isaiah 53v5

Isaiah 53:5:

But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed.

My friends, the world is full of trouble, turmoil, and sorrow, and it seems like there was a whole heap of it piled up this week.  When I am troubled, I try to remember who my Lord and Savior is, just in case I’ve forgotten; His name is Jesus, and no greater price was ever paid for me than the price that He paid for me.  Never forget that Jesus Saves — if we call on Him to do so on our behalf!

Prayer Requests

Like I said, there is a lot of grief right now — and some of it resides in the heart of little Foley, Alabama, right now.  Let me tell you about a Shining Star named Meleney, and how, at the tender young age of 20, she is staring death right in the face.

  • Meleney was the student of my friend Amanda and her husband Carl; she went to the high school that they work at.  She is a wonderful person, and she is surrounded by wonderful people that love her and care deeply for her.  However, she is dying, stricken with a form of cancer called Ewing’s Sarcoma, and she is dealing with the thought of not being with us very much longer — perhaps even days.  I can’t really describe it as well as Amanda did, so I’m sharing her post from the other day; in it, there is a call to action, if you are able, to donate to the costs that this young girl and her family have had to endure.  Please read the post, donate if you can, but most of all, pray.  That is what we are here for.  Pray for Meleney, pray for her Peace, her Comfort, her Strength; pray that she KNOWS Jesus, and that He KNOWS her; pray for her salvation; pray for her family; but most of all, pray boldly for a cure, if it is God’s Will that this would happen.  Pray.
  • My niece Stephanie had surgery last week.  She has been struggling with some issues for too long now, and the procedure they did was the first step — and hopefully the biggest step — in getting her back to the healthy, vibrant, loving young lady that I know her to be.  She is a strong Christian, but I’m certain that she is ready for God to take this tribulation out of her life.  Please pray for her recovery, for her health, that it be turned for the better now, and that she would be able to heal quickly and be back to her old self in no time.  Thank you.
  • Yesterday was the 9th Anniversary of my Uncle Phil’s passing — and his ascension to Heaven.  The days speed quickly by, and it really doesn’t seem like it has been nine years — but to my cousins Beth, Anne, Cathy, and my Aunt Clare, I’m certain that it seems to them like the longest nine years of their lives.  They have learned how to continue on with out their Dad/Husband in their lives; but they also know that he is watching over them, and that they will see him again.  Still, each anniversary is a day that they don’t want to see coming, so please think of them, and pray for their comfort this weekend.  I miss my Uncle Phil — he immediately took to my wife Cindy, going out of his way to thank her for naming our little girl after his Mom — so thank you for thinking of us and praying for us.
  • Lord, there are many people who don’t have the courage or the voice to express their prayer requests — so please lift up their unspoken requests and deal with those also.  Lord, you know all, so you know the words to the prayers even when we can’t express them.  Hear their unspoken prayers, and grant us all the Peace that only YOU can provide.

  • Lord, throughout the turmoil that goes on, You are there for us if we but call on You.  It seems that it is easier for us to call on You when we are in trouble, but I praise you and give thanks for You each and every day, in the good days and the bad.  Lord, please help us to remember You during the days when there is no trouble — so that we may thank You for the good we have in our lives!
  • Lord, thank you also for all of my blessings; my family, Cindy, Sophie, my parents, sister, and everyone else.
  • Lord, thank you for the jobs that we have, and the ability we have to provide for our families.
  • Lord, thank you for my brothers and sisters in Christ, starting with the men from the Men’s Study, but certainly not excluding anyone else.
  • Lord, thank you for the freedom that we have because of the men and women of our armed forces, past and present, who give of themselves — and in some cases paid the ultimate price — so that we would be free.
  • Lord, thank you for my niece Stephanie, who is now an Army Wife, and her husband Shane, who continues to excel in his basic training and advanced infantry training.  Please see him safely home on time next month!

Lord, there are so many other things to thank you for, you know all that is in my heart, and I thank you for your Spirit that you gave to me to guide me on my journey!  May we all have a great week ahead, but not forget that you are the reason for our successes; and if we ignore you, we are the reason our week may not be as easy as it should be.  Thank you for hearing our prayers and praises, Lord!  It is in your name that we pray. Amen.

  1. Please pray for my brother in Christ Stuart. He is working through some issues, so please lift him up to The Lord that God would help him deal with whatever is affecting him. I don’t know the details and I don’t need to, God knows all and will take it from there. Thank you everyone!

