“Thy Word is Lamp unto my feet, and a Light unto my path.” ~ Psalms 119:105
Such a simple verse, my friends, but full of power! In today’s Prayers for the Week I wanted to touch upon a problem I have — one that is quite easy to overcome, but one that I find myself failing to do so…I am not as well-read in the Bible as I ought to be!
Please pray for me about this, because I have seen time and time again the power of our prayers, and I have also seen many times how good the day goes when I do start my day in God’s Word, and how much trouble the day can be if I don’t. So, my friends, today I ask you this simple question: “How much time do you spend in God’s Word each day?” Is your Bible too often like mine — forgotten on a shelf instead of open in your lap, searching out God’s direction for us? If it is, how about we make a challenge together — to work with one another, making each other our accountability partners? If you would like to do this, shoot me an email to mickey@mydreamsofdisney.com, and I’ll email you what I read in my Bible, and you email me and tell me what you read. That way, together, we can keep each other focused in the Word, and over time, we’ll be more “Bible Literate” and better able to withstand the challenges of a fallen world!
Prayer Requests and Praises!
Prayers go out this week to my friend Jeff, who’s Mom lost her battle against Breast Cancer this week. Jeff and all his family know that she is in Heaven right now, but that doesn’t ease the pain any, so please lift them up in prayers for their comfort and strength in the days to come, but also give thanks and praise to God for Jeff’s Mom, and the witness that she was throughout her life. As Jeff wrote so eloquently:
Today Mom ended her battle with cancer and we celebrate the peace that she can now have in heaven. Mom lived by her motto of not just surviving but thriving. She has been an inspiration to so many and the best role model I have ever known. The family will have a visitation on Sunday evening from 6-8pm at Brown-Wynn Funeral home in Cary and the funeral will be at Colonial Baptist Church in Cary on Monday at 2p. We can all celebrate knowing that Moms faith in god kept her and all of us at peace as she passed. Donations are preferred to The Wolfpack Club, Susan G. Komen Foundation, Wake County Hospice, or your favorite charity in lieu of flowers.
Additionally, Sherry has a prayer request:
Please pray for my unsaved friend Kelly, she is searching and finally accepted my invitation to church on Sunday. So this is a praise & a prayer request. She loved my church and our praise and worship time. They gave her a Bible and she couldn’t believe it was free…..LOL. She has already signed up for our womens breakfast on Aug 6th and cannot wait to come back for another Sunday svc. Please pray that satan will be bound and unable to interfere as Kelly is open to hearing God’s word and is hungry for more!
Thank you and God Bless

My friend Bambi’s little girl was sick and had to be hospitalized this past week. It took a while, but her baby is feeling much better, and has been sent home now, where it appears like she is no worse for wear! So thank you Lord for hearing our prayers and healing your little angel on earth!
My good friend Lisa had need of our prayers during the week as her son had to have some surgery. She just let me know though that his surgery was a big success, so Praises to God for that, and he is recovering very well! Thank you Lord and all of you that were praying for him!
I also have a friend that is worried about their job — there is a contract dispute and their job is in jeopardy as a result. Please pray for them — because of the sensitive nature of this, I’m keeping some of the details silent at this time, but please pray for them, we all know that God knows what we need even when we don’t know how to put it into words, so I offer up this prayer for my friend and all of the others that we don’t know about:
Lord, the worry that we can experience over our job situations is sometimes very hard to deal with — but we also know that You are in control of the situation, and that You will take care of us for the best if we just ask it of You. We know that you have our best interests in mind, for you said in Jeremiah 29:11 — “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
As a result, while we are worried over our jobs, we know that if we turn to You it will be okay, and You will take care of it, whether that means keeping our existing job or finding a new one. Thank You Lord for taking care of this — please give me the strength and Peace to endure whatever it is I need to endure in this trial, but also allow this trial to draw me closer to Your Will, so that I might be a better Disciple of Christ for You. It is in Jesus’ name that I pray with Thanksgiving! Amen.
Lastly, my friend Beth has had a nephew who was fighting cancer and other ailments. I just heard that he is now officially cancer free! Praise God for that, and please keep praying for him that he would remain that way! Thanks everyone!
Please also pray for the youth of Edenton Street UMC, who left today to go to Haiti on a mission trip. Pray for their safety, and that the Lord would work through them this week so that they would be a shining example of the Love of Jesus.
Also, I have a head cold — please pray for me to get over it quickly as we leave on Tuesday to go out of town.
Thanks everyone!
God Bless You, Mike.
Thank you, Lisa! God has blessed me and my family in ways that I can’t even fathom — and despite all that happens, knowing that simple fact makes things so much better! God Bless You too, Lisa!
I love being a part of this ministry, and you are such an inspiration to me and countless others. I have nothing but praises this week, and thanks for all that God is doing in our lives each day. I will lift up all your requests, and know that “with God all things are possible.”
God bless you Mike! Thanks for sharing this each week! I will keep these folks in my thoughts and prayers.
