The name Mary Blair is one that only the most ardent of Disney fans will know, in my opinion. In case you don’t know, Mary Blair was one of the great Disney artists, known for concept art for such classic Disney movies as Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Song of the South, and Cinderella. Today would have been Mary’s 100th Birthday.
Although many casual Disney fans may not know the name Mary Blair, they certainly know her work! Outside of those great films, Mary was also instrumental at Walt Disney World and Disneyland, providing her talents on the Disneyland “it’s a small world” attraction, the El Rio del Tiempo ride in the Mexico pavilion of Epcot’s World Showcase, and the Three Legged Goat mural inside of the Contemporary Resort (partial image seen below). I wish I had a better picture of it, but I don’t, so I’ll put this on the to-do list for next year!
In honor of Mary’s birthday, Google has designed the Google homepage image in her honor. I hope you enjoy it, and kudos to Google for doing so! Mary passed away on July 26, 1978, and was honored as a Disney Legend in 1991.