  2. Please pray for my friend Jennifer’s little girl. Here is what she wrote on Facebook:

Hey, Mike. Brynn’s got another 8 hour video EEG and a sedated MRI coming up on the 13th and 16th. I’d love some prayers that she does well during them and that we can pinpoint some of the changes that have been happening with her.

Lord, please care for your child Brynn as she goes through these procedures. Keep her close; calm her nerves and the nerves of her family please. Give them the Peace that only you can provide, and guide her doctors skillfully so that she may get the healing she needs and deserves. It is in the name of your son Jesus that I pray with thanksgiving. Amen.

  3. Thank you so much for your “dreams of Disney” blog. I also love Disney, and everything about it!
But more than that, I want to thank you for the faith that you share with so many people. It is a blessing to hear, and an honor to share in sending up prayers for those that are in need.
Just wanted to encourage you and thank you for all you do!! It means so much to so many.
    God Bless

    • Thank you Abbie! It is a very small way that I can hopefully shine a light – Jesus’ Light – on what can be a very evil terrain, that is, the Internet. The more people we can get to pray, the better we all are, so don’t be shy: please share any prayer requests that you need US to pray over.

      Thanks, and God Bless You!

  4. My friend Karen has two prayer requests that she left me on Facebook. One is for her to get over her head cold, so please pray for her speedy recovery from that summer cold! Also, she has an unspoken prayer request that she would like for us to pray about. We certainly don’t know any details, but if you are a faithful reader of our prayer posts, then you know that God knows all the details. Please pray along with me:

“Lord, our Sister-in-Christ Karen needs our prayers for two matters. The first is to help her get over her head cold that she has right now. Lord, please heal her of the head cold quickly, so that she may be at her best to deal with whatever life throws her way. However, Lord, Karen also has an ‘unspoken prayer request’ — one that we certainly don’t know about, but one that You know all the details for. Lord, please help Karen out with her unspoken request if it is your will. Please give her the Peace, Comfort, and Strength to deal with whatever it is that is bothering her, and please remind her in Your Gentle manner that You are there for her, so that she would remember to bring all her troubles to You. While you are at it, Lord, please remind all of US that you are here for us too! Lord, we ask all of these things in the name of Your wonderful Son Jesus, with exceeding Thanksgiving this day and every day! Amen.”

Thank you, everyone, for your prayers!

  5. I am adding my prayers as well! No matter what Jesus is the one we can stand on and trust.

      God Bless,

  6. My cousin Valerie sent an email and needs some prayers for her daughter Lauren. Lauren is 6 years old and has been diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. Here is what Valerie wrote:

Hi Family – Sorry to blast this out there – but this distribution list looked fairly comprehensive. We have had our world turned upside down with our 6-year old Lauren being diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. She has had an unusually high number of respiratory ailments in her life so even though she passed her newborn screen for CF she has tested positive on the sweat test twice. We will be doing blood work to determine her specific mutation. CF is inherited from parents when a faulty gene comes from both parents. Steve and I will be doing the genetic screening as well to learn more. I welcome your prayers and wanted you to know that it is possible I received the faulty gene from my mom (or it could be my Dad and wouldn’t pertain to you all). I have read so many stories of people having respiratory/allergies/asthma/digestive issues all their life, but really it is Cystic Fibrosis and it was just missed by doctors. I sure hope this isn’t something you come across in your family, but I wanted you to know it is out there. Email me questions if you have them. Love, Valerie

Please pray for Lauren’s healing, comfort, strength, and that Jesus would guide her doctors in the treatment and care of her disease. Also please pray for all of the family, that they would have God’s Peace, comfort, and strength to see them through this. Thanks so much, it means a lot to me!

  7. I’ve also had a prayer request from an unknown person on our prayer request page. Here is what they wrote about their son Nate on Sunday, August 4th, 2013:

My son, Nate leaves for Afghanistan today. He is one of many in service to his country and prayers for their safety and for the emotional needs of their families while they are gone are so needed — and so appreciated. Thank you.

I left a reply, here is what I wrote to them:

We pray for our men and women in service to our country daily, but in addition to that, we will certainly pray for Nate. I’m sorry that I didn’t get a reply to you sooner, but know that our thoughts, and the thoughts of our nation, are with them. Thank you for your sacrifice, may God grant you the Peace to endure while he is in Afghanistan, and may God keep them all safe from harm. Please keep us updated as you can on how things are going. Thank you!
