Sophie’s Favorite Disney Character Meals

Disney Dining Reviews

Hi guys! It’s me, Sophie, and today I’m discussing my favorite Disney character meals!!! (I have five so I’m making it into a countdown.)

5) Epcot’s AkershusIt’s a restaurant in the Norway Pavilion. The characters there are Disney Princesses, such as Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and Belle. By the way, did you hear that the Imagineers have taken out the ride in Norway? They’re going to replace it with a Frozen-themed ride. The Frozen ride had BETTER be at least twice as good. Or I’m going to be very disappointed in Disney.

4)The Beach Club’s Cape May Café. It was a long time ago, but I remember when we went to the Cape May Café for breakfast. It features Minnie, Goofy, and Donald. The food was delicious. Best cinnamon bun EVER! It was covered in icing, and warm. Just like the doughboy one’s we made at home, only bigger. Oh man, just typing about it’s making my mouth water. And I’m not kidding.

3)Magic Kingdom’s Crystal Palace. It’s nice to just walk into a giant Victorian-style green-house-like building. The Crystal Palace is home to the Winnie the Pooh characters. Every 15-20 minutes or so, they’ll host a parade. It’s not a sit-and-order restaurant. It’s more of a sit-and-wait-for-a-turn-to-go-to-the-buffet restaurant. That’s a mouth full. Try saying it five times fast.

My favorite Winnie the Pooh character!

2) Epcot’s Garden Grill Restaurant. The Garden Grill is probably, the best built restaurant in Disney, at least in my opinion. Name another restaurant that spins, allowing you to look at a jungle, desert, prairie and more. The Garden Grill is built on top of a ride known as Living With the Land. This ride goes through the hydroponic gardens, where they grow all the fruits and veggies that are used, cooked and eaten in the Garden Grill.

1) Contemporary’s Chef Mickey’sIf you ask me, there is no better place to eat breakfast than at Chef Mickey’s. The buffet includes original breakfasts in a disney style. Mickey-shaped waffles, disney brand jam and the cinnamon role shaped like a hidden Mickey. I personally think this is the best of all character restaurants!

Well, that’s all I’ve got for now — why not comment on what your favorite character dining is? Ta ta! :)

Will there be a Disney Bus Wait Times App?

You know, I think the jury is still out when it comes to the My Disney Experience website and app.  I think that a lot of people like it, a lot of people don’t, and I’d guess that it’s about 50/50 in terms of split.  Maybe not, but that’s my feeling.

From a techy perspective, I think the MDE concept is a great one, and I have enjoyed using it for our trips and for helping my clients with their trips.  It is the present and the future I believe, so I think that we need to embrace it and roll with it.

Rumors are surfacing, though, that their is in testing a new feature for the My Disney Experience app, one that may tip the scales considerably in Disney’s favor.  I’ve heard that Disney is in testing to see about incorporating a Disney bus wait times into the system!

I personally think that this is a great idea, and one that would really improve a lot of guests experiences in transporting themselves around the Walt Disney World Resort!  What do you think?  Great idea, one that you would utilize each trip, or one that you think is no big deal?  Please let me know in the comments, and also let me know what you think of My Disney Experience in general.  Thanks, and have a great day!

Disney Memories 2012

Our Disney Memories from 2012, here we are at Akershus!

Hello everyone, and welcome to back to our Disney Memories series.  For this post, we are taking a look at our Disney Memories 2012, that special trip that we took with Kerry, Neal, River, Izaiah, Monica, Madelyne-Lois, Shane, Kyle, and Stephanie.  The buildup for this trip was incredible to me, it felt like it would never get here!  For this trip, we stayed at Kidani Village, which is part of the Animal Kingdom Lodge, and had a great time!  It was the first trip for everyone except us, Stephanie, Shane, and Kyle, and we made sure we did some things that they would remember for the rest of their lives!  In the first picture, all of us (except Kyle, Shane and Stephanie, who ate separately from us) were posing with Belle for our picture before dinner at Akershus for Princess Storybook Dining.  This excellent restaurant is located in Norway in Epcot’s World Showcase, and is a favorite of mine.

In addition to Akershus, we ate at the Crystal Palace, Via Napolli, Cinderella’s Royal Table, the Garden Grill, and Chef Mickey’s.

