Hello everyone, and welcome to Tiggerific Tuesday Trivia! Today I’m joined once again by Jodi from Magical Mouse Schoolhouse, Heidi from Heidi’s Head, and Jenn from Disney Babies Blog to give you the best in Disney trivia!

Today’s trivia is an anniversary — the anniversary of the opening of the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction at the Magic Kingdom!  Here is the information, courtesy of This Day in Disney History:

1971: Walt Disney World’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction (based on the 1954 Disney film) opens at the 14-day old Magic Kingdom. It features 12 thirty-eight passenger (39 including the operator) submarines in an 11.5 million gallon tank of water. A very close cousin to Disneyland’s Submarine Voyage which opened in 1959, the two rides share many of the same elements and animatronics.

It’s unfortunate that I don’t really have any memories of this attraction — but I did ride the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage ride over at Disneyland, and I’m thinking that the ride was pretty similar to what we experienced on that one.  Let me know in the comments what you thought of the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction, and thanks for stopping by!  Now, please take a look at the other entries for their trivia!

  1. I loved 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. I think because I have memories of it from our very first trip to Walt Disney World, back when I was a senior in high school. I’m not really sure why, but that ride just fascinated me. I was so disappointed when I finally got to take my own family back to WDW and I discovered that it was no longer there. At the time, Ashley met Ariel in her grotto, directly over where the ride had been. :(

  2. Those tickets bring back memories. My Grandpa had some of the “Tickets” you had to get for the rides when Disneyland first opened.

  3. I remember this ride fondly but vaguely. My childhood seems to be made of have recollected bits of Disney rides. The spookiness of feeling trapped 20,000 leagues underwater in a sub, the smell of the “fire” in Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride and the awe at how little I was and how old humanity in Spaceship Earth.

  4. Really loved this ride, though as I kid I really thought we were going deep into the ocean. It is similar to the Nemo Subs but more water, less animation, and missing the large diesel engine that was loud and provided good vibrations.

  5. I have vague memories of 20,000 Leagues as a kid and I believe I was able to ride it as a high schooler as well. I do not remember those tickets though.

  6. I remember this ride from when I was little. I personally was never a fan because I am claustrophobic but I know it’s a favorite memory for a lot of people. I know they have to keep moving forward, but it is always sad to lose pieces of the parks that were there since day 1.

  7. I remember this as well! I wasn’t a fan when I was little, but I sure do wish I could ride it again now!!

  8. Ah, the coveted “E Ticket”! I do remember 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea; it was fun and novel. (And a bit claustrophobic!) I recently read that they had a dickens of a time to keep the subs from leaking. Egads!!

  9. I wish they still had this ride in MK.. It brings back soooo many Wonderful memories of Disney Trips during my childhood with my Dad (may he RIP) the good ole days! Thanks for sharing this Mike! :)

  10. I love love love your page between all of these pages and posts it makes it easier for me to book a vacation!
