Dapper Dans

56 Days: Dapper Dans

Dapper Dans

Sophie with the Dapper Dans as they celebrate her Birthday!

Hello everyone, and welcome to #Day56 in our #DisneyWorldCountdown!  Today we are taking a look at one of the most unique facets of Disney that you can find — the group known as The Dapper Dans!  Sophie has grown up enjoying this incredible group — they have performed the Happy Birthday music for her on two separate occasions, and she has even had her picture made with her cousin Anna Jane with two of them!  So needless to say, they have played quite a role in Sophie’s enjoyment at the Magic Kingdom!

The Dapper Dans aren’t always decked out in their colorful costumes — sometimes we see them decked out in different costumes, like these:

Here they are decked out in the overalls!

But, by and large, we see them in their traditional colorful outfits that fits their stature as being “Dapper”!

In my opinion, the Dapper Dans are one of the best things to experience at Walt Disney World — and even Disneyland if you are fortunate enough to go during Dapper Dan Day!  But did you know that the Dapper Dans got their start as the Diaper Dans?  Check it out, this perfect video celebrating the Dapper Dans — or is it the Diaper Dans? — well whichever it is, here they are celebrating their #DisneySide!  Enjoy!

Thank you for stopping by today!  Do you make time to check out one of their impromptu shows when you see them?  What do you think of them?  Let me know in the comments, please, and thanks for stopping by!

Our Favorite Disney Memories 2011

One of our Photopass Photos from our trip in 2011!

Hello everyone, and welcome to the next installment in our favorite Disney Memories series, sorted by the year of our trip.  This week we are looking at Disney Memories 2011, that first trip we took under the umbrella of our recently purchased DVC membership, and to accompany us on that memorable trip were Cindy’s brother, his wife, their daughter, and her Grandma, along with my niece Stephanie.  It was a truly magical time in our Disney history, and I think you will see as I share the photos with you that the most memorable and magical of our moments were the ones that involved Sophie and her cousin Anna Jane.  Words can only express so much, so instead of talking your ear off, why not take a look at some of the photos from that trip.  Enjoy, everyone!

The great thing about this was that we found out that Mamma was from New Jersey, just like Sherry, and they lived only a few miles from one another! Cue up “it’s a small world” music, please!

Sophie: From Beautiful Baby to Birthday Girl

Sophie at one day old

The day that Sophie was born was one of the happiest in my life.  Such a small bundle, scarcely four pounds, just 17 1/2″ long, and born seven weeks early.  Cindy and I left the hospital after being in for five days, but the hardest thing we ever did was to have to leave our baby behind — Sophie didn’t come home until she was two weeks old.  Even as a premie, Sophie was a strong willed little girl.  She pushed off her breathing apparatus constantly her first night, until the doctor finally said, let’s see how she does without it.  She’s never needed oxygen since.

Over the years, as our love of traveling to Disney World has increased, one thing we have loved to do is take Sophie to Disney for her birthday.  So for our last trip, we decided that we would have one more surprise for Sophie and Anna Jane.  We decided, with Sophie turning 10 years old on Father’s Day, that it was time for Sophie and Anna Jane to experience the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.

On the day of our appointment, which was Sophie’s birthday, we were running a few minutes late, so it was decided that I would take the girls ahead since we didn’t have bags to get checked, and we made for the Castle to make our appointment.  It was then that I told Sophie and Anna Jane where we were going, and I’ll never forget Sophie’s reaction.  She said to me, “Daddy, thank you so much for my birthday surprise.  I’ll never forget it.”  She went on to tell me that at least twice more throughout the day.  So, our girl went from an itty bitty little thing, to our Disney Diva princess, as you can see below.  Thank you all for sharing in my little girl’s birthday!

So, in the space of an hour, my beautiful princess was transformed into a Disney Diva Princess!  While the price isn’t cheap, the benefit was something that will last a lifetime.  We won’t do this every year, certainly, but it was worth every penny, and we will do it again for special occasions.
