Minnie Mouse is Bosom Buddies w/Fannie Flagg

It was all just one big happy (dysfunctional) family on the Match Game during the 1970’s. Game shows were all the rage and many stars were eager to gain the exposer they could provide. One such star was the American actress, comedian and author, Fannie Flagg.

COOL FACT: Flagg wrote the original book and did the Academy-Nominated screenplay for the movie adaption of Fried Green Tomatoes.

I’ve seen her on the show dozens of times, but this time I noticed something a little different:

Match Game Set w/Stars

This game featured Gary Burghoff from M.A.S.H. (upper right) and of course, the man who would later host The Family Feud, Richard Dawson (lower center).

But take a look at Fannie Flagg in the anchor position (bottom right). She is sporting a Minnie Mouse sweater! I guess they must be bosom buddies.

She Got a Match!

At the beginning of the show, there was some discussion as to whether her sweater had Mickey or Minnie on it. But all agreed it was indeed Minnie.

You can watch vintage game shows like Match Game and the Family Feud on the Buzzer channel.

God's Acre

Prayers for the Week – God’s Acre

God's Acre

1In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. 3And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. 5God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. 6And God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” 7And God made the expanse and separated the waters that were under the expanse from the waters that were above the expanse. And it was so. 8And God called the expanse Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day. 9And God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so. 10God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good. 11And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth.” And it was so. 12The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 13And there was evening and there was morning, the third day. 14And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years, 15and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.” And it was so. 16And God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars. 17And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day. 20And God said, “Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens.” 21So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” 23And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day. 24And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds—livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so. 25And God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds and the livestock according to their kinds, and everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 26Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” 29And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. 30And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. 31And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. ~ Genesis 1 (ESV)

Brothers and Sisters, welcome to this week’s Prayers for the Week post.  Yesterday, my wife Cindy and I spent the day in Old Salem, which is a historic Moravian village located in Winston-Salem, NC.  If you are ever in the area, I highly recommend that you spend some time there.  Yesterday was an absolutely incredible day to visit.  Hardly a cloud in the sky, low humidity, low crowds, and light, gentle breezes.  Yesterday was definitely the day the Lord had made, and Cindy and I rejoiced in it.

As we approached the cemetery known as God’s Acre, and wandered through it’s picturesque views of row upon row of tombstones, it kind of dawned on me once again that if you sit down and think about it, all of the world — all of God’s Creation is truly God’s Acre.  That is why I felt led to remind us all of the opening words to our Bible as found in Genesis chapter 1.

There are those in our world that do not believe that God exists, and will argue that point until they are blue in the face.  To them I say, how can God not exist with such beauty in His Creation?  Others claim that God has forsaken us, that He has turned His back on us.  What I say to you is that I do not believe that God turns His back to us — He is waiting for us to turn to Him once again.

Fortunately, from where I stand, it seems like more Americans are turning to God these days.  It used to be you only heard about the negative things — and that is certainly still true.  But now we are also hearing more about Christians being persecuted, and it seems like more people are willing to share their faith than before.  What do you think?  Is this the case?  Please let me know in the comments below, but please also continue reading and praying for our prayer requests and praises.

Prayer Requests & Praises

  • Linda starts us off with her prayer request: On Tuesday, my extremely healthy (never sick a day in her life) younger sister was admitted to the CCU with a racing heart, dizziness, and really high blood pressure. (Her pressure has always been almost abnormally LOW).
They’ve done all sorts of tests, cardiac caths, MRI, etc. and can’t find a cause. She’s still having episodes, although not as bad as when she was originally admitted. Because they needed the room, they moved her last night from CCU to a telemetry bed where at least she is still being monitored.
Prayers would be so appreciated that the doctors might be able to find a cause they can either treat … or that whatever is going on might pass.
My mother, who is still dealing with the death of my father, has been so worried as well. So if you could also pray for peace and comfort for her, that too would be appreciated.
    Thank you.
  • My cousin Deb has a prayer request: Please pray for the chaos in our family to stop or for God’s grace to cover us and allow our test to be a testimony.
  • My cousin Barb (Deb’s sister) also has a prayer request: Please say a prayer for my husband, we get the results from his latest CT tomorrow to see if the chemo is still doing its job.
    • Please keep praying for Barb’s husband, the chemo is not working anymore and they are looking at other options now.
  • Leslie has a prayer request: Please pray for a friend of mine. Her husband is goimg through a rough patch dealing with his PTSD.
  • Lastly, huge praise for my cousin Beth on the birth of her baby!  Congratulations Beth!

Now, please pray with us the prayer that Jesus taught us to pray:

Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.

Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will be done
On Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those that trespass against us.

Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the Kingdom, and Power, and Glory
Forever and ever. Amen.

House Industries: A Type of Learning REVIEW

Once again The Henry Ford Museum has delivered a fun and entertaining exhibit, this time presented by House Industries. And who is House Industries, and what is the purpose of this exhibit?

