Hello my friends, and thank you for stopping by today and joining in on our Prayers for the Week post. This weekly post is our way to help you with the prayer requests and praises that you have, and I am glad that I am able to compile these for you. Please take the time to read all the way through our post, as we have a lot of prayer requests for today.
I’ve been led to share with you a very powerful verse — one of my favorites, from the book of Isaiah in the Old Testament.
10fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. ~ Isaiah 41:10 (ESV)
My friends, there is a lot of fear going on in the world today. Fear over what is going on with our children, fear over what is happening with the world, with our military in Iraq, with the turmoil between Israel and Hamas, and fear with what is going on with our jobs. In all of this, I urge you to remember that we are not alone — that if we turn to God, He will help us out. His help may not be the help we are looking for, but His plan for us is perfect, while our plan for ourselves is often flawed. My friends, please read and pray for these requests, and remember, in our praying, God is with us.
Prayer Requests and Praises…
- Good news from my friend Amanda about her husband Daniel’s condition. Here is what she writes:Another short update! Daniel is doing very well. If everything stays on track, he may be discharged sometime this week – so a few days earlier than anticipated. The liver is doing great and has thus far stayed out of the danger zone! The surgeon was able to get negative margins on the tumor so we think they got it all. I’ll send another update when we get the discharge papers unless something changes between now and then.
THANK YOU for all of your prayers! I’m feeling like I may have gotten my miracle you all helped me pray for! And I have no doubt all of us praying is what got it done! God is great! - Prayers for my friend Heather, whose husband Adam lost his father. Here is what she wrote:Adam’s Dad went to his Heavenly home early this morning peacefully at his home surrounded by family. Please continue to pray for the family. We will have a memorial service and we will post the info when it is planned. Thanks for all the prayers. He will be missed by many but we know that he is rejoicing with God and we will see him again. Please pray for God’s Peace, Comfort, Mercy, and Strength to descend upon them in their time of grief.
- Ed has a prayer request for us to pray over. Here is what he wrote on FB:
I don’t think anyone here knows, but for the last year, my mother has been fighting cancer and my sister and I have been her caregivers. The last few days have been difficult, and today in agreement with Hospice we are just going to make her comfortable and let things run their course. I am asking for your support during this trying time for my family. Here is my reply to him:
Ed, I will definitely be praying for you and your mother and sister (all of your family, for that matter). I’ll pray for God’s Peace to descend upon you all, for God’s Comfort to take care of your Mom, for God’s Strength to see you all through this, and lastly, for God’s Love to remind you all of all the love that you share, and to remember the great memories you have. I will also include this with my prayer warriors too so they can lift you up also. Please pray for Ed and his family in their time of trial. Thank you!- Ed informed us that his Mom passed away this morning. Please continue to pray for Ed and his family, for their strength in the coming days, weeks, and months, as they learn the impact of what it is like not having their Mom there, and that God’s Peace and Comfort would blanket them in their time of sorrow.
Thanks, everyone.

- My good friend Brooke needs prayers. We don’t know the details, and we don’t need to know either, as God knows, so please lift her and her family up. Here is what she wrote on FB:
When it rains it pours. Very discouraged. Need love & prayers friends.
- Please pray for my friend Amy’s cousin Brooke. Brooke has had a stroke, she’s 33 years old. Here is what Amy’s aunt wrote:My dear sweet friends I come to you with a heavy heart but lots of faith. Brooke is in a very bad way. She has had a stroke and a blood clot in a vein from her heart to her brain. There are several things they can do with major danger. I know God has his own plan of healing so I’m hanging in there for now. The part that’s damaged controls her waking up and vision. They say she might not ever wake up but I have to believe she will. Thank you for your prayers but don’t stop now we have a very long way to go. On a good note she has opened her eyes several times for just a second. I will be gone for a while to take care of her. Heather my other daughter will come on to up date you guys. Know that I love you all and thankful for your prayers. We really rely on all prayers. God bless you all. Please pray for her healing, for God’s Peace, Strength, and Comfort to descend upon all of them, and for the God to skillfully guide her doctors. Thanks, everyone.
