Last week, my prayer post was about persecuted Christians around the world — and how they are closer than we realize sometimes. In the post, I wrote about the events that happened in our life, and for this week, I want to give you an update. First of all, though, I want to thank each and every one of you for lifting my family up in prayer. It meant a great deal to me, and it still does, and because of your prayers, I have no doubt that things worked out for the best because of them, and because of God’s hand in our lives. Answered Prayers are wonderful to experience, and I hope you have seen answered prayers in your life often!
So after the events unfolded on Friday, May 15th, my wife and I had decided that Sophie would not go to school on Monday until we went to have a conference with the counseling staff about what happened. The last thing we wanted was for their to be any hard feelings left over from the previous Friday, so Sophie didn’t go to school until I picked her up around 1 to take her to the meeting. When we got there, we learned several key things. The first was that the other girl’s mom realized just how far she had overreacted. Second, we learned that Sophie and this other student don’t have any classes together, and it was purely coincidental that they happened to be on the track that day together. Third, we knew that the only time they see one another is rarely at the carpool pickup location, and there is enough adult supervision there to prevent any problem from happening going forward.
Going into the meeting, I was nervous, and so was Sophie a little, but neither of us was actually scared of what might happen. We knew that God was on our side, and that, while the path for Sophie may not be known right then, it would be shown to us at the appropriate time. Inwardly, I also knew that if I could do anything about it, I wasn’t going to deny our daughter the opportunity that she earned because of the actions of some child.
So in the end, Sophie missed Monday at school, but no other days. We have put the episode behind us, and have moved on. End of Grade testing is this week, and each day is a day closer to the end of the school year. Thank you for praying for Sophie and all of us, and let’s give God the glory for the great things that He did for us this week — and will continue to do going forward! Now, please pray with me the prayer that Jesus taught His Disciples to pray:
Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done,
On earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory forever and ever. Amen.
