Eight Years of Dreams
September 8, 2010. Still reliving the memories that we had from the time that Cindy and I took Sophie and our niece Stephanie to Walt Disney World for Sophie’s 9th birthday, I made a decision. I decided that I would start a blog, a blog that would be my way of documenting the memories of past trips to Walt Disney World that I have taken with my family over the years. That blog would transform from a simple scrapbook and become My Dreams of Disney. Today is the 8th anniversary of the day I started the blog with my very first post. At first, that is exactly what the site was — an online repository of memories from trips to Disney when I was a kid, and then later as an adult with Cindy. I really enjoyed reliving the journey from eyes colored by the years of time. For example, I remember fondly the trip Cindy and I took where we ate our way through Disney. As a new Disney blogger, one of the things I began noticing was just how many Disney blogs there were. The one that stood out to me, though, was the website Chip & Co., so I reached out to the owner of the blog, also known as Chip. We talked, and I became a writer on his team of bloggers, and it was then that my Disney writing really took off. Over the years, I’ve seen a lot of changes at Walt Disney World, both good and bad. However, the biggest thing that I think Walt Disney World has going for it is the words from Walt himself, which he said regarding Disneyland:“Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world. It is something that will never be finished. Something that I can keep developing and adding to.“The changes, they come and they go. I never thought I would like the removal of Mickey’s Toontown Fair, but lo and behold, the Disney Imagineers created something even better in the Fantasyland Expansion. I thought the idea of putting Avatar into the Animal Kingdom was about the dumbest thing I’d ever heard, until I saw it in person last year. That, my friends, is why I’m not an Imagineer, just a lowly blogger! Still, eight years at anything is something to take pride in, and I do take pride in how My Dreams of Disney has grown through the years. These days, you don’t find me writing as much as I would like, but still, MDOD is a site that I load every day, without fail. It’s a reminder of all of the great memories I have of the trips I’ve taken to Walt Disney World (and beyond, even) with my family and friends, and it helps me look forward to the next trips I’m going to make to celebrate milestones. To all of my readers, thank you for stopping by over the years, for allowing me into your lives, whether it has been for planning a trip, or praying for your family, or even just to get your Disney fix for the day, thank you. Knowing that I’ve been able to help in some way makes the last eight years totally worth it. Here’s to the next eight years!