- Please continue your prayers for Katy, who has been featured on our prayer requests before. Also lift up her Mom, who is struggling at the moment. Here are the latest updates by way of my friend Kuleen:
Update on Katy from her Mom:
Katy is stable… But she definitely took a few steps back today. No one really knows what caused it… But her sats were really low she was very blue… Blood pressure was low. Ended up going back up on her vent to full support, back on the paralytic, back up to full sedation with both her morphine and versed so any headway we made was lost today. Thankfully she appears to be stable and hopefully has an uneventful night. From Katy’s Mom:
Afraid… When is enough enough? Katy’s kidneys are giving out again. I miss my girl.
From Katy’s mom. Not good:
Katy is having a really tough day. Not sure how this is going to play out… Not sure how I am going to say goodbye to my baby girl. Running out of options. - Lastly, my friend Sheila reminds us of the prayers our animal friends need. Here is what she wrote:We need to pray for your dog too! Animals also need prayers. I hope and pray Regan gets better soon.Thank you Sheila for your prayers. Regan is much better. He had to go in on this past Friday for a follow-up to his ultrasound, as well as a dental cleaning and some mole removals. He is fine, but he really gets disoriented when he has had anesthesia. One of the moles they sent off for checking, so we don’t know that result yet, but we’ll take prayers for a good outcome from that. Thank you!
- Just before I was going to close our post down for the night, my friend Brooke — who is listed above in our prayer requests, shared these words:Sometimes this world brings trouble I find so hard to bear. I know I could not make it without Jesus being there.
It’s so encouraging to know,
How ever deep we’re in despair…
Jesus never fails.
When she told me I could include them, she also posted a link to the song that those words are from. I thought you all might enjoy to listen to the song as much as I did. Enjoy!
My friends, like we always do, our prayers are only good if we pray for God’s Will to be done on our lives. To me, the best way to do this is to pray the prayer that Jesus taught us to pray. Please close with the Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, thy Will be done,
On earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory.
Forever and ever. Amen.
Continued prayers for Katy. Here is the latest via my friend Kuleen:
Update from Katy’s Mom:
Katy had a quiet day… No big changes… Still peeing… Working towards weaning the vent and getting her extubated. Patrick came to visit today and did really well seeing her so sick. Mike and I are blessed with two amazing children. Patrick was so caring and asked appropriate questions. He wanted to know how everything worked.
Prayers for my friend Tara and her husband Scott. They recently lost their cat. Here is what she wrote on FB:
Scott and I had to say our final goodbyes to our sweet cat Forest on Friday. He was with me for 18 years (longer than most but not even close to long enough). I know many of you knew him so I decided to share the info here on Facebook or at least you know our completely ridiculous attachment (I know!) to our animals so this was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I am SO appreciative of all of you guys kind words and prayers to both of us. It was a horrible experience but just knowing he is now in peace makes it easier (well maybe one day it will :)). RIP my sweet Forest…you were the BEST kitty cat ever.
Please pray for their comfort moving on — our pets are part of our family too!
When it comes to Praises, sometimes the best praises are the ones that we associate with our Grandma. Here is a praise that my great friend Torri posted:
My grandmother doesn’t have much (really nothing at all). Today she received $10 in the mail from one of her friends. She hands me the money and with tears in her eyes, asks me to give it to a family in our church who is going through an excruciating time. She says, “I know it’s not much and I wish I had more, but it’s all I have”.
This is how she has lived her entire life. I wanna be just like her.
God Bless Torri’s Grandmother, and all of the Grandmothers out there. They are treasures that we should never forget.
Thanks for sharing Mike! Reminds me so much of the Widow in the Bible who didn’t have much, but she gave it all. Oh that we would all have such giving hearts!
