This week we have been having a small series highlighting our Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners from each of the Walt Disney World parks, and today, as you can tell, we are focusing our efforts on Disney’s Hollywood Studios. If you missed any of the previous posts, you can see the Magic Kingdom selections here, the Epcot selections here, and the Animal Kingdom selections here. Tomorrow, we’ll finish this series out by looking at the Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners for the Walt Disney World Resorts, so make sure to come back! Now, on to the awards ceremony!
Gold Medal: Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith
It’s no secret that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith is one of my favorite roller coasters at Walt Disney World. Before this past trip in June, I would have put the coaster head and shoulders over almost any of the other roller coasters, but after some of the coaster rides I had during this past trip, I’m not so sure anymore! Still, when it comes to thrill rides at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith has it all. The only thing I wish it had that it doesn’t is a slightly longer ride time — at one minute, 22 seconds, the ride is incredibly quick, and over before you know it. Still, it earns my Gold Medal pick for Hollywood Studios!
Silver Medal: Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream
Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream is one of the most underrated attractions at any Disney park, not just Walt Disney World. I am disappointed to say that I don’t often spend as much time in this attraction as I ought to, partly because I’m always rushing towards some of the high thrill rides, but when I do visit, I am continually struck by the incredible genius that defines Walt Disney’s legacy. The cream of the crop on this attraction, in my opinion, is the movie at the end. The museum pieces are incredible as well, especially some of the older pieces from when Walt Disney was a young man.
If you have never been to this attraction, you are missing out on it. It is an incredible tribute to the man that had the vision to first create Disneyland, and then to carry that forward to include Walt Disney World.
Bronze Medal: I am the Rebel Spy on Star Tours!
During our last trip, several of us rode the new Star Tours ride. It was the first time that we had been on it since they refurbished it, so we were excited to see what it would be like. We went through the queue line fairly quickly, but not so quickly that we didn’t have time to see the set pieces, such as R2D2. Then, when we got our 3D glasses, and entered our shuttle craft, that was when the fun really started! All of a sudden, right before we were about to start on our adventure, we were stopped, and we were told that they were scanning us because they knew, they just knew, that there was a rebel spy on this ship! They started scanning us, and guess what? I was the Rebel Spy! It was so funny! I started laughing out loud, and the other people in my party did too. Mind you, here I was in one of my Hawaiian shirts, just having fun, and then all of a sudden, bam! You spy, you!
It’s amazing how one ride can turn an attraction into an instant classic, isn’t it! Just like that, Star Tours became one of my favorite rides at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