Well, Inspiration is everywhere, especially when you are obsessively curious. The artists of House Industries have followed their curiosity to earn international acclaim for a diverse body of work that ranges from fonts and fashion to ceramics and space travel. What has been created here is a multisensory exhibition that will inform, teach and, most important, empower people of all ages to follow their interests and never stop learning from what they like.

House Industries is known throughout the world for its eclectic fonts and far-reaching creative exploits.

A Type of Learning beautifully celebrates House’s method of design-thinking and encourages guests to think about their own curiosity, leaving them with an intoxicating sense of endless possibility. Such as:

Crow T. Robot & Tom Servo (MST3K)

Snake River Canyon Jumpsuit

I thoroughly enjoyed this eclectic exhibit! I hope to revisit it often during its run from May 27th to September 4th, 2017.

COOL RATING: 5/5 STARS

Few of the cool nouns I review on this site get a full 5 stars but this is deserved exception for sure. Truly something for everyone!

Velo (French for ‘Bicycle’) is a House Industries font

Inspiration really can come from anywhere!

Prayers for the Week – Memorial Day

Memorial Day

9Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” ~ Joshua 1:9 (ESV)

My friends, on this Memorial Day weekend, we salute and honor all of those that have paid the ultimate price for the freedom that our country enjoys today.  On this weekend, there will be beach goers, there will be those that have a cookout in their backyard, there will be those that go to a ball game.  And there will be those that go to visit their family member who is one of the fallen that we salute today — them and their families, whose lives were changed forever.

Our Word today comes from the book of Joshua, a verse that I’ve used many times before, but seems really appropriate for today and this weekend.  God commands us to be strong, to be courageous.  God tells us not to be afraid, not to be dismayed, and to remember, He is with us wherever we might be.  Those words of encouragement are for all of us to hear this day.  This is the Word of God for us, the people of God.  Thanks be to God!

If you are the loved one of one of our fallen heroes on this Memorial Day, know that our thoughts and prayers go out to you this weekend and every day.  My family salutes your sacrifice, your courage, and your commitment to serve our country, and we give thanks to God for the ultimate sacrifice that your loved one gave for us.  Jesus said it best when He said:

13Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. ~ John 15:13 (ESV)

Brothers and Sisters, on this Memorial Day weekend, let’s remember those that aren’t able to celebrate with us, and remember them in whatever way is appropriate to you and gives them the honor and glory that they deserve.

Now, please continue reading as we go over our prayer requests and praises.

Prayer Requests & Praises

  • Jodi starts us off this week: Long story short, my son’s left foot has been swollen for 2-1/2 years following ant bites. Several doctors and tests have been unable to figure it out. Adam has an appointment with a vascular specialist this morning. Please pray if there’s something to be concerned about that it will be revealed, and if nothing, that we would be reassured it’s ok to let this go. Thanks!
    • Update from Jodi: We finally have a diagnosis! It is something that will probably never go away, but it is not life threatening or life altering and will be treated with a simple compression sock. They will do an ultrasound next week to confirm, but this doctor is confident in his assessment. Thanks for the prayers!
  • Please pray for my friend Peter, his mother passed away at the age of 91. Pray for their peace, comfort, and strength moving forward. Thank you!
  • Please pray for my friend Kip and his family.  Kip is very ill.
  • Please pray for all of the anonymous prayer requests — especially for those that need changed hearts like we talked about in last week’s prayer post.
  • Please pray for my businesses, that they both would take off to the point that my wife could stop working at a job where she is not appreciated.
  • Lastly, pray for the families of our servicemen and women, serving now and those that served before, and especially for those that have fallen heroes in their families.

Thank you for all of your prayers, now please join us in praying the prayer that Jesus taught us to pray:

Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.

Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will be done
On Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those that trespass against us.

Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the Kingdom, and Power, and Glory
Forever and ever. Amen.

Swiss Family Treehouse

Magic Kingdom Attraction Guide – Swiss Family Treehouse

Swiss Family Treehouse

Attraction Name: Swiss Family Treehouse
Attraction Type: Walk-Through
Height Requirements: None
Location: Adventureland
Hours of Operation: All Day
FastPass+: N/A

The Swiss Family Treehouse is actually one of my favorite attractions at the Magic Kingdom.  I know, it doesn’t have the glitz or glamour of something like Space Mountain or the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, but the 116 steps take you up six stories, and at the very top, provide very cool views of the entire park!

Unfortunately, this attraction is not accessible to those in a wheelchair or scooter, so that is a shame for those that want to see it but can’t because of physical limitations.  The attraction almost never has any sort of line, so take your time, relax on your journey, and imagine yourself living in such a way.

The attraction features all of the types of rooms you would expect in a house, including:

  • The Living Room
  • The Kitchen and Dining Room
  • The Crow’s Nest
  • Study/Library
  • Jungle Lookout

Finally, here are a couple of photos that show you some of the unique views you can experience on the attraction.  Thanks for stopping by, and happy climbing!
