Magical Blogorail: In Need of an Update!

Welcome to those of you joining me from Heidi’s Head and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the 3rd stop on our Magical Blogorail.

In this month’s loop, the writers of the Magical Blogorail Red line are bringing you our ideas on what attraction or show is in need of an update.  There are many things that I can think of that I would like to see updated, only because they are some of the rides I don’t like as much, but to me, the one attraction that does absolutely NOTHING for me is the Tomorrowland Speedway.
I know that I’ll likely be in the minority in this.  Tomorrowland Speedway is a safe, fun way for kids of all ages to be able to enjoy “driving” and get their feet wet at it at the Magic Kingdom.  But to me, the Tomorrowland Speedway is about the slowest, most boring ride in all of Walt Disney World, and on top of it, often the lines are astronomically long!

I don’t know what can realistically be done to improve the Tomorrowland Speedway.  It is an attraction that appeals to many generations of Walt Disney World travelers, for kids of all ages; my niece even enjoyed driving a car on the speedway, as you can see here!

Stephanie driving with no hands!
So help me out here, people.  Am I crazy for having these thoughts?  Should I have not admitted my “in need of an upgrade” attraction?  Please tell me what you think of the Tomorrowland Speedway.
Thank you
for joining me today. Your next stop on the Magical Blogorail Loop is A World View.

Here is the map of our Magical Blogorail should you happen to have to make a stop along the way and want to reboard:

About Mike Ellis

Mike has been a Disney fan since his first trip to the Magic Kingdom in 1979 when he was 11 years old. Since that first trip, he has seen parks open, lands close, and attractions come and go, but one thing remains the same, his love for Disney is as strong as ever.

His Disney adventures caused him to start My Dreams of Disney because he wanted to document for his family and friends all of the special Disney Memories he has enjoyed with his family, and since that first post in 2010, Mike's hobby has become his passion!

Now a Travel Consultant with Pixie Vacations for over nine years, Mike has helped many of his readers plan and have incredible Disney vacations of their own. Check us out on Facebook and Twitter. Agreed! It's obsolete “technology” and a huge waste of prime MK real estate.

I agree.  We always get stuck behind some slow person who either can't reach the pedals correctly or who is trying to drive perfect and not hit the middle rail.

I tend to agree. I rode the speedway just a couple of years ago, and I'm not sure even my 5-year old grandchildren would enjoy this ride in it's current form. I think there is some improvement that can be built in and still make it focused on young children as intended. It's just that the park has improved over time, but this one just sits there and makes noise.

My husband agrees with you 100%. Its about the only thing at Disney that he really doesn't really care for.

Tomorrowland Spedway refurb –  had to think about this one.  I still like that anyone can ride it so I guess I wouldn't speed it up or take it off a track (sorry guys).  One thing I think they could do is plus the track.  Make it more interactive.  Maybe have obstacles or a quest. Include Charachters along the way.  That's all I can come up wiht.

I agree it could definitely be livened up somewhat, that being said I don't have little ones anymore… Great post!!

To me, it's one of those rides that you can ride anywhere – so it doesn't draw me in like other attractions that are so “Disney”, you know?  In fact, it's on my 100 Days to Disney countdown – only because I know Ian will want to ride it (not me). LOL  So, yes, I agree with you!

I agree that it could use some updating, however it's still a fun ride for the kids.  Maybe they could update the cars and add some cool features to it…like a TV screen, radio.  Or add some photo opportunities like they do on Space Mountain.

I've always thought it was a cheap attraction. It just doesn't fit with the rest of the Magic Kingdom.  I don't think they should outright get rid of it, it needs to be re-imagined.  Since they're doing Radiator Springs in California Adventure, maybe they could produce a new, more reliable track with better cars.  It seems to me that they could make it a wild Herbee the Love Bug ride. I'm sure VW would sponsor something like that.
