A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a post titled “What is your Magic Band Report Card” — and in it, I posed a few questions to you to get an idea on what you, the Disney reader, fan, enthusiast, and supporter, thought of the whole My Magic+ system. It is now time to go through and look at the data to see where your answers stacked up with the overall consensus.
I would like to thank all of you that joined in and answered the questions. In all, we had 33 responses — which, for a survey I put together, is a pretty good turnout I think!
Survey Question #1:
As you can see by looking at the data, just over 51% love the new My Magic+ system. However, we had an “other” option, and it was noted that if you are an On-Site Guest, it’s great — but for off-site Guests, it is limiting. Keep in mind that for FastPass+ selections, on-site (on property) guests get to select them 60 days out, whereas off property guests can’t select them until they are 30 days out. Depending on the season, that can be a big factor!
Survey Question #2:
In this question, I was wondering how many people used the app, or the website, or both for My Disney Experience. Not surprisingly (at least in my mind), the overwhelming number of people use both the app and the website — over 72% of our 33 responses. One nice thing that I like with the new system is the inclusion of Wi-Fi throughout the parks — that makes it a great way to get a FastPass+ selection changed quickly!
Survey Question #3:
In this question, we looked at the actual Magic Bands — I wanted to know what you thought of them. Overwhelmingly, 78% of you either “like” or “love” the Magic Bands — 26 out of 33. Did you think the numbers that like or love the Magic Bands would be higher? Let me know in the comments, please, and thanks!
Survey Question #4:
As you can see, a lot of people like the FastPass+ selection process, but overwhelmingly, it seems that we want Disney to tweak the system. We want to be able to make more FastPass+ selections; we want to be able to make selections for multiple parks — and for some of us, we don’t like having to plan so much. Also, with the new system, it does seem like the standby lines are much longer now — we saw that this past summer, even for attractions such as Mickey’s PhilharMagic.
Reader Comments:
In addition to the survey, many of you were kind enough to leave some comments. Here is what you wrote:
My friend Beth wrote about both the good and the bad with the system:
Very cool! I liked your survey! I loved my magic bands! Those little bracelets made my trip so much easier! But was frustrated with My Disney Experience. Scheduling fastpasses was a headache. I liked your choices for what I’d change about FP- mixing up parks especially!
Theresa wrote from a planning perspective:
I am a planner by nature so the Magic Bands and Fast Pass + were (in my opinion) just added another magical element to our vacation. I was just mentioning to my husband that if we had added Memory Maker, I would have only needed to carry a little cash with us to the parks. I love accessing our room, meals, tickets and Fast Pass + reservations with the Magic Bands. The cash was for tips (which you could add to your room bill but I like to tip in cash). I feel these innovations just add more magic and ease to a Disney World trip (I hope they roll this out across all their parks and properties!)
Shane wrote about some of his experiences:
I love the the Magic Bands and the FastPass+ system. Stephanie and I went on our trip and we were able switch fast passes between rides if needed which is a nice feature and it can definitely be a relief not having to carry around a wallet and being able to use the magic band instead. This could be especially important during the summer and wanting to go on some of the water rides.
Ashley wrote about how much she loved it:
I loved our magic bands and i recommended mydisneyexperience.com to anyone who will listen.
Lin wrote that there is some improvement to be had for the actual Magic Band:
The only thing I don’t like about the Magic Bands is how hard they are. I wish they were more flexible, much like the Fitbit.
Mikaella wrote about how the system could be better:
I think they are ok.
Thank you all for taking the time to share your responses with me! I think this sort of data is great for helping Disney improve on the system, and make enhancements later on down the road. Wouldn’t it be great if some of these answers were implemented into the system?!
