Hello everyone, and welcome to this week’s Prayers for the Week post. Today, I would like to join everyone else in wishing my Mom — and all of our Mothers across the world — a very Happy Mother’s Day. When it comes to the Bible, there are so many verses that honor our Moms for what they mean to you and me, but to me, this passage speaks directly to the heart that my Mom possesses.
26She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. 27She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. 28Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 29“Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” 30Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. 31Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate. ~ Proverbs 31:26-31
As is often the case, today we take the time to praise our Moms for who they are: loving, caring, kind, and generous. However, far too often we end up praising them on one day, and, much like Jesus, ignoring them on the next day. Why do we humans tend to take advantage of those we love so much? Why do we appreciate them one day, and not the next? My friends, I truly don’t know why we do this — why I do this sometimes. The only answer I have is to remember your Mom in prayer each day, to not take anything for granted, and to remember that, as long as life might seem to you, it is gone in an instant, so make the most of each day. Talk to your Mom, tell her you love her, and do this often.
Now, please take the time to read and pray for our prayer requests and praises. This ministry is built upon your prayers, and I thank each and every one of you every day for the faith you show in lifting up the prayers of those you don’t even know to our Lord and Savior. Prayer Requests and Praises…
- My friend Lin asks for prayer requests. She is trying to figure out where God would lead her in her career, and doesn’t seem to be getting any direction at the moment. Here is what she wrote:I could use a lot of prayers right now. I’m really, really struggling with what I am doing as a career, and I feel very sure that it is NOT the right thing. The problem is, while I feel that God is making clear that he does not want me where I am, he is not making clear to me where he wants me to go. The very thought of trying to step out into something new is terrifying me because it is completely directionless. I feel I could take a leap of faith if I had a general idea of where that leap was aimed, but I don’t. A leap without even idea of a next step seems like the wrong move. I’m hoping/praying that God speaks to one of you in regards to me, and that someone can shed some light on what my purpose is. Thanks in advance.Please pray for her, and for God to speak to her heart in a way that she can determine where He would lead her. Thanks everyone!
- Last night I learned that Martin St. Louis’ Mom passed away suddenly from a heart attack at the young age of 63. St. Louis is one of the players for the New York Rangers hockey club, and growing up a Washington Capitals fan, I know how hard it is for the Caps when they play the Rangers. Despite that, my prayers go out to Martin St. Louis and his family in their grief. May God’s Peace, Comfort, Strength, and Love descend upon them in their time of trial, and may they know that their loved one is in Heaven right now, rooting on her Rangers as they play today in the playoffs.
- Today I give praise to all of the mothers out there — from my Mom pictured above, to my wife Cindy, who is Mommy to our daughter Sophie, and now our dog Regan. To my Grandmas, both of them, now in Heaven, to Cindy’s Mom, who is also in Heaven, I wish I could have met her. There are billions of Moms out there — chances are pretty good that most of you reading this are Moms, so if you are and you’re reading this, then I give thanks to God for you too.
- Today I give praise to my sister Robin, another Mom, but I don’t give praise just for her being a Mom — I give praise to God for the woman that He molded her into, a woman of faith, a woman of honor, a woman who loves her family, loves her Lord, and loves all of those that are less fortunate. A woman that God has led to be an educator after many years — a woman who teaches special needs children, but doesn’t just teach them; she loves them like they are her own kids. Thank you Robin for all you have grown into.
- Today I also give praise to my niece Leslie, who is celebrating her first Mother’s Day as her and Matt’s daughter develops in her belly. I love you Leslie — look to your Mom for guidance, and you won’t go wrong.
- I also give praise to my wonderful niece Stephanie — Stephanie, who graduated yesterday with her Masters of Education in School Counseling. Stephanie, we love you, and know that you are going to do great things for the kids that you counsel to in your new school!
My friends, thank you for continuing to pray for our prayer requests and praises. Your prayers have worked, and helped many people who were struggling and those that continue to struggle. The comment I get back time and time again is how much Peace those that you pray for feel knowing that you are praying for them. So I thank you for praying for all of us. Do you need any prayers lifted up for you? If you do, please let us know what they are so we can lift you up to the Lord. He will hear our prayers, and if you are afraid of giving all the details, you don’t need to — we don’t need to know all the facts. We know that God knows, so we’ll leave it up to Him and He will take care of it. Now, please pray with me the prayer that Jesus taught us to pray:
Our Father, who art in Heaven
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, thy Will be done,
On earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our Daily Bread,
And forgive us our Trespasses,
as we forgive those who Trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory,
Forever and ever. Amen.
