Hello everyone, and welcome to day 97 in our #DisneyWorldCountdown series! Today we are taking a look at one of my favorite attractions at the Magic Kingdom — “it’s a small world”. This fun ride combines all the elements that make up a classic Disney attraction:
- Fun characters
- Music
- Timeless Message
“it’s a small world” has it all — starting with the incredibly fun characters. This attraction, which was first put on display at the 1964-65 New York Worlds Fair, contains over 300 audio-animatronic children, all in different outfits depicting their region of the world, dancing and spinning and frolicking to the music. The entire ride is a wonderful celebration of the unity that we all have, despite the differences in our appearance, language, and mannerisms.
When it comes to attraction songs, nothing is a polarizing as the music from the attraction. Written by the Sherman Brothers specifically at Walt Disney’s request, the song is definitely one that will stand out in your mind, both while you are on the ride, and sometimes for hours after! Here is one fan tribute to the song, set with photos of some classic Disney movies. Enjoy!
So, as I was saying, the music of “it’s a small world” is something that you either love or don’t — it almost never seems to have any other reaction than that. Where do you stand on that spectrum? Love it or leave it?
I was mentioning, the message of it’s a small world is one of it’s strongest points. In today’s increasingly violent and troubled world, I think that it’s absolutely imperative that we recognize that we as a people are not that different from one another. Perhaps, in doing so, we will realize that having a differing point of view doesn’t mean that we need to get angry at the other side for that point of view; perhaps, it will cause us to be the international community that we truly should be. Who knows? I sure don’t — but what I do know is this: I love riding on it’s a small world, and I can’t wait until the time when I ride it again.