Sophie had the Dapper Dan’s play Happy Birthday to her previously, and this time also!

Disney Memories 2012

This trip was special because Cindy and I had some time to see the parks by ourselves!

This picture of Cindy, Tinkerbell and myself is special because we were entering Epcot by the International Gateway and there she was with hardly no line!  It was a great surprise and some neat Disney Magic!

Disney Memories 2012

When we rode Star Tours, I actually WAS the rebel spy!

We rode Star Tours one night, and there wasn’t much line at all, but the seating worked out that most of our party was in the very back, and Cindy and I were in the row in front of them.  It was so funny when we got in and got going — this being the first time we had ridden it since the renovation, mind you — and I was selected as the Rebel Spy!  It was so funny!

Beast’s Rose at Kidani Village

The night before we were going to be checking out, Cindy and I went down to where the car was parked to take some things there so we wouldn’t have to mess with them in the morning.  When we came back, we stopped by the lobby, and this rose was right on the check-in counter.  It was so cool, Disney Magic was at it’s romantic best!

Disney Memories 2012

By far, though, my most lasting Disney Memory was of Stephanie and Shane.

Without a doubt, though, my all time favorite Disney Memory from that 2012 trip was this one — the night that Shane proposed to his girlfriend (and now wife) Stephanie in front of Cinderella Castle.  I knew it was going to happen, so I was asked to be there to take photos, and I was lucky to get this one amidst all the tears that were flowing.  They are such a wonderful loving couple, every time I see them and this picture it brings a smile to my face.  Today also just happens to be the birthday of Stephanie, so what better way to celebrate than by remembering this moment that is frozen in time for all eternity!

Thank you for stopping by to visit and relive our Disney Memories 2012!  What special Disney memories do you have?  Please let me know in the comments, and thank you for stopping by!  Now, please go out and make today a great Disney Day!

Our Favorite Disney Memories 2010

Stephanie, Snow White, and Sophie enjoy a picture at Akershus!

Stephanie, Snow White, and Sophie enjoy a picture at Akershus!

Hello everyone, and welcome to our Favorite Disney Memories 2010 edition!  So much happened in this trip in June 2010 for Sophie’s birthday that I almost don’t know where to start!  I’ll do my best, though, and I hope you enjoy my walk down memory lane.  At the end of the post, please share your favorite Disney memories in our comments section, and thanks!

The picture at the top was taken at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall for our Princess Storybook Dining character dinner!  I think the combination of my niece Stephanie, my daughter Sophie, and Snow White is a great combination!

This trip started with a big surprise for Sophie — she found out the night before we were leaving that Stephanie was coming with us!  We arranged for Stephanie to ring the doorbell when she got to our house, and I had Sophie answer it.  When she saw her cousin, after hugs and kisses and excitement, she whispered to me “Daddy, why is she here?”  It was a great moment, and one that we all will never forget!

One thing we did on this trip that we had never done before was spend an evening at the Boardwalk region of Disney!  It was a lot of fun, and we made a point to spend time there before we got all inundated at the parks, so we actually did this before we even checked in to our resort hotel!  We made plans to eat at the Captain’s Grille, which is a restaurant one of my friends used to work at, and then we spent the night just walking around the boardwalk, checking out the shopping, enjoying the street performers, and having a great night all around.

I enjoy this great picture of my niece and I from our visit to the Crystal Palace!

This trip was a lot of fun — we even got a great picture of my niece Stephanie and I from the Crystal Palace!  This trip had it all; great family memories, fantastic dining using the Disney Dining Plan, Sophie and Stephanie walking around the parks like they were sisters, and Cindy and I just taking it all in and enjoying every minute of it!

This trip was special in many other ways, also, including the fact that we purchased our DVC ownership on this trip!  That was such a big decision, but it was the right one, because since we bought our ownership interest, we have been to Walt Disney World with our close family, great friends, and we have stayed at Bay Lake Tower, Kidani Village, the Grand Californian Hotel, and this year, back to Bay Lake Tower!

Sophie received this pirate gear at Downtown Disney!