My friend Lin has a prayer request. Here is what she wrote:
May I ask for a prayer? A family in the community I teach in has suffered a terrible tragedy. Parents Ryan and Elena were murdered in their home early yesterday morning. Their 16 year old son was arrested and charged, and all of this occurred while the remaining family members were apparently asleep. I knew this family, only in passing, but their daughter went on one of the theatre trips I organized and chaperoned to Walt Disney World. She was a sophomore then I believe and would have graduated this past June. Her parents were such sweet people. I simply cannot imagine what she and her remaining brother and sister are dealing with right now. Please pray for their strength and resolve as they do their best to cope with the situation. My heart just breaks.
Please pray with me:
Heavenly Father, the senseless brutality that this poor family has experienced – possibly from their own son — is beyond our ability to comprehend. Lord, at this point we pray for the children. We don’t know what will become of them, we don’t know if their parents were saved and are with you in Heaven, and we don’t know what will become of the one that committed the acts of violence, but here’s what we do know. We know that You are in control, and that, as horrific as this situation is, You are there to comfort the children. You are there to give them Your Peace. You are there to give them Your Strength. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, You are there to give them Your Love. Please help them, Lord. Please keep them safe from further harm, and Lord, bring into their lives the ones that will be there to help them in the days, weeks, months, and even years ahead. We ask all of these things in the healing name of Your Son Jesus, who lived and died for us on the cross. It is in His name we pray. Amen.
My friend Kuleen shares the latest update on Rockstar Katy:
LONG update on Katy:
Let’s start with the positives… Katy has been able to successful wean down on her vent settings… has tolerated significant weans in her sedation meds. These are all things that need to be done to move towards extubation… our hope was to extubate Katy and give her LVAD a chance to work at its full capacity and that alone would be enough to help her kidneys recover.Unfortunately Katy’s kidneys are failing fast…and the fear is that we no longer have the time to wait and see if the extubation plan will work.
Mike and I are having to make decisions that no parent should ever have to make. Katy is in a very tough spot and there is very little left that can be done for her. She really needs to turn the corner and turn it fast. We have to make sure that we give her the best chance possible to do that while still being very aware of her quality of life and making sure we are not prolonging the inevitable. Katy’s love of life, happiness and comfort is front and center as we make these horrible life and death decisions… all the while trying not to lose hope.
With all that said… tomorrow Katy wlll be headed to the cath lab to have an ASD made… basically putting a hole in her right heart to open communication between the right and left ventricles. The hope being that it will lower the pressures in her right ventricle. All sounds good in theory but it has never been done…not here not anywhere! It is basically a last ditch effort… that sounds like it will work in theory. It is a very precise procedure because they can’t make the hole too big or her 02 sats would be much too low due to too much oxygenated blood going through… and if it is too small the hole will close on its own. While they are in the cath lab they will place the dialysis catheter so that if need be they can get fluid off that way and filter toxins as needed. We hope that these maneuvers will give Katy’s kidneys the boost they need to recover and make it to extubation. There are just no other options to try. Everyone please keep praying for our little Rockstar. . .
Please pray for her fervently! My fear is that this may come to a big climax really soon, so please keep praying for her. Please pray with me:
Heavenly Father, we have seen so much death and loss this week. Please care for Katy, and if it is Your Will, please keep her from suffering the same fate as some others have. Lord, please show Your Miraculous Power by healing Katy, and lifting her up as an example of what loving Jesus can mean in your life. However, it is Your Will, not ours, that matters here. Lord, hear our prayer. It is in the name of Your Son Jesus that we pray with Thanksgiving. Amen.
I hate that any parent has to deal with this. My heart is heavy. I pray for the doctors, nurses, Katy, her friends and family.
Today we give Praise to God for the successful birth of Kennedy, the daughter of my niece Leslie and her husband Matt. Please pray for them, that there would be nothing keeping them from leaving the hospital in time, and that they would get the patience they need from God to see them through the good times and the bid times that raising a child will bring. Thank you everyone!
Yea for babies! I’ll be praying for all of your family, health, adjustments, sleep and peace! :)
Please pray for my friend Jodi and her friend and family. She learned some really bad news that has her in tears. Please pray for God’s Peace, Comfort, Strength, Mercy, and Love to descend upon Jodi and her friend and their family in their time of grief.
Thanks.
