click on the picture, it will open the post that the picture is from.

January saw us looking fondly at loved ones that we had recently lost — in our case, Cindy’s Uncle Bob. Suddenly, the question “Do you want to build a snowman?” took on more meaning…

In February, we had a post about our favorite Disney memories. In this case, we were looking at our favorite Disney memories from 2011!

In March, we started our 100 Days til Disney countdown – our look at 100 things we wanted to explore on our upcoming trip.

In April, I wrote one of my favorite Magical Blogorail posts — a comparison between New Orleans Square and Liberty Square, and which one I like best.

In May, one of the things we counted down on was ways that we can celebrate Disney Magic.

Festival of the Lion King

In June, Sophie wrote a post about a special Circle of Life video that her band class did near the end of school. Have a look, and enjoy!

Disney Music Monday

In July, we started a short lived series called #DisneyMusicMonday, with a look at the incredible Julie Andrews and the music of Mary Poppins.

Robin Williams

In August, we, along with the rest of the world, mourned the loss of Robin Williams, who was the Genie in Aladdin.

In September, we wrote about the ways that Disney can help us deal with grief for the Magical Blogorail.

In October, we hit a bit of a blogging rut — the words just wouldn’t come out of the keyboard! Despite that, we wrote about education at Liberty Square for the Magical Blogorail.

Happy Birthday Mickey

In November, we celebrated the birthday of our favorite Mouse couple — Mickey & Minnie!

We started off December by remembering Walt Disney, who was born on December 5th, 1901.

We continued the month by writing about 5 facts about the Pirates of the Caribbean that will impress your friends!

Lastly, we wrote about how Pixar short films (and Disney ones, too) are the best thing since sliced bread!

I hope that our year in Pictures has brought enjoyment to you, and a good reflection on some of the things that we have done this year.  It has been a full year, full of joy, fun, laughter, exciting Disney memories, and wonder, but there has also been sadness.  My prayer for each and every one of you is that this year is better now than it was when the year started, and that your 2015 is full of happiness, joy, Peace, wonder, prosperity, and love.  Please be safe if you are traveling, and remember, if you enjoy some adult beverages, please do not drink and drive.