But, without a doubt, the biggest memory from our trip was celebrating Sophie’s 9th birthday.  She loves celebrating at Disney, and one day during that trip, we took the water taxi from Port Orleans French Quarter, our resort, to Downtown Disney.  When we were getting off the taxi, the captain wished Sophie a happy birthday, and then he had us hang on a minute, and he pulled out of his bag of tricks a Princess Pirate getup.  That little gesture absolutely made Sophie’s day, and she wore the bandana with pride, and also the eye patch and sword too!  Lastly, at Hollywood Studios, as we were finishing up our visit for the year, Sophie’s Happy Birthday button became worn out from water rides, heat, sweat, and you name it.  One of the Disney artists saw it, took Sophie’s button, wiped off the sharpie, and then proceeded to spend about 15 minutes decorating her name in the Disney font, and adding glitter, and puffy ink, and all that.  It was a great keepsake, and absolute proof to how incredible the Disney Cast Members truly are.

Thank you my friends for visiting today, and remember, I love hearing memories, so please send me your favorite memories by leaving them in the comments below!  Now, go out there and make today and everyday a great Disney Day!

Stephanie’s top 10 restaurants at Walt Disney World

My niece Stephanie has come with us to Walt Disney World for our last three trips, so I decided that I would poke her brain a bit and find out what her favorite restaurants were.  After trying to work out our schedules, and locking her in our living room (where she is visiting us this weekend) I got her to write her list.  So, without further ado, here is my niece Stephanie, and her review, which she calls…

“There’s a party in my tummy…so yummy, so yummy” :)

Almost a month later here I am finally doing what my uncle asked me to do, write this blog! My intention is to tell you all about my Top Ten favorite places to eat in Disney and in the process tell you why (after all, that is the part that counts!)  When he first asked me to write this I figured it would be easy, ha… that was a joke.  Everything that Disney World has to offer is all fantastic so it simply comes down to a personal opinion.  So, after putting a lot of thought into my ten choices, I finally came up with this list. Enjoy!

Stephanie’s Top Ten

1. Captain’s Grille
Two years ago I found myself sitting in this restaurant with my uncle, aunt and cousin.  Being the loving and generous family they are, I was given the opportunity to tag along on their trip.  As a way to show me what Disney really is, they wanted me to eat at the fancy schmancy places.  Given that fact, Captain’s Grille is my top choice because this is where my experience began… where my little girl dream of feeling the Disney wonder came true all because my aunt and uncle were willing to bring someone like me along with them.
This one is a no brainer…. Tigger is there!! Duh!
Again, another no brainer, PRINCESSES!  The food offered here is also fantastic.  You may be thinking that it won’t taste as good because it’s not American, but you will be pleasantly surprised as soon as you take your first bite.
WARNING: Make sure you are not wet prior to going inside because you WILL freeze (and you won’t be as pretty for your princess picture).
Also, if you are married/dating… beware because your prince may be admiring all the princesses instead of you, the true princess.
4. Main Street Bakery
Despite the occasional long line trying to get in, it is worth it if you love a GOOD cinnamon bun!
Everyone will love this place… Not only is the food served family style, but the actual restaurant rotates at a slow but noticeable speed… now that’s “totally wicked!”.
I highly recommend this place to eat for breakfast.  When we went, I remember waking up fairly early to make it here for the reservation.  For those of you that don’t know me, I love my sleep (especially since I was in college at the time, sleep is a college kid’s best friend) but this place got me motivated to get up.  Not only does a morning reservation give you motivation, it also starts your day off right because the Disney magic starts early.

I must admit, I really liked this place because of their entertainment.  While you are eating in a well decorated place, there are four men playing cowbells, something that you can’t see everyday at McDonald’s.
Now tell me, what American doesn’t like a place that serves good BBQ?  Not only do they offer BBQ but you and your family have the chance to dance with some of Disney’s characters!
9. Columbia Harbour House
In case this list is intimidating because I have mainly listed table service restaurants (places that might cost a little more ;)), I figured I’d throw in a counter service one.  If you are on the go and want a quick bite to eat, Columbia Harbour House would be my top pick.  I have eaten here more than once and each time have had great service and great food.

10. Plaza Ice Cream Parlor
Ice Cream! Ice Cream! Ice Cream! While watching the night parade and fireworks, Plaza Ice Cream Parlor makes for a tasty, cool-down, treat!
